Abstract

Indonesia has abundant natural resources, including valuable diamonds, greatly impacting its mining industry, economy, and other environmental and societal sectors. This research, conducted in Sungai Tiung Village, Cempaka Sub-district, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, explores how the use of natural resources, economic activities, and community resilience are interconnected by examining the enduring traditional mining practices in South Kalimantan, focusing specifically on diamond panning. Using qualitative research methods, this research collected comprehensive data through observations, interviews, and documentation involving key stakeholders such as miners, local communities, and government representatives. The analysis, which incorporates triangulation and expanded observations, reveals three key aspects of traditional mining patterns: the equipment used, the complexities of the work system, and how mining outcomes are shared. The findings highlight the resilience embedded in the traditional mining practices of diamond prospectors in South Kalimantan, showing how these practices influence work methods and reflect traditional community life, characterized by a cooperative and tolerant approach. As a result, this research deepens our understanding of diamond panning. It provides valuable insights into the relationship between traditional practices and the resilience of local communities on a broader scale.

Abstract

Strengthening historical thinking skills is needed in History subjects. This skill is eductive so that students can describe the chronology of events based on historical facts. Observations on subjects are needed to improve historical thinking skills, namely by implementing lesson study (ls) activities. This article aims to describe the strengthening of historical thinking in history learning through the LS activity of the Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA) model. The approach through the descriptive method is used in research. Three stages of data collection, namely; observation, interview, and documentation. Miles and Huberman's model is used for analyzing the saturation of the data obtained. Results describe students can demonstrate historical thinking skills by providing arguments during group discussions. The arguments are given to put forward the causal relationship (causality) in the sub-discussion ABRI's dual function. Transcript analysis of overall learning activities illustrates that there is a balance of conversation between teachers and students. This is because the learning conditions are conducive and teachers have no difficulty in increasing the participation of studentsKeywords; historical thinking, TBLA, and History learning

Abstract

Abstract: Implementation of Verified Containers Carried on Ships (Verified Gross Mass of Container) – VGM at Belawan Container Terminal (Research Team Supriadi and Christy Pongkessu). In an effort to improve shipping safety and minimize the risk of damage or accidents at sea due to load imbalance and overloading on ships, in May 2014 the International Maritime Organization - The Maritime Safety Committee (IMOMSC) has decided to approve changes to The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 Chapter VI Article 2 concerning the requirements for verifying the gross weight of containers (Verified Gross Mass of Container/ VGM). Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is validated container weight information using scales that have been certified and accounted for by a verifier. This study aims to determine the implementation and impact of the implementation of Verified Gross Mass (VGM) at Belawan Port. This research was conducted at Belawan Port located in Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia for 6 (six) months, namely from May to October 2023. The type of research used is qualitative research. Qualitative research methods are research methods based on the philosophy of postpositivism, data collection techniques with triangulation (combined), inductive/qualitative data analysis. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that Belawan Port has implemented the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) procedure in accordance with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations. This process involves verifying the gross weight of containers before loading onto ships using appropriate weighing equipment. The main impact of implementing Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is increasing the safety of container ship navigation. By ensuring the correct gross weight of containers, ports can prevent ship accidents caused by gross weight inaccuracies. Keywords: Shipping Safety, Containers, Verified Gross Mass

Abstract

Chicken eggs are a highly nutritious food, but they are prone to quality deterioration during storage due to physical and chemical changes. One effort to extend their shelf life is by using natural coating materials such as Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of VCO coating on the internal quality of chicken eggs during storage at room temperature. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with seven treatments and four replications, resulting in 28 experimental units. The treatments consisted of fresh eggs (control), uncoated eggs stored for 7, 14, and 21 days, and VCO-coated eggs stored for the same periods. The observed variables included Haugh Unit, egg weight, air cell size, albumen index, and yolk index. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and significant differences among treatments were further tested with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level. The results showed that VCO coating significantly preserved the internal quality of eggs compared to uncoated eggs. Eggs treated with VCO had higher Haugh Unit values, albumen and yolk indices, and experienced lower weight loss and air cell enlargement during storage. It can be concluded that coating eggs with VCO is a simple and effective method to maintain the quality of chicken eggs during storage at room temperature.

Abstract

Dental caries is a common oral health problem among elementary school children and is largely influenced by low levels of knowledge and improper tooth-brushing practices. This study aims to develop a digital picture storybook as an educational medium and to assess its feasibility and effectiveness in improving children’s knowledge of proper tooth-brushing techniques. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Product validation was conducted by material and media experts. Field testing was carried out with 30 students from grades III and IV at UPT SPF SDN Tamamaung, Makassar. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and paired t-test. Material expert validation yielded a feasibility score of 75.56% (feasible), while media expert validation resulted in a score of 83.75% (highly feasible). Students’ responses regarding the media’s appearance and attractiveness showed a score of 95.3% (highly feasible). Pre-test and post-test data were normally distributed (p>0.05). The paired t-test results indicated a significant increase in knowledge following the educational intervention using the digital media (p<0.001). These findings indicate that the developed digital picture storybook is not only feasible but also effective in improving elementary school students’ knowledge of proper tooth-brushing techniques.
