Abstract

This research is motivated by the low literacy scores of Indonesia according to the 2022 PISA, ranking 68 out of 81 countries, as well as the indication of low reading habits which consequently lead to difficulties in reading comprehension abilities. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between reading habits and reading comprehension abilities among students. This study adopts a quantitative approach with a correlational method to identify the relationship between the variables under investigation. The research instruments used include interview guidelines, reading habits questionnaires, and Indonesian language tests. The results of this study indicate that (1) students' reading habits vary, some have high and moderate reading habits; (2) the level of students' reading comprehension abilities also varies, ranging from literal, reorganization, inferential, evaluative to appreciative levels, and there are those with low, moderate, and high reading comprehension abilities; (3) the significance value of 0.496 indicates a low significant relationship between reading habits and reading comprehension abilities among students. This low relationship suggests that further research on the relationship between reading determinant variables needs to be explored, for instance, for potential artificial intelligence development.Keywords: Reading Habits; Reading Comprehension Ability; Students

Abstract

The ability of teachers to make digital learning tools is one of the competencies that must be mastered, namely pedagogic competence and professional competence. Elementary Islamic Religious Education teachers must be able to create innovative learning media as a necessity for teaching in this digital era. Improving teachers' innovation abilities can be done independently or officially through training. The training on making SAC learning media is one of the efforts to increase teacher innovation. This training was attended by 44 participants consisting of elementary Islamic Religious Education teachers in Sumedang. The training lasted for 32 hours of learning which was carried out in offline and online mode. Through this training, the results of elementary school Islamic Religious Education teachers were obtained: 1) able to improve their innovation ability in making learning media armed with training materials about Applications as learning media and application design materials, 2) able to use SAC to make android application learning media armed with instructions from instructors during online meetings, training modules volumes 1-7 and video tutorials for making SAC-based android applications. Through this training, it can be recommended to teachers to improve the ability to innovate in learning, one of which is by mastering SAC as an application to create android application learning media.

Abstract

Preliminary studies show that reading skills have not become a habit for fourth grade students. This fact becomes the background of the problem in students' reading comprehension learning. Students have difficulty answering questions about events experienced by characters and are still confused in capturing information in a text. Students are still confused in determining their opinion about the message of the story. One of the efforts to improve reading comprehension skills is to use the Jigsaw learning model with the help of digital books. This study used a classroom action research method with a qualitative design with data collection techniques in the form of tests, observations, and field notes. The subjects of this study were 24 fourth grade students of SDN in North Sumedang District, Sumedang Regency. The criteria for achieving learning objectives (KKTP) in this subject is 70 with a learning completeness target of ≥85%. Based on the results of the actions provided, the percentage of student learning outcomes in the pre-action reached 8.33%, in cycle I increased to 45.83%, in cycle II increased to 87.50% which means that learning in cycle II has reached the target of learning completeness.

Abstract

This study aims to develop REKTISANMORI (Automatic Correction of Moral Messages) media based on a website of moral message material for narrative stories to help students conclude moral messages in a narrative story. Based on the results of the research, the development of REKTISANMORI (Automatic Correction of Moral Messages) media based on a website of moral message material for narrative stories can be used in the learning process with the category of "very feasible" based on the results of the percentage of material experts and language experts of 91.66% and for media experts of 93.75%, as well as student response questionnaires with a percentage of 88.14%.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of grade V elementary school students in writing poetry independently. Learners have difficulty in finding ideas, choosing diction/majas, difficulty expressing feelings and the lack of interesting and appropriate learning media. The purpose of this research is to develop the BEMPI (Learning to Write Poetry) application as an independent learning media that can improve students' poetry writing skills, determine the feasibility of the application, and determine user responses to the application. The research method uses the Design and Development (D&D) method with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects consisted of media experts, material experts, teachers, and fifth grade students of SD Negeri Sangkanmulya, Kuningan Regency. Data collection instruments were interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the BEMPI application obtained a percentage of feasibility from media expert validation of 92.50% and from material expert validation of 88.75%, which was included in the “very feasible” category. The response of students and teachers to this application is also very positive, getting the results of the percentage of small group students 98.50% and large groups 95.25% and from the teacher's response 96.25% which is classified as “very good”. Thus, the BEMPI application is proven to be feasible to be used as a medium for independent learning to write poetry in elementary schools and can stay away from poetry.

Abstract

Early reading instruction in elementary schools still uses conventional methods that tend to be monotonous, making them less effective in increasing student motivation and engagement. This study aims to develop game-based early reading instructional materials that are engaging, interactive, and appropriate to the characteristics of elementary school students. The study employed the Design and Development (D&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects were first and second grade elementary school students, with the instructional materials divided into letter level for first grade and word level for second grade. The validation results from material experts obtained a final percentage of 87.5%, categorized as very feasible, while the validation results from media experts obtained a final percentage of 95%, categorized as very feasible. The implementation showed positive student responses with a percentage of more than 90% in the very good category, and teacher responses were also in the very good category in all assessment aspects. The evaluation resulted in minor revisions to instructions, vocabulary, layout, and color, making the media more communicative and engaging. Thus, the game-based early reading instructional materials are declared feasible and effective for use in learning, and can be an alternative innovation for basic literacy media in elementary schools.

Abstract

Pengabdian berbasis kepakaran bidang ilmu ini bertujuan untuk menguatkan kompetensi guru PAI melalui pelatihan pembuatan aplikasi BETA (Belajar dari Peta) sebagai media edukasi doa’doa harian bagi siswa SD. Sasaran pengabdian dibatasi sebanyak 15 orang guru SD dengan 4 orang pelatih/instruktur selama 32 jam yang dilaksanakan pada 21-23 Juli 2023 di SDN Sukamaju. Materi pelatihan meliputi urgensi kompetensi guru PAI dalam membuat media pembelajaran, analisis KD PAI SD, materi doa-doa harian, jenis-jenis media pembelajaran, pengenalan berbagai aplikasi media pembelajaran, pengenalan aplikasi berbasis Android, pengenalan aplikasi BETA, desain aplikasi BETA dan penerapannya untuk media pembelajaran berbasis aplikasi Android di SD, pengisian konten dalam aplikasi BETA dan penerapannya untuk media pembelajaran berbasis aplikasi Android di SD, praktik pembuatan aplikasi Android di SD, dan latihan pembuatan untuk media pembelajaran berbasis aplikasi Android di SD. Hasil pengabdian ini adalah: 1) guru-guru dapat meng-upgrade kemampuan IT-nya dengan mengoptimalkan powerpoint dan beberapa aplikasi yang tersedia  (canva, youtube, Web2AK, VN) untuk pembuatan media pembelajaran bagi siswa SD, 2) cara melatih guru-guru untuk membuat media pembelajaran berupa aplikasi Android dilakukan dengan cara membimbing mereka dalam mempersiapkan perlengkapan sampai proses convert menjadi aplikasi Android. Peserta merasakan nilai manfaatnya dan berharap dapat mengikuti pelatihan-pelatihan membuat media pembelajaran berikutnya berbentuk aplikasi lainnya.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of differentiated learning strategies assisted by children's movie stories in improving the viewing skills of grade 5 elementary school students. The problem of this research is based on the low viewing skills of students in elementary schools and the non-optimal use of audiovisual media in Indonesian language learning. This research used quantitative method with quasi experimental design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects were experimental class at SDN Cikoneng 1 and control class at SDN Sukaraja 1. The research instruments included pretest and posttest tests, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The results showed that the application of differentiated learning strategy helped by children's movie stories was significantly more effective than conventional learning in improving students' viewing skills. In addition, the implementation of this strategy also increases students' interest and participation in learning. This proves that the combination of differentiated approach and children's movie-based audiovisual media can create adaptive, interesting and appropriate learning with students' characteristics. The research findings contribute positively to the development of Indonesian language learning models based on visual literacy and provide alternative strategies to improve digital literacy skills, especially viewing skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study developed a learning media called Learn AniMe! based on the Scaffolding approach for teaching English vocabulary on the Animals theme to third-grade elementary school students. The method used was Design and Development (D&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). This web-based media integrates Google Sites and Scratch, aligned with students’ concrete operational stage. Validation results from media and material experts indicated a “highly feasible” category with scores of 88.23% and 100%, respectively. Small-group and large-group trials yielded average scores of 98.57% and 88.10%, both falling into the “excellent” category. This media is considered feasible to be used as an innovative alternative for English language learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Writing is one of the essential skills in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. However, many students still struggle to write descriptive texts in a complete and structured manner. This issue arises from the suboptimal use of learning media and the lack of explicit guidance from teachers during the writing process. This study aims to examine the effect of using the Deskripedia application, which is based on guided writing, on the descriptive writing skills of sixth-grade elementary school students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of 30 sixth-grade students from SDN Pasirjati. The main instrument used was a descriptive text writing test, assessed based on text structure and linguistic features. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and N-Gain score. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ writing skills after using Deskripedia, with the average score increasing from 36.63 (pretest) to 85.30 (posttest). The Wilcoxon test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), and the mean N-Gain score of 76.74 indicated a high category of improvement. These findings suggest that Deskripedia is an effective digital learning medium for enhancing students’ writing skills in a structured and independent manner.
