Abstract

Lung disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the community, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and lung disorders caused by exposure to air pollution and smoking. Most lung diseases develop slowly and often go undetected in the early stages because symptoms are still mild. Early screening through spirometry is a simple, non-invasive, and effective method for detecting impaired lung function early. This Community Service activity aims to conduct early screening for lung disease through spirometry and raise public awareness of the importance of lung health. Implementation methods include lung health education, spirometry examinations, interpretation of results, and health counseling. The activity results showed the detection of impaired lung function in some participants and increased public knowledge and awareness about early detection of lung disease. Spirometry screening is expected to be a preventive measure in reducing the burden of lung disease in the community.

Abstract

Chronic diseases require continuous, long-term treatment to control symptoms, prevent complications, and improve quality of life. However, adherence to therapy in patients with chronic diseases remains low due to a lack of understanding of medications, their side effects, and the importance of regular medication use. Medication counseling is an effective strategy for improving patient adherence to therapy. This Community Service program aims to improve knowledge and adherence in patients with chronic diseases through structured medication counseling. Implementation methods include individual education and counseling, interactive discussions, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. Results indicate increased patient knowledge regarding medication use and improved adherence to therapy after counseling. This program is expected to serve as a promotive and preventive effort in the management of chronic diseases in the community.

Abstract

Nutrition labels on food packaging are an important source of information for consumers in choosing healthy and safe foods. However, the public's lack of understanding of nutrition label information leads to errors in food product selection, potentially increasing the risk of non-communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. This Community Service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding nutrition labels on food packaging to support healthy food consumption behaviors. Implementation methods included educational outreach, interactive discussions, simulations of reading nutrition labels, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in public knowledge regarding nutrition label components, serving sizes, and nutrient content of packaged food products. This education is expected to encourage the public to make wiser food choices and support efforts to prevent non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

Miscarriage is one of the complications of pregnancy that still occurs frequently and can cause physical and psychological effects on mothers. Miscarriage prevention needs to be carried out by increasing pregnant women's knowledge about risk factors and the importance of early detection. This community service activity aims to increase pregnant women's knowledge about miscarriage prevention through health education and early detection of risk factors. The implementation methods include health counseling, interactive discussions, and basic examinations such as blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, and obstetric history. Evaluation is carried out using pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The results of the activity show an 85% increase in knowledge, as well as an increase in pregnant women's awareness of the importance of regular antenatal checkups. This activity is expected to contribute to reducing the incidence of miscarriage by increasing pregnant women's understanding and awareness of risk factors that can be prevented early on.

Abstract

Background: Antenatal Care (ANC) is a crucial effort to reduce maternal and infant mortality. However, in rural areas, pregnant women's compliance with ANC visits remains low. The Family Hope Program (PKH) is a conditional social assistance program that requires pregnant women to undergo prenatal checkups. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the Family Hope Program (PKH) on ANC visit compliance among pregnant women in rural areas. Methods: This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 120 pregnant women, both PKH recipients and non-recipients, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments were questionnaires and KIA (Maternal and Child Health) records. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between PKH participation and ANC visit compliance (p < 0.05). Pregnant women receiving PKH were more compliant with the minimum of four ANC visits as standard compared to pregnant women not receiving PKH. Regression analysis shows that pregnant women receiving the Family Hope Program (PKH) are 2.8 times more likely to be compliant with ANC visits than non-recipients. Conclusion: The Family Hope Program (PKH) has a positive effect on ANC visit compliance among pregnant women in rural areas.

Abstract

Background: Physiological labor is an ideal, normal delivery process without complications. However, its success is greatly influenced by the quality of midwifery care. The concept of Continuity of Care (CoC) emphasizes the provision of continuous care from pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Midwive’s competence in implementing CoC is believed to influence the success of physiological labor. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between midwives' competence in Continuity of Care and the success rate of physiological labor. Methods: This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 100 pregnant women assisted by midwives at primary health facilities in District X, selected using purposive sampling. Midwives' competence was measured using a valid and standardized questionnaire, while the success of physiological labor was recorded based on medical records. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between midwives' competence in Continuity of Care and the success of physiological labor (p < 0.01). Pregnant women cared for by midwives with high competence were 3.2 times more likely to experience a physiological birth than those cared for by midwives with low competence (OR = 3.2; 95% CI = 1.6–6.4). Conclusion: Midwive’s competence in implementing Continuity of Care positively influences the success of a physiological birth. Improving midwives' competence through training and coaching is an important strategy to support safe and physiological births.

Abstract

Background: As labor approaches, many pregnant women experience anxiety, which can affect the delivery process and the health of both mother and fetus. Midwifery telecounseling is an innovative maternal health service that allows pregnant women to receive education, emotional support, and remote monitoring. Objective: This study aims to analyze the impact of midwifery telecounseling on the anxiety levels of pregnant women approaching labor. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and a control group. The sample consisted of 60 pregnant women in their third trimester, divided into an intervention group (n=30) receiving midwifery telecounseling for 4 weeks, and a control group (n=30) receiving routine care. Anxiety levels were measured using the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Questionnaire (PRAQ) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. Results: The study showed that pregnant women who received midwifery telecounseling experienced a significant reduction in anxiety scores (pretest 35.6 ± 5.2; posttest 28.3 ± 4.7; p < 0.001), while the control group showed no significant change (pretest 34.9 ± 5.0; posttest 33.8 ± 5.1; p = 0.182). A posttest comparison between the intervention and control groups showed a significant difference (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Midwifery telecounseling effectively reduced maternal anxiety levels prior to delivery. Implementation of telecounseling services can be an important strategy in modern midwifery care.

Abstract

Background: Maternal anxiety during the first stage of labor can affect the course of labor, the duration of contractions, and fetal well-being. Non-pharmacological interventions such as aromatherapy are an option to reduce anxiety. The use of a digital diffuser as a medium for aromatherapy distribution provides a more even and consistent distribution of aroma. Objective: To determine the effect of digital diffuser aromatherapy on maternal anxiety levels during the first stage of labor. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. Forty mothers in the first stage of labor were divided into an intervention group (n=20) and a control group (n=20). The intervention group was given lavender aromatherapy via a digital diffuser for 15 minutes, while the control group received standard care. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The average anxiety score before the intervention in the intervention group was 25.4 (moderate category) and decreased to 14.2 (mild category) after the intervention (p < 0.05). The control group did not experience a significant decrease (from 24.8 to 23.9). The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Digital diffuser aromatherapy effectively reduces maternal anxiety levels during the first stage of labor. Healthcare providers are advised to use this method as a non-pharmacological complementary therapy in managing labor anxiety.

Abstract

Background: Pregnancy is a crucial period in a woman's life that requires special attention to maintain the health of both mother and fetus. Lack of knowledge and awareness regarding healthy prenatal care can increase the risk of complications, including anemia, hypertension, and premature birth. Objective: This study aims to identify healthy prenatal care practices, factors influencing maternal health, and develop evidence-based recommendations for pregnant women in Indonesia. Methods: This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with 20 pregnant women and five health workers in Sleman Regency, as well as literature review from national and international journals. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of care and determinants of maternal health. Results: The study identified five main aspects of healthy prenatal care: (1) implementing a balanced, nutritious diet, (2) routine prenatal checkups at least six times during pregnancy, (3) light physical activity and adequate rest, (4) social and emotional support from the family, and (5) increasing health education through medical personnel and digital media. These five aspects contribute significantly to reducing the risk of pregnancy complications. Conclusion: Healthy pregnancy care requires a synergy between medical knowledge, social support, and a healthy lifestyle. Collaboration between health professionals, families, and the government is needed to strengthen the community-level education system for pregnant women.
