Abstract

Kata kunci: Hambatan Didaktik, Hambatan Epistemologi, Hambatan Ontogenik, Learning Obstacle, SantriThis study aims to identify learning obstacles experienced by santri (students) in the mathematics learning process in Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School). Interpretive studies are used to identify learning obtstacles. There are several learning obstacles experienced by santri in the mathematics learning in Pesantren, namely: 1) The ontogenic obstacles experienced by santri come from instrumental ontogenic obstacles and conceptual ontogenic obstacles, so that they affect psychological ontogenic obstacles (motivation and interest); 2) Didactic obstacles occur because the mathematics curriculum used is the same as the mathematics curriculum in SMA or MA so that it affects the presentation and teaching of mathematics by teachers in the classroom because they pursue a lot of material while the lesson hours are limited so they cannot maximize the mathematics learning process and accommodate increased santri abilities related to their needs as a cadre of ulama; 3) Epistemological obstacles occur because the learning process is fixated on SMA or MA textbooks so that the learning context is the same as learning mathematics in SMA or MA and is not linked to the context of Islamic religious knowledge or according to the situation of PesantrenKeywords: Didactic Obstacles, Epistemological Obstacles, Islamic Boarding School, Learning Obstacles, Ontogenic Obstacles

Abstract

Mathematics cannot be separated from everyday life. The use of mathematical concepts in cultural activities can be studied through the ethnomathematics program. However, ethnomathematics research may not be able to provide noticeable results, especially in constructing mathematical modelling for pedagogical purposes. Ethnomodelling later became one of the concepts introduced as an approach in ethnomathematics research. Based on the cultural aspect, the ability to predict a good day in farming is included in the holistic concept of culture because it belongs to the knowledge system and belief system (religion) in the universal element of culture. The research was conducted using an ethnomethodological approach and a realist ethnographic design. Based on this, this research was conducted to describe the ability of the Cigugur indigenous people in Kuningan Regency to predict what days are considered good to start farming activities. Data were collected by using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis techniques are carried out in stages through content analysis, triangulation, and pattern search. Based on the study of ethnomathematics, research that is able to describe the mathematical ideas and practices of the indigenous Cigugur community can be classified into several fundamental mathematical dimensions including counting, finding, measuring, designing, and explaining. The use of the ethnomodelling approach in research can describe several mathematical concepts used by the concepts of numbers, sets, relations, congruence, modulo, and mathematical modelling.

Abstract

Mathematical resilience is a multidimensional construct in positive psychology focusing on mental health. The education system in Indonesia changed the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This pandemic event provides an opportunity for academics to take further academic decisions in the future. Good mathematical resilience skills are needed to prepare students to carry out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively examine mathematical resilience skills using a blended learning model during a pandemic. This type of research uses case study research and is descriptive. The research was conducted on fourth-semester students of the 2020-2021 academic year at a private university in Cirebon, West Java, with research subjects consisting of 37 students. The data was obtained from a mathematical resilience questionnaire in linear program lectures using a blended learning model. Collecting data using a questionnaire instrument was analyzed using the formula for the distribution of frequencies and percentages. The results showed that students' mathematical resilience skills using blended learning in the Linear Program courses during the Covid-19 pandemic were good; previous research on the Linear Program courses obtained good results of resilience abilities but in different samples. The existence of the Covid-19 pandemic does not have much effect on mathematical resilience abilities.

Abstract

In some cases, Statistical learning only applies some formulas without paying attention to developing students’ reasoning ability. So, statistical learning can cause missed conception to the students. A teacher should identify the students’ learning obstacles to achieve the learning objectives. This study aims to know the students’ learning obstacles in solving statistical reasoning problems from two aspects. The first is from the emic aspect; it is a student's viewpoint toward solving the statistical problem. The second is from the aspect of ethics; it is a student viewpoint toward the teacher’s teaching technique done in teaching statistics. This qualitative study employs the explorative case study with epistemology study to discuss the students’ learning obstacles. From the test result and interview of three participants, it is concluded that the students face some obstacles in statistical reasoning problem-solving. The teacher also still used conventional methods in teaching the students.

Abstract

Peers have an influence on the development of adolescents, especially prospective students, especially when choosing a major in a college. Choosing a major in a college for each prospective student is often related to the peer group. Some prospective students in Indonesia when choosing a major are still influenced by peers when making a decision, this cannot be separated from the role of peers as people who have more or less in common in age and school who can broaden their views and influence the social development of adolescents, especially when a teenager will decide something regarding his education and career in the future. This study aims to describe the peer factor in influencing student interest in choosing a major in mathematics education. This research was conducted at IAIN Padangsidimpuan and the research participants were 25 students of the tadris/mathematics education study program at IAIN Padangsidimpuan.
