Abstract

Current research suggests a possible connection between social capital and its effect on self-reported health. However, this relationship has not been extensively studied in urban and rural regions of Indonesia. This research aimed to evaluate the differences in sociodemographic factors, social capital, and self-rated health between rural and urban populations and to identify sociodemographic and social capital elements related to self-rated health in the urban and rural areas of Sumatra Utara Province, Indonesia. This study makes use of secondary data from the Happiness Level Measurement Survey Report 2021. A two-stage, one-phase sampling method was employed for sample selection. The Chi-square test was utilized to examine the distribution of factors related to respondents in both urban and rural settings. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was conducted to determine associations with self-rated health. Our findings indicate that rural inhabitants exhibit a higher rate of poor self-rated health compared to their urban counterparts (p-value<0.001). Significant differences were observed between urban and rural areas in terms of sex, education, trust, social participation, and feelings of safety. The multivariable Cox regression analysis revealed that being younger, having higher education, possessing greater trust, and engaging in high social participation was associated with a lower risk of poor self-rated health for both urban and rural residents. Consequently, trust and social participation could reduce the occurrence of poor self-rated health.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health concern, causing numerous deaths worldwide. Approximately 1.13 billion people suffer from hypertension, with an estimated 10.44 million deaths annually due to hypertension and its complications. This study aims to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and actions taken by hypertensive patients in Bukittinggi City. The research was conducted in the Mandiangin Health Center Working Area, involving 17 hypertension patients, one officer responsible for the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) program, and the head of the community health center. This qualitative study used a phenomenological approach, identifying three main themes: knowledge, attitude, and action. The sub-themes include "awareness of hypertension diagnosis," "emotional response to diagnosis," "hypertension management efforts," and "support from health workers." Findings indicate that most patients were unaware of their hypertension diagnosis until they experienced symptoms or were screened during routine checkups. The dominant hypertension management strategies involved seeking treatment at the community health center and maintaining dietary modifications. This study highlights the experiences of hypertensive patients in improving knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral strategies for better hypertension control.

Abstract

English as a foreign language (EFL) writing is one of the most important skills besides speaking for candidate teachers in the undergraduate English programs at higher institutions. The current study hypothesizes that pair-reviews or collaboration in the teaching and learning process of paragraph writing contributes to students successful language development. The subject of the study was a class (N=28) of third-semester students majoring in English language teaching at the Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training of Universitas Islam Negeri Imam Bonjol in Padang, Indonesia. The students writing skills were developed through exposure to actual writing by introducing paragraph developments. Through the process of planning and writing, they were guided to the use of pair-reviews. After a training period, they were tested for the final exam, in which no review was allowed. The study found that students writing competence as the result of pair-reviews varied depending on the type of paragraphs being developed. The students average score was 73.5 in the illustration type, 78.28 in the comparison type, and 71.96 in the categorization type. In general, students average scores during this pair-review were 74.58. In the post-test, students average score was 79.3, indicating that pair-reviews significantly affect their writing competence. A conclusion was drawn regarding the influence of pair-reviews on their final writing product (post activity). The study further elaborates on the activities during pair-reviews, roles, and the practice of collaboration in Minangkabau culture and traditions in Padang.

Abstract

R is a programming language, open-source, developed by various of the world's most active statisticians with powerful function and visualization for data analysis from simple to complex data such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Data visualization technologies have the ability to assist public health professionals with decision-making. Visualization appears to help decision making by increasing the quantity of information communicated and reducing the cognitive and intellectual strain of processing information. There are numerous commercially available statistical software packages that are widely utilized by epidemiologists worldwide. For industrialized nations, the price of software is not a significant issue. However, for underdeveloped nations, the true expenses are frequently excessive. Some academics in developing nations rely on software that has been illegally copied a copy of the software program. There are several benefits to using R, including the possibility of using software packages for free (open source) and the volume and availability of software packages. It is simple to retain and repeat commands on the same data analysis with multiple data frames, facilitating the work of health monitoring officers who frequently analyze data with similar variables but at different times.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the proportion of mother who delivered by professional birth attendant is still low. The Antenatal Care (ANC) can be used to motivate mothers to have delivery assisted by health personnel birth attendant. The objective of this study is to know the role of ANC and counselling on birth delivery choice. This study used a secondary data from the Evaluation on Benefit of Family Health Nutrition (FHN) Project, which was conducted in five provinces in Indonesia. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regressions method. The effect of ANC on birth attendant choice was measured using association measurement of odd ratio. The study showed that mothers who had four times or more ANC had 2.0 times higher chance to have delivery assisted by professional birth attendant than mothers who had less than 4 times ANC, after adjusted for mother’s characteristics (family income, education and occupation of household’s head), (ORadj = 2.1, 95% CI: 1.4-3.0). Mothers who got counselling were delivered by professional birth attendant 3.7 times higher than non counselled mother (OR adj = 3.7, 95% CI: 2.4-5.7). The ANC alone was not sufficient to increase the number of mother who delivered by professional birth attendant, the ANC should be complemented by counselling about pregnancy, birth attendance, breast feeding, and suggestion to have delivery assisted by professional birth attendant.
