Abstract

This research is motivated by problems found in students with mild autism spectrum disorder in class II at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi who do not have the ability to understand the concepts of right and left directions. This study aims to improve the ability to understand spatial concepts using Sensory Path Space media. The research method used is a quantitative experimental method, specifically a Single Subject Research (SSR) design A-B. The subject of this study is a child with mild autism spectrum disorder at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi. Data were collected through action tests with visual graph data analysis, which served as the analysis within and between conditions. The research results indicate that the use of Sensory Path Space media can improve the ability to understand spatial concepts in children with autism spectrum disorder, as evidenced by an increase in scores from a stable baseline phase of 33.33% to 83.33% during the intervention phase. Nevertheless, this study has limitations because it involved only one subject, focusing on the concepts of right and left space, and the child's responses were not always consistent throughout the intervention process. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involves more subjects, expands the coverage of spatial concept material, and develops more innovative and adaptive learning media so that the research results can be more optimal and have broader generalizability.

Abstract

The ability to recognize vowels is an important foundation in early reading skills, but students with intellectual disabilities still experience difficulties in understanding letter symbols and connecting them to nouns. This condition indicates the need for interactive, concrete learning media that are appropriate to the characteristics of student learning needs. This study aims to develop and test the validity and practicality of interactive reading room media in recognizing vowels in nouns for students with intellectual disabilities. The study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg and Gall model which is simplified into five stages, namely initial information collection, planning, initial product development, initial testing, and product revision. The trial subjects consisted of 5 students with intellectual disabilities, 3 teachers as media users, and 3 expert validators including media, material, and language experts. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed descriptively quantitatively in the form of percentages. The results showed that the media obtained a very high level of validity with an average score of 91.5% and a practicality level of 95.38%. These findings indicate that interactive reading room media is suitable for use as an alternative for early reading learning which is able to facilitate students in understanding vowels through a more interesting and easy-to-understand learning experience.

Abstract

The ability to memorize the Qur'an in children with mild intellectual disabilities faces obstacles in the aspects of memory, concentration, fluency, and accuracy of reading. This study aims to improve the ability to memorize the Qur'an through the application of the Kauny Quantum Memory method. The study used a quantitative approach with the Single Subject Research (SSR) method and an A–B design, consisting of 5 baseline sessions (A) and 8 intervention sessions (B). Data were collected through memorization ability tests covering aspects of memory, reading fluency, reading accuracy, and consistency of memorization. Data analysis was carried out visually by paying attention to the trend of direction and stability of the data in each phase. The results showed an increase in all aspects of memorization ability, namely memory by 75%, reading accuracy by 75%, reading fluency by 68.7%, and memorization consistency by 75%. The change in direction and better level of ability in the intervention phase compared to the baseline phase indicate that the application of the Kauny Quantum Memory method contributed to the improvement of the ability to memorize the Qur'an in the study subjects. These findings suggest that the method could be an alternative approach to learning to memorize the Qur'an for children with mild intellectual disabilities, although further research with broader subjects and research designs is needed to test the consistency of the findings
