Abstract

Ensuring reliable measurements is crucial for minimising errors in assessments. The assessmentcommunity commonly employs the evaluation of reliability coefficients to estimate the dependability oftest scores. Despite its significance, limited research has explored the relationship between the estimated reliability coefficient and the number of scale points utilised. This study aims to provide valuable insights to practitioners by investigating the optimal number of scale points required for the most accurate reliability coefficient estimation. Using simulated data, the research scrutinises scales with varying points, ranging from 2 to 11. The results reveal a substantial impact of the number of scale points on reliability estimation. The most accurate estimate of reliability is obtained for scales with 8 points. This study helps us understand the optimal number of scale points for reliable measurements and guides future assessment improvements.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze research trends on the topic of critical thinking in mathematics learning using bibliometric analysis. By selecting documents in Scopus Database using the PRISMA method, 94 documents were obtained which were analyzed using the R Program and VOSviewer. From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that research on the Scopus database began in 2004 to 2024 or the last 20 years, with a 3-fold increase in publications in the last 6 years. 2020 was the year with the highest citation impact, namely 130(10.53%) citations. Indonesia stands out as the country with the highest number of publications at 19(20.21%) and number of citations is 145(11.75%). International Journal of Instruction stands out as the source with the highest h-index, namely 5. Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram leads with a total of 8(8.51%) publications. Suparman from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia is the author with the highest contribution with an h-index of 5. The article with the highest number of citations of Şendağ et al. (2009) with 241 citations. 39 keywords were obtained which were divided into 7 groups, with the keywords "Problem Solving", "Flipped Learning", "Analysis", and "Mathematics Course" the latest keywords which can be used as recommendations for further research in the field of critical thinking in mathematics learning.         Keywords: critical thinking, mathematics learning, bibliometric, biblioshiny. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp637-658

Abstract

The current disruptive era demands many changes in various areas of life. Likewise, the technological transformation has significant unavoidable consequences. This is where it is necessary to consider a strong foundation for students from the elementary level. This article examines the application and reflection of philosophy on the content of elementary school mathematics in Indonesia. The background of this study is the need for an era where there is a need for constructive mathematics learning from an early age towards learning the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The purpose of this study is to identify (1) the nature of symptoms or objects of application and reflection of philosophy in elementary mathematics (ontological reasons), (2) how to obtain or manage symptoms or objects (epistemological reasons), (3) the benefits of symptoms or objects (axiological reasons), and two-way understanding of phenomena and objects (hermeneutics). Data is obtained based on relevant sources such as journal articles, books, and previous research results supported by qualitative analysis. The results of this study indicate the need to reveal the application and reflection of philosophy in low-grade mathematics content through the ontology of mathematics, epistemology, axiology, and hermeneutics.

Abstract

Adhesively wood-wood bonded joint has been widely used in structural applications, however because wood is a hygroscopic material that absorbed water from environment, hence the absorbed water affects the joints performance. The objective of the paper is to investigate water absorbtion and desorbtion behaviour and the combined effect of absorbed water into the wood before being bonded and adhesive curing temperature on the shear strength of teak wood joints. The initial water content in the wood was 0%, 37%, and 54%, while the curing temperature was a  room temperature for 24 hours, 50°C for 6 hours, and 100°C for 3 hours. The water absorbtion behaviour of teak wood deviate from the Fick's law, however the desorbtion tends to follow the Fick's law. Moreover the rate of absorbtion is higher than the rate of desorbtion. At the same curing temperature, the increase of water content decreases the shear strength of the joints; however the decrease was compensated by increasing the curing temperature. Curing at a high temperature (100 oC) improves the joints strength in all moisture content studied and the failure of the joints occurs at the wood.

Abstract

This paper presents the effect of volume fraction of rice husks on the mechanical properties of bamboo fiber/unsaturated polyester composites. The composite specimens were made from bamboo fiber with fixed volume fraction of 40% and rice husk particle as filler with volume fractions varied 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. Matrix used was unsaturated polyester resin. Bamboo fibers and rice husk were surface treated using alkali solution 4% (by weight) for 2 hours. The manufacturing process of composite was using hand layup method. The specimens were tested in tension, bending and in impact loading. The results show that the addition of rice husk particles up to volume fraction of 20% does not result in a decrease of tensile strength, but after a volume fraction of 20%, the tensile strength tends to decrease. In bending test, the rice husk volume fraction up to 20% increase the bending strength, but after that then it tends to decrease. However the bending modulus seems unaffected by the volume fraction of rice husk. Similar to the bending modulus, the impact strength is not significantly affected by the volume fraction of rice husk.

Abstract

Creative thinking is the ability to generate and develop new ideas. It is considered a high-level thinking skill that plays a crucial role in the 21st century. According to the 2022 PISA results, the creative thinking skills of Indonesian students are categorized as low. The Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, when integrated with the STEAM approach, offers a promising strategy to enhance creative thinking. This study aims to provide an overview of how various teaching strategies—particularly PjBL—compare to other approaches in fostering creative thinking through the STEAM framework, using a Systematic Literature Review. Following the PRISMA protocol, nine relevant articles were identified that addressed the research questions. The findings indicate that the PjBL-STEAM approach has a significantly more positive, profound, and sustainable impact on improving creative thinking skills across all educational levels compared to other pedagogical strategies. PjBL fosters creativity not only as an academic skill but also as a life competency, integrated with 21st-century social, emotional, and problem-solving abilities. This study offers direction for future research in evaluating effective learning models to enhance creative thinking.
