Abstract

This study discusses reducing nail-biting behavior using aversion technique for children with mild intellectual disabilities in Class III at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. The purpose of this study is to see whether the aversion technique can reduce nail-biting behavior in children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. This research was applied using a Single Subject (SSR) design type A-B, with the research subjects being children with mild intellectual disabilities in Class III at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. The variable tested in this study is the aversion technique as the independent variable, while nail-biting behavior is the dependent variable. Data were collected through direct observation, and the results were analyzed using visual graphics. The research results proved that the nail-biting behavior of children with mild intellectual disabilities reduced when applying the aversion technique, as seen from the comparison of values between the baseline condition (A) and the condition when the method was applied (B). Thus, the researchers concluded that the aversion technique can reduce nail-biting behavior in children with mild intellectual disabilities. This study has limitations in the limited number of subjects and the relatively short duration of the intervention, so the results cannot yet be generalized widely. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involves more subjects, extends the intervention time, and combines the aversion technique with other approaches to achieve more optimal results.

Abstract

This research is motivated by problems found in students with mild autism spectrum disorder in class II at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi who do not have the ability to understand the concepts of right and left directions. This study aims to improve the ability to understand spatial concepts using Sensory Path Space media. The research method used is a quantitative experimental method, specifically a Single Subject Research (SSR) design A-B. The subject of this study is a child with mild autism spectrum disorder at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi. Data were collected through action tests with visual graph data analysis, which served as the analysis within and between conditions. The research results indicate that the use of Sensory Path Space media can improve the ability to understand spatial concepts in children with autism spectrum disorder, as evidenced by an increase in scores from a stable baseline phase of 33.33% to 83.33% during the intervention phase. Nevertheless, this study has limitations because it involved only one subject, focusing on the concepts of right and left space, and the child's responses were not always consistent throughout the intervention process. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involves more subjects, expands the coverage of spatial concept material, and develops more innovative and adaptive learning media so that the research results can be more optimal and have broader generalizability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the validity and practicality test results that have been conducted regarding the EduAutism website. The method used in this study is the Research and Development method, guided by the Borg & Gall development model, which has been modified into 6 steps. The data collection technique uses a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis uses a quantitative approach. The data analysis technique is carried out quantitatively using the Likert scale, where the scores obtained are calculated and converted into percentages to determine the feasibility category. The results of this study include the website validity assessed by experts, with a final score averaging 81.3% in the very feasible category. Meanwhile, the practicality test conducted with parents of children with autism residing in Padang City obtained an average final result of 88.3% in the very feasible category. The implication of this research for the public is the availability of a validated one-stop digital information access to empower parents in performing appropriate early interventions and facilitate the community in accessing autism directory services in Padang City. Further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of the EduAutism website on a larger sample and to develop more comprehensive features, such as education, health services, and interactive forums, in order to enhance its usefulness for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of adaptive swimming instruction for students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Aisyiyah Sijunjung, focusing on the planning, implementation, and evaluation conducted by teachers, as well as the school’s support in meeting students’ learning needs. The study is motivated by the importance of adaptive physical education for students with special needs and the limited empirical research on swimming instruction in regional special schools. A qualitative descriptive approach was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations at the swimming pool, and document analysis of training programs, evaluation notes, and supporting archives. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model—data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing—with credibility ensured through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The findings show that teachers design instructional plans gradually based on students’ individual needs and apply adaptive strategies such as demonstrations, repetition, task analysis, prompting, and positive reinforcement. The teaching process is structured from opening to closing activities, with adjustments aligned to students’ motor and cognitive abilities. Evaluation is carried out continuously through baseline assessment, ongoing assessment, and outcome evaluation based on individual progress rather than competitive standards.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve hand–eye coordination skills in students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through the implementation of a ball throwing and catching game as a motor learning strategy at the foundational phase. The research was conducted at SLB Autis Bima Padang using a Classroom Action Research design consisting of two cycles, each comprising four instructional sessions. The research subjects were two students identified by the initials IN and GK. Data were collected through structured observation focusing on students’ hand–eye coordination performance during learning activities, while data analysis employed percentage techniques to identify improvements across cycles. The findings revealed a consistent increase in hand–eye coordination abilities in both students. The initial performance levels of students IN and GK were 39% and 44%, respectively. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, the scores increased to 59% for IN and 61.10% for GK. Further improvement was observed in Cycle II, where IN reached 70.31% and GK achieved 72.21%. The novelty of this study lies in the use of a systematically and progressively modified ball throwing and catching game as a simple, practical, and developmentally appropriate motor learning intervention tailored to the characteristics of students with ASD at the foundational phase.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the gross motor skills of a third-grade student with Down syndrome at a special primary school through the use of ecoprint media employing the pounding technique. The research applied a Single Subject Research (SSR) method with an A1–B–A2 design and was conducted at SLB YPPLB Padang. The research subject was one student with Down syndrome. The initial baseline phase (A1) was carried out over five sessions, showing gross motor skill achievement in the range of 15%–20%. The intervention phase (B), implemented for seven sessions using ecoprint media with the pounding technique, demonstrated a gradual improvement in gross motor skills, reaching 40%–100%. In the final baseline phase (A2), conducted over three sessions, the student’s gross motor skills stabilized at 100%. Data were collected through observation and analyzed using visual graph analysis. The findings indicate that ecoprint media with the pounding technique is effective in enhancing the gross motor skills of students with Down syndrome. The novelty of this study lies in the use of ecoprint as a creative and contextual sensorimotor learning medium that aligns with the learning characteristics of students with Down syndrome.
