Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa strategi mengajar dengan mengamati tantangan dan faktor keberhasilan yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam mempromosikan kemampuan berpikir kritis untuk siswa EFL. Penelitian ditulis dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Guru bahasa Inggris di sebuah sekolah menengah atas di Kecamatan Tabanan merupakan subjek dari penelitian ini. Observasi dilaksanakan berdasarkan perekaman video, ceklist, dan metode interview. Kemudian, data yang dikumpulkan telah melalui observasi dan interview mendalam terhadap Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) dalam satu semester serta pengamatan proses belajar mengajar dalam kelas. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga tipe strategi mengajar yang digunakan guru untuk mempromosikan kemampuan berpikir kritis dalam satu semester, yaitu strategi kolaboratif atau kooperatif (54%), penggunaan pertanyaan (25%), dan studi kasus (21%). Hasil interview terhadap guru menunjukkan bahwa ada dua tantangan yang dihadapi dalam mempromosikan kemampuan berpikir kritis, yaitu keragaman tingkat berpikir siswa dan kecenderungan siswa tidak terlibat untuk belajar. Guru diharapkan menggunakan empat strategi untuk mempromosikan kemampuan berpikir kritis yang lebih efektif kepada siswa, yaitu strategi kolaboratif atau kooperatif, penggunaan pertanyaan, studi kasus dan metode socratic. Pemberian instruksi yang beragam digunakan untuk menghadapi keragaman tingkat berpikir siswa dan kecenderungan siswa tidak terlibat untuk belajar.Kata Kunci : kemampuan berpikir kritis, strategi mengajar, tantangan, faktor keberhasilan This study aimed at analyzing teaching strategies while examining the enabling and challenging factors in promoting critical thinking skill for EFL students. This study is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this study is EFL teachers in a public school of Tabanan Sub-District. The instruments used in this study namely video recorder, observation sheets, and interview guides. The data of this study were collected based on in-depth observations and interviews based on document analysis and a direct observation. The observation results of this study show that there are three types of teaching strategies used by teachers in one semester. They are collaborative or cooperative strategy (54%), use of question strategy (25%), and case study strategy (21%). The interview results of this study show two enabling and challenging factors to promote critical thinking. They are heterogeneous students and disengaged students. Teachers are suggested to employ four teaching strategies to promote critical thinking skill effectively, namely collaborative or cooperative strategy, use of question strategy, case study strategy, and socratic questioning strategy. While, a differentiated instruction is suggested for teacher to cope with disengaged students.keyword : critical thinking, teaching strategy, enabling and challenging factors

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) mendeskripsikan penerapan discovery learning dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja, 2) untuk menemukan masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam penerapan discovery learning, 3) untuk menemukan solusi yang yang diberikan oleh guru dalam penerapan discovery learning selama proses belajar mengajar siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Instrument yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah peneliti, kamera video, lembar observasi, pedoman wawancara. Data dikumpulkan dengan merekam penerapan discovery learning model selama proses belajar mengajar dan mentranskip data yang sudah dikumpulkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam proses belajar mengajar, guru belum sepenuhnya menerapkan discovery learning model. Ini sejalan dengan persepsi guru. Guru belum sepenuhnya paham tentang discovery learning, oleh sebab itu guru mengalami kesulitan dalam menerapkan discovery learning. Selain itu, discovery learning sulit diterapkan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Guru juga mempunyai masalah dalam menentukan materi apa yang sesuai dengan discovery learning, terbatasnya waktu dan fasilitas yang mendukung proses belajar. Untuk mengatasi masalah dalam menentukan materi yang sesuai dengan discovery learning, guru akan mendiskusikan materi itu dengan guru yang lain. Sedangkan, untuk menimimalkan keterbatasan waktu, guru tidak menerapkan semua step dari discovery learning sebagai solusinya. Fasilitas kadang kurang mendukung proses belajar mengajar, oleh sebab itu guru biasanya membawa fasilitas yang diperlukan untuk mengantisipasi situasi jika fasilitas di sekolah tidak mendukungKata Kunci : Kurikulum 2013, discovery learning model, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris ABSTRACT The purposes of this study were to 1) describe the implementation of discovery learning model in teaching English for seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja, 2) to find out the problems faced by the teacher in implementing discovery learning model during the teaching-learning process in seventh grade at SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja and 3) to find out the solutions given by the teacher in implementing discovery learning model during the teaching-learning process for seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. This study was designed in that form of a qualitative research. The instruments which were used in gathering data were a researcher, a video camera, an observation sheet, and interview guides. The data were collected by recording the implementation of discovery learning during teaching-learning process and transcribing them. The result shows that in his teaching and learning process, the teacher was not fully implement discovery learning model. It was in line too with the teacher perception. The teacher did not have clear understanding about discovery learning, which causes him not to fully implement discovery learning. In addition, discovery learning was difficult to implement in language teaching. The teacher also had problems in determining the learning materials which were suitable to the discovery learning model, lack of time and the facilities to support the learning process. To solve the problem in determining the learning materials, the teacher discuss it with another teacher. While, to maximize the limited time, the teacher did not apply all stages in discovery learning completely as the solution. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi penggunaan tehnik Think Talk Write dan Mind Mapping dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif untuk kelas delapan di SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian perbandingan. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampling acak sebagai tehnik menentukan sampel. Kelompok 1 diajarkan dengan menggunakan tehnik Think Talk Write dan Kelompok 2 diajarkan menggunakan tehnik Mind Mapping. Data dari penelitian ini didapat dari melakukan tes tulis. Nilai rata-rata kelompok 1 = 86.0, sedangkan kelompok 2 = 75.6. Kemudian data terseut di analisis menggunakan formula uji t. Hasil test menunjukkan bahwa nilai Sig. = 0.605, lebih tinggi dari 0.05. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (tobs = 7.375). Ini menunjukkan Sig. (2-tailed) kurang dari tingkat alpha standar yaitu 0.05. Jadi, hipotesa alternatif diterima. Ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada penggunaan tehnik Think Talk Write dan Mind Mapping tehnik dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran kolaboratif memberikan efek yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa.Kata Kunci : mind mapping, pembelajaran kolaboratif, think talk write This study aimed to investigate the use of Think Talk Write and Mind Mapping technique of teaching writing descriptive text to the eighth-grade students of SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. The study was a comparative study. This study uses cluster random sampling as the sampling technique. The group 1 was taught by using Think Talk Write technique and the group 2 was taught by using Mind Mapping technique. The data of the test were collected by administering a written test. Abstract

Social networks sites adalah online platform yang dapat digunakan untuk mendukung proses belajar mengajar di era global ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan social networks sites sebagai media pembelajaran dalam memfasilitasi pelajaran menulis bahasa Inggris di SMA dan SMK di Buleleng. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian campuran. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memberikan kuesioner, melakukan wawancara dan observasi. Responden dalam penelitian ini adalah 13 guru bahasa Inggris dari 11 sekolah dan juga 110 siswa dari seluruh sebelas sekolah. Data menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan social networks sites sangat bermanfaat bagi guru dan siswa. Hal itu ditunjukkan dari persepsi guru dan persepsi siswa terhadap pelaksanaan social networks sites dikategorikan dalam tinggi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru dan siswa menggunakan berbagai macam social networks sites dalam pembelajaran menulis dan juga mempunyai persepsi yang tinggi terhadap penggunaan social networks sites.Kata Kunci : Social networks sites, Media Pembelajaran, Menulis Bahasa Inggris. Social networks sites are an online platforms that can be used to support teaching and learning process in this global era. This study aims at describing the use of social networks sites as teaching media in facilitating English writing lesson in senior high schools and vocational high schools in Buleleng. This study uses mix-methods approach. The data were collected by giving questionnaires, doing an interview and observation. The respondents in this study were 13 English teachers from 11 high schools also 110 students from the entire eleven schools. The data shows that the use of social networks sites is very beneficial for the teacher and students. Meanwhile, teacher and students’ perception toward the implementation of social networks sites is categorized in high category. It can be concluded that teachers and students use various social networks sites in writing lesson as well as they have high perception towards the implementation social networks sites.keyword : Social Networks Sites, Teaching Media, English Writing.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the effect of ICT-based interactive game towards the English achievement of sixth grade students in primary school cluster IV in Sukasada district, in academic year 2016/2017. This study was a quasi-experimental research which used post-test only control group design. The population of this study was 174 students from eight elementary schools in cluster IV in Sukasada district. The samples of this study were 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 3 Sukasada and 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 4 Sukasada selected by administering cluster random sampling technique. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistics analysis. It was found that the result of hypothesis testing (independent t-test) showed that the tobs = 3.256>tcv= 2.018 and the significance value of the data was 0.002 lower than α = 0.05. It can be inferred that there is a significant effect of ICT-based interactive towards students’ English achievement. In conclusion, ICT-based interactive game is an effective teaching media and it is suggested to be applied by teachers to improve students’ English achievement in primary schools. keyword : English achievement, ICT-based interactive game, young learners

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan pada prestasi berbicara siswa yang diajarkan dengan media “Puppet” dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan konvensional teknik. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 3 Banjar. Berdasarkan teknik pengambilan sampel secara acak, 2 kelas diambil sebagai sampel dari penelitian ini. Kelas-kelas tersebut ditentukan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol berdasarkan undian. Untuk memperoleh data yang diperlukan, dua kelompok tersebut diberikan perlakuan. Kelompok eksperimen diajarkan menggunakan puppet, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diajarkan menggunakan konvensional teknik (Three-phase teknik). Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengumpulkan data adalah skenario pembelajaran dan post-test yang berbentuk tes berbicara. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisa secara deskriptif, inferensial dan effect size. Dilihat dari hasil test hypothesis, menunjukan bahwa Sig. (2-tailed) kurang dari standard alpha (α=0.05). Oleh karena itu, null hypothesis ditolak, yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan pada prestasi berbicara siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan Puppet dan siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan konvensional teknik.Kata Kunci : Prestasi berbicara, Puppet, Konvensional This study aimed at investigating whether or not there was any significant effect on students’ speaking achievement who were taught by “puppet” and those who were taught by conventional technique. The population of this study was the eighth grade students in SMP N 3 Banjar. Through Cluster random sampling, two classes were taken as samples in this study. They were assigned as experimental group and control group by lottery. To obtain the required data, the two groups were given treatments. The experimental group was taught by using puppet as media, meanwhile the control group was taught by using conventional technique (Three-phase technique). The instruments used in this study to collect the data were the teaching scenario and post-test in the form of speaking test. The obtained data were then analyzed descriptively, inferentially and effect size. It was seen from the result of hypothesis testing, showing that the Sig. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti adanya pengaruh Collaborative writing strategy yang dibantu dengan Fanfiction terhadap kompetensi menulis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI dan sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 40 siswa kelas XI di SMAN 1 Sukasada yang dipilih sebagai sampel melalui teknik random sampling. Penelitian ini didesain dengan menggunakan desain posttest only control group. Perlakuan diberikan selama 6 kali pertemuan. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah analytical scoring rubric. Posttest diberikan kepada siswa di akhir pertemuan untuk mengumpulkan data kompetensi menulis siswa. Hasil dari posttest dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan t-test. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen menunjukkan kompetensi menulis yang lebih baik daripada kelompok kontrol. Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa collaborative writing strategy yang dibantu dengan fanfiction efektif digunakan untuk mengajar menulis, khusunya menulis naratif. Diharapkan bahwa guru dapat mengimplementasikan strategi ini dalam mengajar menulis narratif.Kata Kunci : Collaborative Writing Strategy, Fanfiction, Kompetensi Menulis This study aimed at investigating the effect of collaborative writing strategy assisted with fanfiction towards students’ writing competency. The population of this study were the eleventh grade students and the sample were 40 eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Sukasada which were selected as the sample through random sampling technique. The research was designed by using post-test only control group design. The treatment was given for 6 times of meeting. The instrument of this study was analytical scoring rubric. A posttest was given to the students at the end of meeting to collect the data of the students’ writing competency. The result of post-test was analyzed descriptively and inferentially by using t-test. The result of this study showed that experimental group performed better competency in writing rather than the control group. So, it can be concluded that collaborative writing strategy assisted with fanfiction is effective to be used to teach writing, especially writing narrative. It is suggested that teachers can implement this strategy in teaching narrative writing. keyword : Collaborative Writing, Fanfiction, Writing Competency

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari permainan interatif berbasis ICT terhadap motivasi prestasi, prestasi Bahasa Inggris, dan secara simultan terhadap motivasi prestasi dan prestasi Bahasa Inggris siswa. Penelitian experimental ini mengambil 174 siswa sekolah dasar sebagai populasi di gugus 4 kecamatan Sukasada, Kabupaten Buleleng Tahun Akademik 2016/2017, dimana 44 siswa yang melibatkan 22 siswa dari SD Negeri 3 Sukasada menjadi kelompok kontrol dan 22 siswa dari SD Negeri 4 Sukasada sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Mereka dipilih sebagai sampel penelitian melalui teknik random sampling. Data telah dikumpulkan melalui kuisioner motivasi prestasi dan post-test. Data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan ANAVA dan MANOVA satu jalur dengan SPSS 22.0. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, pertama, siswa yang diajarkan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT memiliki motivasi prestasi yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajarkan dengan teknik konvensional, kedua, siswa yang diajarkan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT memiliki prestasi Bahasa Inggris yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajarkan dengan teknik konvensional, ketiga terdapat pengaruh simultan dari permainan interaktif berbasis ICT terhadap motivasi prestasi dan prestasi Bahasa Inggris siswa.Kata Kunci : Motivasi Prestasi, Permainan Interaktif Berbasis ICT, Prestasi Bahasa Inggris, pelajar pemula This research purposed to investigate whether or not there was a significant effect on the use of ICT based interactive game on students’ achievement motivation and English achievement of the 6th grade of primary school. This quasi-experimental research implemented post-test only control group design. The population of this research was all the 6th grade of primary school in cluster 4 in Sukasada district. This research administered cluster random sampling to determine the sample of this research. As the result of administering cluster random sampling, the sample of this study was 22 students of 6th grade students in SD Negeri 3 Sukasada as the experimental group and 22 students of 6th grade in SD Negeri 4 Sukasada as the control group. The data were gathered by achievement motivation questionnaire and a post-test for both group. Then the data were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA and MANOVA assisted by SPSS 22.0. The findings show that, first, the students who were taught by ICT-based interactive game achieved better achievement motivation than those who were taught by conventional teaching, second, the students who were taught by ICT-based interactive game achieved better English achievement than those who were taught by conventional teaching, and third, the was a simultaneous effect of ICT-based interactive game on students’ achievement motivation and English achievement.keyword : ICT-based interactive game, achievement motivation, English achievement, young learners

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) menginvestigasi persepsi murid kelas 5 pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT terhadap motivasi belajar dan pretasi belajar Bahasa Inggris, (2) menginvestigasi persepsi guru Bahasa Inggris pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT sebagai media pembelajaran. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan Cross-sectional survei sebagai metodenya. Penelitian ini melibatkan 156 siswa kelas 5 dan 6 guru Bahasa Inggris dari enam sekolah dasar negeri di Kecamatan Sukasada. Data dari dua kuisioner yang berbeda kemudian di hitung skor rata-ratanya dengan menggunakan perhitungan Aritmetika di Microsoft Office Excel untuk mengetahui level kualifikasi dari setiap persepsi. Hasil dari data analisis menunjukkan bahwa (1) sebagian besar murid kelas 5 menunjukkan persepsi yang sangat positif pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT terhadap motivasi belajar dan persepsi yang positif pada prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris, (2) guru menunjukkan persepsi yang positif pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT sebagai media pembelajaran dengan Jadi, dapat disimpulkan dari hasil tersebut bahwa siswa kelas 5 dan guru Bahasa Inggris mereka menunjukkan persepsi yang positif pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT. Kata Kunci : persepsi, motivasi belajar siswa, prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa, permainan interaktif berbasis ICT. This study aimed at (1) investigating fifth grade students’ perception on the use of ICT Based Interactive Game on their learning motivation and English learning achievement, (2) investigating fifth grade English teachers’ perception on the use of ICT Based Interactive Game as teaching media. This study was quantitative research design which used Cross-sectional survey as the method. This study involved 156 fifth grade students and 6 English teachers from six public elementary schools in Sukasada District. The mean score of the data from the two different questionnaires were processed by using Arithmetic Statistics in Microsoft Office Excel in order to know the qualification level of each perception. The results of data analysis indicated that (1) most of students corresponded to very positive perception on the use of ICT Based Interactive Game on students’ motivation and positive perception on their English learning achievement, (2) teachers showed positive perception on the use of ICT Based Interactive Game as teaching media. Consequently, results showed that both fifth grade students and their teachers had positive perception on the use of ICT Based Interactive Game. keyword : perception, students’ motivation, students’ English learning achievement, ICT based interactive game

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) yang bertujuan untuk: (1) mengidentifikasi jenis materi berbasis e-learning yang dibutuhkan oleh siswa kelas 10 jurusan Pharmacy di SMKN 1 Kubutambahan.; (2) mendesain materi berbasis e-learning untuk siswa kelas 10 jurusan Pharmacy di SMKN 1 Kubutambahan; (3) mengetahui kualitas materi berbasis e-learning untuk siswa kelas 10 jurusan Pharmacy di SMKN 1 Kubutambahan. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan pada desain penelitian dan pengembangan oleh Lee & Owen (2004). Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui analisis wawancara, kuisioner, observasi, dokumen, angket, dan uji ahli. Hasil data dari analisis wawancara, kuisioner, observasi, dokumen, dan angket dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif, dan data dari uji ahli dianalisis dengan menggunakan Interrater Agreement Model dianalisis melalui hasil angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) siswa membutuhkan materi yang lebih spesifik dan berbasis e-learning, (2) materi yang dikembangkan berbasis e-learning yakni dalam bentuk buku yang diintegrasikan dengan e-learning, (3) materi Bahasa Inggris berbasis e-learning dikategorikan sebagai materi berkualitas tinggi berdasarkan validitas isi. This study aimed at identifying kinds of e-learning based materials are needed by the tenth-grade students of Pharmacy Department of SMKN 1 Kubutambahan, designing the e-learning based materials for the tenth-grade students of Pharmacy Department of SMKN 1 Kubutambahan and know the quality of e-learning based materials for the tenth-grade students of Pharmacy Department of SMKN 1 Kubutambahan. This study was done by using the research and development design of Lee & Owen (2004). The data of the research was collected by using interview analysis, questionnaire, observation analysis, document analysis, questionnaire and expert judgments. The result of interview analysis, questionnaire, observation analysis, and document analysis were analyzed by using descriptive analysis and the data of expert judgments were analyzed by using Inter-rater Agreement Model. The study showed that (1) The students need specific e-learning materials; (2) the developed e-learning based materials are in the form of book integrated with e-learning, (3) the e-learning based materials was considered as very good materials based on content validity.keyword : : R & D, e-learning, pharmacy, English materials
