Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing car purchase decisions using binary logistic regression. Data were obtained from 1,000 respondents with independent variables including age, marital status, gender, car ownership, and income. The analysis results show that marital status, gender, and income significantly influence purchase decisions. Married respondents tend to have a lower likelihood of purchasing a car compared to single respondents, while females have a smaller tendency compared to males. On the other hand, higher income significantly increases the probability of car purchase. The constructed binary logistic regression model has a prediction accuracy of 93.8%, demonstrating its reliability in classifying purchase decisions. This study provides valuable insights for the automotive industry in designing effective and targeted marketing strategies. Additionally, further exploration of other factors such as brand preferences, geographic location, and psychological factors is recommended to enrich the understanding of automotive market behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect literacy rates in Indonesia using a robust regression approach. The data used included data from 34 provinces, focusing on the dependent variables, namely the literacy rate and the independent variables, namely the average length of schooling, the number of teachers, out-of-school children, PDRB per capita, and the number of poor people. The results of the analysis show the equation Y ?=97.7766-0.41220PCA1-0.2886PCA2-0.000002x_4. where PCA1 = a combination of X1 and X2 and PCA2 = a combination of X2 and X5. Every 1 unit increase in PCA1 will reduce the literacy rate by about 0.4120 or 41.2%, an increase of 1 unit of PCA2 will reduce the literacy rate by about 0.2886 or 28.86%, while in x_4 it only affects about 0.00022%. The number of children who do not attend school, children who drop out of school and the number of poor people can significantly increase the illiteracy rate. Efforts that can be made by the government are to facilitate education so that all groups can access education and educate the public that education is very important and will be the foundation of the nation and state in the future..

Abstract

Standard language is a variety of language that is accepted for use in official or formal situations. Standard language is the standard of communication used in the academic and professional world. Its use is important to ensure that the message conveyed is clear, formal, and in accordance with linguistic rules. However, in everyday life, students tend to use non-standard language more often in informal conversations, academic assignments, and discussions on campus. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive and inferential analysis methods to determine the effect of comfort, difficulty, and perception of the importance of standard language on the frequency of its use among Statistics students at Medan State University. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires to 50 Statistics students selected using simple random sampling techniques. This study aims to analyze the frequency of use of standard language among Statistics students at UNIMED and to see the effect of comfort, difficulty, and perception on its use. The results of the analysis show that the majority of students use standard language in the categories "Sometimes" to "Often", with male students tending to use it more often than female students.

Abstract

Background: Cancer is one of the diseases with a high mortality rate, so an accurate classification method is needed to support the diagnosis process. This study compares the performance of the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) method and Binary Logistic Regression in classifying cancer as malignant or benign. Methods: This study used a secondary dataset from Kaggle consisting of 569 cancer patient data with 11 independent variables covering tumor characteristics. The model was developed using data normalization, training and testing data division, and the K-Fold Cross Validation technique to optimize the K parameter in KNN. Model evaluation was carried out based on accuracy, precision, recall, and the McNemar and ANOVA tests to test the significance of differences in model performance. Results: The KNN model with K=13 showed an accuracy of 95.58%, a precision of 95.83%, and a recall of 97.18%, while Binary Logistic Regression had an accuracy of 94.69%, a precision of 92.86%, and a recall of 92.86%. The McNemar test results showed that there was no significant difference between the two models (p-value = 1), while the ANOVA results showed that all independent variables contributed to the model. Conclusion: Both methods performed well in cancer classification, but KNN with K=13 had a slight advantage in accuracy and recall compared to Binary Logistic Regression. The implementation of this model can support decision support systems in cancer diagnosis to improve the accuracy of classification results.

Abstract

This study employs Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) based on Theo van Leeuwen's model to examine the representation of social actors in Detik.com's news article titled "Muzani soal Demo 'Indonesia Gelap': Yang Prabowo Lakukan Timbulkan Kekagetan". The research focuses on the discursive strategies of exclusion (omission of actors) and inclusion (foregrounding of actors) to reveal how media framing shapes public perception of political events. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the analysis highlights three key findings: (1) The exclusion of demonstrators' voices and contextual background marginalizes their agency, reducing the event to a mere "surprise" narrative; (2) The dominant inclusion of Muzani's perspective positions him as an authoritative narrator, reinforcing a top-down interpretation of the protest; and (3) The portrayal of society as passive reactors (e.g., "kaget") rather than active participants reflects a power imbalance in media representation. The study underscores how Detik.com's linguistic choices—such as sensationalist diction ("kekagetan") and selective sourcing—construct a crisis-oriented discourse that aligns with elite political interests. These findings align with van Leeuwen's theory that media discourse reproduces social inequalities by privileging certain actors while silencing others. The research contributes to media literacy advocacy by revealing the ideological implications of news framing and calls for critical public engagement with online journalism.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the factors that influence students' ability to use Microsoft Word at Medan State University. Data was obtained through a questionnaire filled out by 30 students with questions related to ICT learning in high school, difficulties faced in using Microsoft Word, level of knowledge regarding important features of Microsoft Word, and the main obstacles in improving the ability to use this application. The method used is a descriptive quantitative method with frequency and percentage analysis. The research results show that the lack of ICT learning in high school (60%) is the main factor causing the lack of skills in using Microsoft Word. In addition, the majority of students admitted that they often faced difficulties in using this application, even though they felt they had a fairly good knowledge of its features. The main obstacle faced is the lack of technological facilities and time to practice. These findings indicate the need to increase ICT learning in high schools and provide adequate facilities in tertiary institutions.
