Abstract

The implementation of Merdeka Belajar (MB) brings fundamental changes to Vocational High Schools (VHS). The MB curriculum that is implemented needs to be approached with a deep understanding of the concepts and processes. Thus, many factors influence its implementation. This research aims to analyze the factors in implementing independent learning in vocational schools. This research uses a qualitative approach with a multi-case study at two Public Vocational High Schools (PVHS) in Blitar through in-depth interviews supported by observation and documentation. The research results show that the independent curriculum implemented in PVHS has obstacles in the form of teacher misconceptions and difficulties in synchronizing the curriculum in Light Vehicle Engineering (LVE) with industry. The learning model used in LVE subjects to train students to work independently is PjBL. Meanwhile, guest teachers from industries are invited to provide training and insight to teachers and students. Furthermore, internships are carried out in LVE workshops and industry. Meanwhile, student competency tests are carried out involving the career center and school certification. LVE learning technology updates and graduate absorption also influence this. In conclusion, the implementation of the MB curriculum at VHS is determined by teacher awareness and leadership strategy choices.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the concentration of heavy equipment in industrial classes contributes to the work readiness of Vocational High School graduates, particularly in terms of meeting the demands of Industry 4.0. This research employs a literature review approach by analyzing relevant studies, reports, and publications on vocational education, work readiness, and competencies in the digital era. The findings indicate that the heavy equipment concentration industrial class program enhances graduates' work readiness through the integration of up-to-date technology in the curriculum and a practice-based learning model that develops both technical and soft skills. Graduates are expected to possess technological literacy, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to digitalization and automation in modern industries. However, this study is limited to secondary data analysis and lacks empirical field data, which should be addressed in future research. The findings have broader implications not only for education but also for the social and economic dimensions of vocational development. By strengthening collaboration between schools and industries, this model enhances graduate employability, promotes local economic growth, and cultivates a skilled workforce aligned with national industrial transformation objectives. Overall, the program has a positive impact; nevertheless, curriculum updates are essential to remain responsive to ongoing industrial changes.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) on students’ cognitive understanding and psychomotor performance in the Computer Aided Design (CAD) subject, a core course within the Mechanical Engineering program at SMKN 1 Singosari. The research was motivated by the need to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and real-world design competencies in vocational education. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, with a total sampling technique involving all students enrolled in the CAD course during the ongoing semester. Data were collected through cognitive tests, practical performance assessments, and Likert-scale questionnaires to measure perceptions. The results revealed that students achieved high levels of cognitive mastery, with dominant correct responses on key CAD concepts such as part modeling, assembly environments, and technical file formats. Psychomotor evaluations indicated consistent practical performance, with a mean score of 82.36, while perception analysis reflected high levels of student engagement and satisfaction with the PjBL model. These findings suggest that PjBL effectively fosters integrated learning experiences that enhance technical understanding, practical skills, and student motivation. Consequently, the adoption of project-based strategies is recommended for vocational curricula to support competency-based education in technical fields.

Abstract

Vocational education must ensure that students acquire not only technical competence but also the confidence and critical thinking needed for real-world tasks. This study investigates the effectiveness of a mentor-based instructional model in enhancing student performance in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) practices within the subject of Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at SMK Negeri 1 Singosari, Indonesia. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 70 eleventh-grade mechanical engineering students through structured performance assessments and Likert-scale questionnaires. The results show a high average performance score of 84.04 with a standard deviation of 3.18, where 89% of students were categorized as “High” and 11% as “Very High.” Performance scores increased progressively across assessment stages, and students reported improved confidence, motivation, and procedural accuracy. These findings suggest that structured mentoring significantly supports technical mastery, reduces skill disparities, and cultivates reflective learning habits. It is concluded that mentor-guided learning should be integrated more widely in vocational curricula. It is also recommended that future research explore the long-term impact of mentoring on work readiness, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset across other technical fields.

Abstract

Gelato has become a trendy dessert, gaining popularity in the market. However, few UMKM are involved in making contemporary gelato. One reason is the high cost of equipment and the need for special techniques. The success of a gelato product is largely determined by the dough used. Given this situation, UMKM should start using technology to produce gelato dough with higher quality and consistency. The design method for creating gelato dough mixer technology that meets UMKM needs includes problem identification, field studies, design, prototyping, assembly, and analysis. This technology is expected to create an effective, efficient, and high-quality production process. This technology serves not only for stirring but also as a chopper for fruit or other gelato ingredients. This gelato dough mixer technology chops the gelato topping ingredients, which then automatically fall into the gelato mixing chamber and are churned into gelato. The mixing chamber can accommodate a single production process of 30 kg. After mixing is complete, the gelato is removed from the mixing tube through the provided channel, and the results are stored in a container so the packing process can continue.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of the Field Work Practice Program at one vocational high school in Trenggalek and its impact on students’ work-readiness. This study employed a qualitative method, with in-depth interviews as the primary data collection technique. Data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the Field Work Practice program was implemented using a Block Release system over a six-month period during the sixth semester. The implementation stages consisted of a pre-Field Work Practice phase encompassing socialization, briefing, and registration; a core phase involving student placement with business or industry partners, accompanied by regular monitoring; and a post-Field Work Practice phase covering student withdrawal, examination implementation, report preparation, and certificate issuance. The Field Work Practice program was shown to make a positive contribution to the development of students’ technical skills, discipline, communication abilities, and understanding of workplace culture. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including misalignment between the school curriculum and industry needs, as well as differences in the competency levels of teachers and students, particularly in terms of soft skills. Overall, the Field Work Practice program significantly enhanced graduates’ work-readiness, though continuous improvement is still needed to optimize outcomes

Abstract

This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) study aims to analyze the trends, models, and effects of STEAM Chemistry Learning Based on Local Wisdom in strengthening students’ vocational skills and science literacy during the period 2020–2025. A total of 13 articles that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed from the Google Scholar database using the PRISMA 2020 Statement guidelines. The results of the review indicate an increasing trend toward interdisciplinary approaches that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with cultural contexts and local community life. The most dominant models applied were Project-Based STEAM Learning (PjBL-STEAM) and Problem-Based Local Wisdom STEAM (PBLW-STEAM), which were shown to be effective in developing students’ creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. The integration of local wisdom not only made chemistry learning more contextual but also strengthened vocational competencies through practical and sustainable application
