Abstract

Abstract

Posyandu is a village level of health service that plays a role in improving public health, especially maternal and child health. The existence of posyandu makes an easier access for the community to  basic health services without having to travel long distances. However, the implementation of posyandu still faces various challenges, especially in how low the level of community participation is. Community empowerment with “SIGAP (Sosialisasi Gerakan Aktif Posyandu)” and “Play Corner” programs aims to increase infant and toddler visits to Posyandu Mayang Wangi through cadre empowerment and community education. The methods used include problem awareness through Focus Group Discussion (FGD), socialization planning and implementation, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test. This socialization was carried out by posyandu cadres and public health faculty students as facilitators. The socialization provided information on the importance of visiting the posyandu and nutritional problems in toddlers, as well as a "play corner" to attract children. The enthusiasm of the participants in the discussion session and evaluation through pre-test and post-test showed an improvement in knowledge of the participants, which reflected the effectiveness of the socialization presented by the cadres. The provision of a "play corner" also improved the skills and creativity of cadres in creating educational game media from used goods. This activity succeeded in building community awareness and concern for the importance of posyandu, as well as successfully empowering cadres in raising community awareness of maternal and child health.

Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mood disorder occurring after childbirth, characterized by emotional dysregulation such as persistent sadness, anxiety, and fatigue that interfere with a mother’s ability to care for herself and her infant. In severe cases, PPD may develop into psychotic symptoms, including hallucinations and an increased risk of self-harm or harm to the baby. In Indonesia, the highest prevalence of postpartum depression is reported on Java Island (22%), followed by Sulawesi (20%), Sumatra (18%), Bali (17%), and Kalimantan (15%), with East Java showing the highest provincial rate (20%). This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal age and parity with postpartum depression symptoms. A quantitative cross-sectional analytical design was used with 40 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test. The results showed no significant relationship between maternal age and PPD symptoms (p = 0.631) or between parity and PPD symptoms (p = 0.859). Mothers aged 21–35 years showed a higher proportion of moderate to severe symptoms. Overall, maternal age and parity were not significantly associated with postpartum depression symptom (p > 0.05)

Abstract

Background: According to the Basic Health Research Survey (Riskesdas), the prevalence of depression in the population aged 15–24 years is 6.2%. Adolescents are prone to a variety of risky behaviors, such as drug abuse, unsafe sexual behaviors, and unhealthy diets. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze risky behaviors related to mental health determinants in high school students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in North Balikpapan, Samboja, and Sepaku Districts, which serve as buffer zones of the National Capital, particularly at SMAN 9 Balikpapan (n=248), SMAN 2 Samboja (n=110), and SMAN 3 Penajam Paser Utara (n=28), during October–November 2024. The dependent variables measured were health risk behaviors, and the independent variables were determinants of mental health. A multivariate analysis was performed using a binary logistic regression test. Results: Family mental health status was found to increase the likelihood of smoking behavior by 2.282 times (p=0.005). Meanwhile, psychological pressure on students increased the likelihood of excessive time spent staring at a gadget screen by 2.126 times (p=0.018). Additionally, family mental health status had a protective effect against low physical activity in students (p=0.010, OR=0.198). Conclusion: Psychological distress and family mental health significantly influence adolescent risk behaviors. Further research is needed to explore the physiological aspects of stress and the impact of family mental health on risky behaviors in adolescents.

Abstract

The phenomenon of illegal parking attendants and pak ogah in the public spaces of Majalengka Regency reflects complex economic and social problems. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause the rampant practice and examine its suitability with the principles of Islamic economics. The research used descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The results show that economic (unemployment and poverty), social (low education and permissive culture), and structural (weak regulations and lack of law enforcement) factors are the main causes. From an Islamic economic perspective, this practice contradicts the principles of justice, benefit and transparency of the contract. This study recommends solutions based on community empowerment through mosques and ZISWAF funds, strengthening integrated regulations, and sustainable Islamic economic education.

Abstract

Introduction: In accordance with Samarinda Mayor Regulation No. 51 of 2012, the Faculty of Public Health at Universitas Mulawarman (Unmul) has enforced a Smoke-Free Area (KTR) policy since 2016. However, this implementation remains largely restricted to health-related faculties, leaving other areas of the university without consistent tobacco control measures. The lack of continuous health promotion initiatives has contributed to persistent smoking habits among students across the wider campus. This study aims to compare the perceptions of students from health and non-health faculties regarding tobacco control and evaluate their views on the current implementation of the KTR policy. Methods: This research employed a quantitative, cross-sectional survey design. Data was collected online between March and April 2024 using the Global Health Professional Student Survey (GHPSS). Utilizing purposive sampling, the study gathered 215 respondents, consisting of 123 health students and 92 non-health students. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results reveal a statistically significant difference in perceptions regarding tobacco regulation (P-value = 0.0001). Students in non-health fields tended to have a negative attitude toward tobacco control (65.7%), whereas health students demonstrated a positive perspective (67.6%). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in perceived KTR implementation (P-value = 0.000); only 22% of health students reported observing smoking on campus, compared to 83.7% of non-health students. Notably, among non-health students, those with positive attitudes toward tobacco control showed strong support for the KTR policy (87.3%), with 15.2% favoring strict sanctions for policy violations. Conclusion: The findings underscore the urgent need to expand the KTR policy to all faculties at Universitas Mulawarman. It is critical to develop targeted advocacy and educational programs that address the specific needs of the entire academic community to ensure effective and comprehensive smoke-free campus implementation.

Abstract

Background. Based on the 2023 GSHS data, 7.1% of adolescents aged 13–17 in Indonesia have had sexual intercourse, of which 66.2% are male and 33.8% are female. Adolescent premarital sexual behaviour is influenced by internal and external factors. Differences in social determinants may lead to behavioural variations between groups within a population. Aim. To identify differences in peer influence, parental roles, and mass media (as social environmental factors), as well as premarital sexual behaviour among urban dan rural high school students in Samarinda Method. This comparative cross-sectional study involved 274 respondents, consisting of 206 respondents from three urban high schools and 68 from one rural high school. They were selected using simple random sampling. Data were analysed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the independent t-test (parental role). Result. A significant difference was found in peer influence (0.004) between urban and rural high school students, while no significant differences were found in parental role (0.864), mass media influence (0.713), and premarital sexual behavior (0.862) between urban and rural high school students in Samarinda. Researchers recommend the development of health education involving peer educators in schools and adolescent parenting education, especially in rural areas. Conclusion. The mean rank of the peer influence variable score is higher among high school students in rural areas than in urban areas in Samarinda.
