Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the problem solving ability of class X students of Al-Azhar 10 Pontianak Islamic High School on chemical bonding material. The type of research is descriptive qualitative problem solving ability. The research subjects were X IPA 1 class students of Al - Azhar 10 Pontianak Islamic High School totaling 21 people. Data collection tools include test questions designed based on problem-solving and interview guidelines developed based on problem-solving—data collection techniques using measurement techniques and direct communication techniques, namely written tests and unstructured interviews. The results of the problem solving ability data analysis were calculated using a problem solving ability assessment instrument and were presented as a whole based on the problem solving criteria instrument. The results of the analysis obtained students' problem solving ability on chemical bonding material, namely indicators of understanding the problem 49% (sufficient), making a plan 56% (sufficient), implementing a plan 63% (good), and checking back 70% (good) with an average percentage of 60% (sufficient). So it can be concluded that students' problem solving skills on chemical bonding material have an adequate predicate.

Abstract

Misconception is an event of a wrong concept received by students after following a learning process, the concept received is not in accordance with existing scientific studies. This study aims to identify students' misconceptions on the colligative properties of the solution and the factors that cause misconceptions. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The instrument used is a four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test. This study involved 34 students of class XII MIA at MA Khulafaur Rasyidin Sungai Raya. The results showed that the level of misconceptions of students had an average percentage of 34% with a moderate misconception category, where a total of 65% students experienced misconceptions in the sub-topic of vapor pressure depression, 26,30% students experienced misconceptions in the sub-topic of freezing point depression,  33,30% students experienced misconceptions in the sub-topic of boiling point elevation, and  26% students experienced misconceptions in the sub-topic of osmotic pressure. Based on the results of the interview, the factors causing misconceptions in this study consist of internal and external factors. Internal factors come from students, that are students provide concept ideas spontaneously based on their understanding without being investigated first, students provide incorrect reasoning, students are confused in connecting one concept with another, lack of interest and ability of students in learning chemistry. External factors come from the context and teaching methods, where one of the learners' discussion partners has misconceptions, the teacher is more dominant in providing chemical explanations in mathematical form, and limited experiments. Those misconceptions can be reduced by presenting the topic in an interesting way, using an experiment, or using multiple representations approach.

Abstract

The use of ICT in education in the 21st century has facilitated educators to make changes in learning, so that learning becomes challenging and fun. This study aims to describe the perception of teachers regarding the use of information and communication technology in chemistry learning. For this purpose, a survey was conducted to collect data from 20 techers in Sintang and its surrounding areas. The method used is the descriptive method. The teachers’ persception questionnaire on ICT in chemistry learning was addopted from Teachers’ perception towards ICT in the teaching- learning process: Scale validty and reliability study were translated into Indonesian and modified to suit the conditions of the school. The results showed that the average perception of educators on the use of ICT in chemistry learning was 78,91 with a “Good” category, it is known that the use of ICT in chemistry learning is still not implemented for all educators

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are needed in solving problems because identitying problems requires an analytical thinking process based on clear data and reasons. The purpose of this study was to describe the critical thinking skills of chemistry education students class of 2020 in solving problems related to the mole concept. The type of research used in this study is descriptive quantitative. Subjects who participated voluntarily in this study were 38 people out of 49 chemistry education students class of 2020. Data collection techniques using measurement and direct communication. The research instrument used was adopted from the stoichiometry e-book developed by Rahmat Rasmawan in 2022 which has been validated by 10 validators with a score of 85 which means it is valid and can be used. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis. The results showed that critical thinking skills in the skilled category was 40%, while in the less and unskilled were 55% and 5% respectively. In each indicator, which are making assumptions is in the highly skilled criteria with 66%, making inductive thinking conclusions are in the skilled criteria with 84%, and interpreting information is in the unskilled criteria with 61%. The critical thinking skills of students in the 2020 chemistry education class are still in the unskilled category, this is due to the inhibiting factors, namely the online learning system and inappropriate learning methods

Abstract

This study seeks to describe the metacognitive awareness of prospective chemistry teacher students in learning. This study aims to describe the metacognitive awareness of chemistry education students in the basic ability to teach chemistry subject. This type of research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. This research questionnaire is a modified MAI instrument. The result of the validity test and reliability test of the instrument found that 50 of the 52 MAI instrument statements were valid (the reproducibility coefficient value was 0,90 and the scalability coefficient value was 0,79) and quite reliable (with a value of (0,458). The results of the research data analysis showed that the overall proportion of students’ metacognitive awareness was 82,825% in the good category. This indicates that students are aware of their own thinking and can distinguish the stages of elaboration input and output of their own thoughts.
