Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of Qur’anic School (TPQ) teachers (ustadz/ustadzah) in educational management that is both instructive and attentive to children’s mental-spiritual health, grounded in legal aspects of child protection. The program was implemented as a workshop for TPQ teachers in Kaliancar Village, Selogiri District, Wonogiri Regency, in 2026. Two facilitators, Ngatmin Abbas, M.Pd., and Luthfi Afandi, led sessions covering enjoyable Qur’anic teaching strategies, basic understanding of child mental health, the importance of spiritual nurturing, and dissemination of child protection laws. The workshop methods included interactive lectures, group discussions, simulations, and Q&A sessions. The results indicate high enthusiasm from the 25 participants. The TPQ teachers found it helpful to learn child-friendly teaching methods, techniques to maintain students’ motivation, early detection of children’s emotional issues, and the application of noble values in TPQ activities. Quantitative feedback showed 92% of participants reported improved understanding of effective TPQ management, 88% gained new knowledge on children’s mental health, and 100% agreed that spiritual values must be integrated into teaching and learning. Participants also appreciated the information on legal aspects, especially regarding children’s rights to education and protection from violence. In conclusion, the workshop effectively increased TPQ teachers’ knowledge and awareness of child-friendly Qur’anic teaching, the importance of students’ mental and spiritual health, as well as legal responsibilities in conducting religious education.

Abstract

This study is driven by the scarcity of research on the application of Buya Hamka’s concept of moral education within formal educational settings, despite its significant influence on adolescent moral development. The research aims to analyze the implementation of Buya Hamka’s moral values among Grade VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing this process. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the study involved purposively selected participants, including the principal, teachers, homeroom teachers, and students. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the internalization of moral values is manifested through the habituation of religious worship, the role-modeling of teachers, and structured religious programs that promote the virtues of wisdom (ḥikmah), self-restraint (‘iffah), courage (shajā‘ah), and justice (‘adl). Supporting factors include teacher exemplarity, parental involvement, and a conducive religious environment, while inhibiting factors comprise the lack of value reinforcement at home and negative influences from social media. The study affirms the continued relevance of Buya Hamka’s moral philosophy in addressing contemporary challenges in character education.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed learning practices in higher education, including the ways students access, process, and present academic knowledge. This study aims to examine institutional support for coding and AI learning, explore students’ perceptions of AI, analyze the transformation of students’ academic awareness amid the use of AI, and reconstruct its utilization within the framework of Islamic education and Islamic culture. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a survey design. The participants were 108 students from several private universities in Surakarta and its surrounding areas. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including tabulation, percentages, and contextual interpretation. The findings reveal that institutional support for coding and AI learning remains moderate, and students’ understanding of basic AI concepts is similarly moderate. At the same time, most students perceive AI as relevant in supporting academic work in logical, critical, and systematic ways. However, the use of AI cannot be separated from the need to strengthen academic ethics, critical literacy, and a culture of verification. This study concludes that Islamic education and Islamic culture provide an important normative foundation for directing the use of AI so that it serves not merely as a tool of technological efficiency, but also as a means of cultivating students’ critical, reflective, and morally responsible academic awareness.

It also investigated whether parental motivation was significantly associated with students’ academic achievement. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population consisted of 28 students, all of whom were selected through total sampling. Data on parental motivation were collected using a 30-item questionnaire, while academic achievement data were obtained from school records. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, normality and linearity tests, and simple linear regression. The results showed that parental motivation was in the moderate category, with a mean score of 130.54. Of the respondents, 67.9% reported moderate parental motivation, 17.9% high motivation, and 14.3% low motivation. Students’ academic achievement was also classified as moderate, with a mean score of 687.04. A total of 60.7% of students were in the moderate category, 21.4% in the high category, and 17.9% in the low category. The regression analysis produced a correlation coefficient of 0.268 and a coefficient of determination of approximately 7.2%. The model yielded an F-value of 2.010 with a significance level of 0.168. These findings indicate a weak positive relationship between parental motivation and academic achievement, but the relationship was not statistically significant. Students’ achievement may also be shaped by individual, pedagogical, social, and institutional factors.

Abstract

This study describes the role of the Muhammadiyah diaspora in supporting global Islamic education and spreading progressive Islamic values. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach through literature studies, by collecting data from various literature, official documents, and online databases, which were then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings show that the Muhammadiyah diaspora plays an active role in organizing formal, non-formal, and informal education that is adjusted to the social, cultural, and political situation of the community in the destination country. The da'wah strategy implemented includes academic, cultural, and digital approaches, so that the message of Islam that is moderate, inclusive, and contextual can be conveyed widely. On the other hand, they face challenges in the form of limited resources, differences of internal views, strict government policies against religious minority groups, and negative stigma against Islam in some countries. Nevertheless, the diaspora is able to maintain its identity by strengthening internal communication, fostering cadres in an ongoing manner, establishing cross-organizational cooperation, and adapting to local culture without ignoring the basic principles of Islam. This study concludes that the Muhammadiyah diaspora has succeeded in combining tradition and modernity in its role as an agent of spreading progressive Islam, as well as opening up space for further research on the contribution of the next generation of the diaspora in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between assertive behavior and learning outcomes in the Fiqh subject among tenth-grade students at MA Al-Islam Jamsaren, Surakarta. A quantitative correlational approach was used, involving the entire population (66 students) as the sample. Assertive behavior was measured using a validated questionnaire, while Fiqh learning outcomes were obtained from semester report card scores. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests (normality and linearity), and hypothesis testing with Pearson correlation. The results indicate that students’ assertive behavior is in the moderate category, with an average score of 125.03. The average Fiqh score is 79.83 (classified as good), with class X-1 having the highest mean (80.41). Pearson correlation testing yielded r = -0.315 with p = 0.010 (< 0.05), indicating a significant but weak relationship between assertive behavior and Fiqh learning outcomes. The relationship is negative, meaning higher assertiveness tends to be associated with slightly lower learning outcomes, although the correlation is relatively weak. These findings imply that students’ assertive behavior plays a role in the learning process, but its impact on Fiqh academic achievement is not strong. Teachers and schools are advised to continue fostering assertiveness through active learning strategies while also addressing other factors that may affect learning outcomes.

Abstract

Students’ moral development in Islamic educational settings is closely related to the habituation of worship practices, including fiqh thaharah and consistency in performing dhuha prayer. This study aims to examine the influence of fiqh thaharah practices and dhuha prayer consistency on the moral character of seventh-grade students at MTs Pondok Pesantren Darul Hijroh Canden during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative field research approach with an ex post facto correlational design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation using a saturated sampling technique. Data analysis involved descriptive and inferential statistics through multiple linear regression, supported by validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests. The findings indicate that fiqh thaharah practices and consistency in performing dhuha prayer positively and significantly influence students’ moral character, both partially and simultaneously. Students with stronger worship habituation tended to demonstrate better discipline, responsibility, and moral awareness. The study concludes that structured worship habituation contributes to strengthening students’ moral development in Islamic educational institutions. This study contributes to Islamic education and character education by providing empirical evidence on the role of religious practice habituation in shaping students’ moral character. The practical implication is that Islamic educational institutions should design systematic, consistent, and supervised worship habituation programmes to support sustainable character formation among students.
