Abstract

This study aims to develop an image card-based learning media using a differentiated learning design to improve the speaking skills of first-grade students at Sekolah Indonesia Riyadh. The research adopted the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The developed media consists of image cards with various themes supporting speaking skill development, such as recognizing objects, naming colors, and role-playing. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with a pretest-posttest design to measure the improvement in students' speaking abilities before and after the intervention. A total of 20 first-grade students participated in the study, consisting of an equal number of boys and girls aged 6–7 years. The development results show that this learning media has a very high validity with a score of 86.66%, which falls under the very valid category based on assessments from media and content experts. The practicality of the media received excellent feedback, with a 100% rating from teachers indicating that it is easy to use and effective in the learning process. The effectiveness of this media was measured by the improvement in pretest and posttest scores, with the average pretest score of 54.7, while the posttest score increased to 85.0, with an N-Gain of 0.80, indicating very effective results. However, the study was limited to a small sample within a single school, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the image card-based learning media with a differentiated learning design is proven to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing the speaking skills of first-grade students at Sekolah Indonesia Riyadh. Therefore, the use of this media can be applied more broadly in other classrooms to support the optimal development of students' speaking skills.

Abstract

Picture Series is a collection of images arranged sequentially according to the storyline. This study aims to develop a learning media for the Love Indonesia material to improve writing skills for Grade 5 elementary school students. This research applies the ADDIE development model, consisting of several stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This study produced a learning media assessed by two validators: a material expert, who gave a score of 92%, and a media expert, who gave a score of 94%, both of which fall under the "very feasible" category. The students’ responses were obtained through three stages of trials: the individual trial, which scored 95%; the small group trial, which scored 94%; and the large group trial, which scored 86% — all categorized as "very valid." These results indicate that the development of this picture series-based learning media is feasible to be implemented in classroom learning activities.

Abstract

This research aims to develop video learning to recognize vowel letters through sign language with an approach that is suitable for children with kinesthetic learning styles, who often experience difficulties in the traditional learning process. This research draws on multiple learning intelligences, particularly kinesthetic intelligence, which emphasizes that children learn best through physical activity. The research method follows the ADDIE model, which includes the steps of needs analysis, content design, video development, implementation, and evaluation, to ensure that the final product meets the criteria of effective learning. Based on unstructured interview data, teachers emphasized the importance of the specific features of letters. The implementation of this method was indicated to be successful, showing that 83.33% of students from groups A1 and A2 made significant progress in recognizing vowel letter sounds, with an average n-gain of 0.81 (A1) and 0.83 (A2). Although there were challenges for 20% of students in the speed of letter shape recognition and imitation, these results support the need for a diverse and inclusive approach to learning. The research recommends collaborative learning strategies for children who struggle with letter recognition and emphasizes the importance of using methods that support all learning styles. The implications of the findings lie in developing more effective learning media, encouraging active and interactive learning that strengthens children's literacy and communication skills. The originality of this research lies in the integration of Indonesian letter sounds, the use of sign language and the learning steps of kinesthetic children. This research makes the subject matter more accessible to children with kinesthetic learning styles and makes a significant contribution to modern learning methodologies

Abstract

Storytelling skills are essential components of oral communication that reflect a student’s ability to convey ideas effectively, creatively, and engagingly. This study aimed to identify the initial profile of storytelling skills among sixth-grade students (n=26) at SDN Ploso V/176 in Surabaya. The research employed a qualitative descriptive design using structured observations as the primary method of data collection. Twenty-six students participated as research subjects. The observation instrument assessed five key indicators: fluency in conveying story content, appropriate sentence intonation, facial expression and body movement, speech articulation, and clarity of voice volume. The findings revealed that, overall, the storytelling skills of the students were categorized as "fair" with an average score of 66. The highest performance was observed in the "voice volume" indicator (score: 73), while the lowest was in "facial expression and body movement" (score: 60). These findings highlight the need for targeted instructional strategies that can enhance nonverbal communication aspects such as expression and body language. Additionally, the study serves as a reference for future research to explore interventions that improve oral literacy skills in primary education. A key limitation of this study is its focus on a single school, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. The study provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers in designing more inclusive and engaging learning environments that foster oral literacy and student confidence.

Abstract

The curriculum changes are intended to have a positive impact on the educational system in Indonesia. Through the Merdeka curriculum, learning focuses on the main materials, character development, and students' skills. One of the skills that requires creativity and high-level thinking skills is writing. Advanced writing skill aims to enable students to express their ideas and feelings in written form systematically and develop their creative ideas more broadly, clearly, and integratively. Various types of text are studied at elementary school by considering linguistic rules. This study aims to 1) analyze advanced writing skills of 5th-grade students, and 2) analyze difficulties faced by 5th-grade students in advanced writing. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze students' advanced writing skills. Subjects in this study were 5th-grade students and teachers in Gresik Regency. Moreover, the data collection techniques were tests and interviews. The results of the study showed that 5th-grade students are able to write essays or writings. However, aspects that must be considered include linguistic rules (spelling, sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation), diction, coherence between sentences, and abilities in developing ideas or concepts based on something that has not been experienced before. It can be concluded that 5th-grade students have writing skills, but writing procedures and linguistic rules still require greater attention, which must be followed up in line with curriculum changes that are adaptive and relevant to current developments.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the integration of the Reading Workshop model and the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) approach in enhancing reading literacy among elementary school students. Utilizing the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research analyzed seven peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2024 that focused on the development of reading literacy in primary education settings. The findings reveal that the Reading Workshop model, when combined with SRL strategies, significantly improves students' reading comprehension, autonomy, and motivation to read. This integrative approach supports students in setting reading goals, monitoring their comprehension, and reflecting on their reading practices. Additionally, the literature indicates that the incorporation of digital media, culturally responsive materials, and differentiated instruction further enhances literacy outcomes. Particularly, strategies such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) enable teachers to tailor reading instruction to students’ actual reading levels, addressing diverse learning needs. In the context of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia, which promotes personalized and inclusive education, the application of SRL-based Reading Workshop becomes highly relevant. Moreover, embedding local cultural values within reading materials fosters a deeper emotional connection and cultural awareness among students, enriching their overall literacy experience. The review concludes that an integrative literacy instruction model combining Reading Workshop and SRL, enriched by digital tools and contextualized content, is effective in addressing the challenges of reading literacy in elementary education. Future studies are encouraged to develop and empirically test instructional designs that operationalize this integration in classroom settings.
