This research aims to determine factors affecting students’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in learning English at SMPIT Al-Fityan School Gowa. The researcher applies mixed-methods research to achieve the research objectives. The data was collected in the form of a questionnaire and an interview. The subjects of this study were eighth-grade students of SMPIT Al-Fityan School Gowa. The sample of the questionnaire had 52 students and the interviews were with 6 students who were taken using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the data analysis showed that students of SMPIT Al-Fityan School Gowa have high motivation and the dominant affecting factor of students’ motivation in learning English at SMPIT Al-Fityan School Gowa is intrinsic motivation. The intrinsic factors that affect students’ motivation are curiosity, control, competition, and cooperation.

This research aimed to determine whether the use of the Plotagon Application is effective in enhancing students’ English Presentation skills. The researcher used a pre-experimental as a research design. This research focuses on a single group pre-test and post-test which asks students to present in front of the class on the topic of daily activities. This research was conducted at SMP Telkom Makassar in the eighth grade with a total population of 230 students. The sample was class VIII B with a total of 30 students selected using a random sampling technique. The findings from this study showed that the mean score of pre-tests was 68.11 and post-test was 84.55, this means that the score was increased after the sample received treatment and based on the paired sample on sig. value (2-tailed) was 0.00 < 0.05. It can be concluded that the use of the Plotagon application is effective in enhancing students' English presentation skills.

This research aims to find out students' perceptions of difficulties, advantages and disadvantages in using ChatGPT and how ChatGPT enhance students' English writing ability. The subject of this research was five English students of Universitas Negeri Makassar. The interview was used as the main instrument to collect the data. The results of this research showed that all five subjects experienced an improvement in their writing ability, especially in terms of improving vocabulary, structure, grammar, explaining ideas well, reviewing and correcting, where this was due to ChatGPT helping them in a way that when the subjects asked something, ChatGPT would immediately provide explanations and examples. However, the level of improvement varies depending on how often and consistently it is used. This research contributes to the understanding of how ChatGPT improves writing skills. Essentially, the findings focus on students' perceptions of using ChatGPT as a writing aid. Although the results of this study emphasize more on students' understanding and subjective views, teachers can consider the application of ChatGPT to support the learning process.

This study explored students’ perceptions of the flipped classroom model in English teaching at SMAN 3 Sinjai. The flipped classroom, an innovative teaching approach, encourages students to study learning materials before class, enabling active participation during in-class sessions. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with 12 students and classroom observations. Findings revealed that students generally had positive perceptions of the flipped classroom. They appreciated its flexibility, prior access to materials, and opportunities for interactive discussions. However, challenges such as technological barriers, lack of direct support at home, and varying levels of student motivation were also noted. The study highlights the need for strategies to address these challenges and maximize the benefits of the flipped classroom in enhancing English learning outcomes.

This study was carried out to investigate the types of students’ speaking anxiety in EFL classroom. This research used qualitative descriptive research. The subject of this study was six students from the third semester of the English Education Department Class C batch 2021, State University of Makassar. They were recruited using a purposive sampling technique. This study used observation and interview as the research instruments. The interview was used to determine the types of students’ speaking anxiety in EFL classroom and the observation was used to support the interviews’ data. It is concluded that oral presentation, limited vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, lack of preparation, and lecturer’s personality and attitudes were the main factors that contributed to students’ speaking anxiety in EFL classroom. The results of this study established that most students experienced test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation as the types of their speaking anxiety.

The research aimed to determine whether or not using mind mapping with the Text Twist game improves students' vocabulary. Pre-experimental design was employed by the researcher. The current research focuses on a pre-test and post-test for a single group that consists of 40 multiple-choice vocabulary questions. There were 143 students enrolled in the eighth grade at UPT SPF SMP Negeri 47 Makassar when this research took place. Applying the purposive sampling technique, a total of 36 students from class VIII/4 were used for the sample. The researcher analyzed the data quantitively by using SPSS 25. According to the research's findings, the sample's mean score before treatment was 62.152, while the mean score after treatment was 83.333. The paired sample's two-tailed significance value was 0.00 < 0.05. We can conclude that the mind-mapping method used in the text twist game effectively improved students’ vocabulary.

This research was conducted to find out the effectiveness of the problem-solving strategy in improving students’ speaking skills at SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa. The research design used a pre-experimental quantitative method. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Sungguminasa with a population of 311 students from class IX and a sample of 31 students selected from class IX-D, which was taken by simple random sampling. The results showed that the null hypothesis (H0), which states that the problem-solving strategy does not significantly improve students' English-speaking skills, is rejected. In contrast, the alternative hypothesis (H1), which states that the problem-solving strategy significantly improves students' English-speaking skills, is accepted. From this statement, it can be summarized that the problem-solving strategy has significantly improved students’ English-speaking skills. This improvement was seen in five main components: vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension when presenting arguments.

This research explores the effectiveness of using English podcasts to support the enhancement of speaking skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Makassar, this study adopted a quantitative pre-experimental approach that involved conducting a pre-test., a treatment phase, and a post-test, with the participation of 44 students from class VIII.3. The results showed notable improvements in both vocabulary acquisition (N-Gain = 0.62) and grammar mastery (N-Gain = 0.51). Statistical analysis through paired sample t-tests confirmed that these improvements were significant (p < 0.05). These outcomes support prior research highlighting the benefits of podcasts in fostering engaging and interactive language learning. The study concludes that English podcasts offer valuable exposure to authentic language use, making them a powerful resource for developing speaking skills. It suggests that teachers integrate podcasts into their instructional methods to increase student motivation and language competence. It is suggested that future studies explore the lasting impacts and wider implementation of podcasts across various educational settings.
