This study aims to determine teachers' beliefs about teaching English at State Elementary Schools and the factors that shape teachers' beliefs about teaching English in State Elementary Schools. The type of research used in this study is qualitative descriptive research with the research subjects of English teachers in five State Elementary Schools in Polewali Mandar who teach English. The instruments used in this study were checklist observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings of the study indicate that teachers' beliefs about teaching English at State Elementary Schools that teach English in Polewali Mandar are predominantly using Body Movement Techniques to help these Elementary School children understand English vocabulary or commonly called the TPR (Total Physical Response) method. Teachers also have the belief that to teach English to Elementary School children is to use the PPP (Presentation, Practice, and Production) method, the next belief is that teachers carry out learning using the CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) method. The results of the study also show that there are two factors that shape teachers' beliefs about teaching English in five State Elementary Schools that teach English in Polewali Mandar. Both factors are in accordance with the theory of teacher cognition postulated by Borg (2006), two factors that are in accordance with this theory are the Schooling factor and the Classroom factor. Researchers did not find any other factors that shape the teacher's beliefs. The beliefs of these teachers are easily adjusted to the classroom context for the current elementary school level and there are no limitations to applying these beliefs to their classroom teaching practices, or there is no difference between teaching practices and the teacher's beliefs. This study explores the impact of an online-based hybrid learning model on students’ self-confidence in speaking English as a foreign language. Conducted at Universitas Negeri Makassar, the research involved 20 second-semester English education students enrolled in an Interactive Speaking course. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using NVivo software to uncover themes related to learners' confidence levels. The hybrid learning model integrated both synchronous platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp) and asynchronous tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Instagram, YouTube, SYAM-OK), offering students flexibility and multiple forms of engagement. Findings revealed three distinct self-confidence profiles among students high, moderate, and low. Students with high self-confidence reported enhanced participation and reduced anxiety due to the hybrid model's supportive structure. Those with moderate self-confidence highlighted the benefits of decreased social pressure and the ability to control their learning environment. In contrast, students with low self-confidence continued to struggle despite the flexible format, citing persistent fear of judgment and speaking errors. The study concludes that while online-based hybrid learning can effectively foster self-confidence in speaking for many students, it may not suffice for learners with deeply rooted anxiety. These findings underscore the need for tailored pedagogical strategies that combine technological affordances with targeted confidence-building interventions to ensure inclusive and effective language instruction.

This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Duolingo application in enhancing English vocabulary mastery among junior high school students and to assess their perceptions of the application after using it. The study adopted a quantitative approach, employing a cluster random sampling method and a pre-experimental design. The participants consisted of 22 students from grade 8B at SMP Negeri 3 Mare in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Data were obtained through pretests, posttests, and questionnaires that explored students' opinions about Duolingo. A t-test analysis with a significance level of 0.05 revealed a probability value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which was lower than the threshold. This led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). The findings concluded that the Duolingo application significantly improves students' vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, students' perceptions of the application were predominantly positive, with most respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing with the statements in the questionnaire.

This study focuses on students' perceptions of the questioning strategies employed by English teachers at SMPN 27 Makassar. Using qualitative methods, including observation and interviews with 20 students from two different classes, the research examines how students' perceptions influence their understanding, classroom engagement, and critical thinking. The findings indicate that most students hold a positive perception of the questioning strategies used by their teachers. They believe that these strategies help enhance their understanding of the material, foster deeper thinking, and encourage active participation in discussions. Students appreciate questions that require in-depth explanations and those that challenge them to connect new concepts with previously learned material. Many students also noted that the relevance of questions to the lesson content contributed to a more structured and focused learning experience. However, some students expressed the need for more time to think before answering more complex questions, highlighting the importance of pacing in effective questioning techniques. Despite occasional nervousness, students generally found the questioning process motivating, as it increased their confidence in responding and engaging with the class. The variety of questioning strategies used also created an inclusive learning environment, allowing students to feel comfortable and encouraged. Overall, students' positive perceptions underscore the importance of well-implemented questioning strategies in promoting a more interactive and productive learning environment.

This research aims to examine the influence of EFL students’ self-confidence and motivation on speaking performance. A quantitative approach with an ex post facto design was employed. The research population consisted of English Language Education students from Universitas Negeri Makassar, batch 2022, and cluster random sampling was used to select twenty-eight respondents. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and a speaking test. The data were analyzed using f-test statistic with a significant value of 0.05. The results of the data analysis revealed that the sig. value of f-test is .000 < 0.05, therefore the H1 is accepted, where there is a significant influence between self-confidence and motivation on speaking performance, and H0 is rejected. As a result, the research findings suggest several implications. Firstly, highlight the need for fostering a supportive and encouraging classroom environment. Secondly, incorporating students’ interests and real-life scenarios into the curriculum can increase their motivation. Thirdly, the research suggests that integrating activities that build both self-confidence and motivation into the EFL curriculum can lead to significant improvements in speaking performance.

The research aims to find out whether or not the outdoor learning method is effective in improving students’ English-speaking skills. The researcher applied the pre-experimental method, and to achieve the research objectives, data collection was conducted through a pre-test and a post-test. The population of this study is all of the year 10th of SMAN 7 Bulukumba students, and the sample of this study consisted of 35 students of class X.1 in that school was recruited with the cluster random sampling technique. After being analyzed with a T-Test, the results of the pre-test and post-test of students’ English-speaking skills through the outdoor learning method indicate that the probability value, which is 0.001, was significantly lower than the level of significance (0.05). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and after being analyzed with the N-Gain value, the results showed that the improvement that occurred in the speaking skills of the sample group was low. This implies that the outdoor learning method may need to be combined with other strategies to achieve better results, especially in improving students' speaking, and this method will be taken into consideration for teachers in designing more interesting and interactive learning activities. Therefore, it can be concluded that outdoor learning is effective in improving students' English-speaking skills.
