Abstract

This study is initiated by the use of lexicons that are closely associated with the cultural development of a community. Employing an ethnolinguistic perspective, this research aims to describe the lexicon of kitchen utensils used by the Malay community in Belaras Barat Village, Mandah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The data were analyzed using distributional and referential methods. The results indicate that the lexicon of kitchen utensils is realized in the form of both single words and phrases. From a semantic perspective, the lexicon encompasses utensils for processing and storing food. These lexical items convey not only literal meanings but also reflect local cultural values and traditional knowledge deeply rooted in the daily life of the community. Therefore, the lexicon of kitchen utensils functions as both a linguistic resource and a cultural representation of the Malay society in the research setting.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of ESG performance on financial distress with firm value as a mediating variable among non-financial companies included in the LQ45 Index during the 2021–2025 period. The study employs a quantitative research approach using panel data regression analysis. The sample consists of 16 non-financial companies selected through purposive sampling, resulting in 80 balanced panel observations. ESG performance is measured using ESG scores obtained from Refinitiv Eikon, financial distress is measured using the Ohlson O-Score model, and firm value is proxied by Tobin’s Q. The analysis includes the Common Effect Model (CEM) and mediation analysis using the Sobel test. The findings indicate that ESG performance does not significantly affect financial distress or firm value. In addition, firm value is unable to significantly influence financial distress and does not mediate the relationship between ESG performance and financial distress. Meanwhile, firm size negatively affects financial distress, whereas leverage positively affects financial distress. These findings suggest that ESG implementation among LQ45 companies has not yet been fully translated into stronger market valuation and improved financial resilience. This study contributes to the sustainable finance literature by providing empirical evidence regarding the limited role of ESG performance in reducing financial distress in emerging market contexts. The findings also provide practical implications for managers, investors, and policymakers in strengthening the effectiveness of sustainability practices and long-term corporate financial stability.

Abstract

This study investigates how the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) constructs its institutional image and legitimacy in disaster management through discourse. Using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework, the research explores textual, cognitive, and contextual dimensions of BAZNAS’s disaster response narratives. The study analyzes official publications, press releases, and media reports to reveal how language is strategically employed to shape public perception of BAZNAS as both a faith-based and professional humanitarian actor. The findings demonstrate that BAZNAS incorporates Syariah legitimacy (endorsed by the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwa No. 66/2022), technocratic legitimacy (achieved through ISO 9001:2015 certification), and political legitimacy (via endorsements from State officials). These layers of discourse position BAZNAS as a quasi-state institution bridging religious duty and bureaucratic professionalism. At the superstructural level, narratives emphasize rapid response, organizational efficiency, and structured governance, while micro-level analysis highlights rhetorical strategies such as quantification, metaphors of heroism, and digital transparency that reinforce credibility and public trust. This study concludes that BAZNAS’s discourse transforms the meaning of Zakat from a traditional act of charity into a modern instrument of disaster governance and social resilience. By linking faith-based values with managerial and state-endorsed frameworks, BAZNAS strengthens its role as a central actor in Indonesia’s philanthropic ecosystem. The research contributes to the understanding of Islamic philanthropy, discourse, and power relations in the context of humanitarian crises.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused widespread concern and apprehension among individuals globally, including those residing in Indonesia. This infectious disease primarily affects the respiratory system. This investigation uses psychopragmatic analysis to analyze various types of discourse that may contribute to the propagation of Covid-19 or coronavirus. Specifically, the study will focus on panic and anxiety speech, which are influenced by the speaker's psychological state. The theoretical framework employed in this research is based on Capano (2013). The utilized research methodology is founded on Sudaryanto's (2015) perspective, employing a distribution approach. The findings of this research indicate that a speaker's psychology can impact the development of Covid-19 in other speakers, as evidenced by the influence of panic and anxiety speech. This phenomenon arises from the experience of panic and anxiety, resulting in an excessive manifestation of fear and anxiety.
