Abstract

The phenomenon of food vloggers sharing their culinary experiences through videos presents an interesting area for sociopragmatic studies. This research focuses on understanding the social interactions and pragmatic contexts within food vlogging content. Specifically, the study aims to map the development of sociopragmatic research on the YouTube platform in relation to food vlogging. Using qualitative methods and bibliometric analysis, this study identifies and analyzes publications related to sociopragmatics and food vlogging from electronic databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Keywords such as "sociopragmatics," "food vlogging," and "YouTube" were used to gather relevant data. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software, enabling the processing and visualization of data in this field. The findings indicate a growing interest in food vlogging as a research subject, although studies explicitly examining sociopragmatic aspects remain limited. These findings highlight opportunities for in-depth research on sociopragmatic aspects, such as the use of speech acts, politeness in language, vloggers' communication strategies, interactions between vloggers and viewers, the construction and negotiation of social identities in vlog content, and the reflection of cultural values and social norms in social media interactions, particularly on YouTube.

This study aims to show what kind of speech acts significantly influence the emergence of Schadenfreude and describe the kinds of Schadenfreude that often occur from these speech acts.Methodology-The type of research that was conducted is qualitative research with a phenomenological design. Researchers apply MDAP (Manual Data Analysis Procedure) to analyze data sources to become data. MDAP, or Manual Data Analysis Procedure, is a qualitative research data analysis method that helps researchers analyze their research data.Findings-From the results, a picture of the Schadenfreude phenomenon is formed by perlocutionary speech acts. Any Schadenfreude in perlocutionary speech acts will be able to trigger responses from other students to join in making fun of what is being discussed. The most common types of Schadenfreude are compensation and Aggression. Compensation because they both feel the same difficulty at the same time. Aggression occurs because they are in the same group or want to try to be accepted by others, so they do the same thing: Schadenfreude.Signifinace-It can be seen that Schadenfreude is related to bullying. The factors that cause bullying are internal factors (mental and emotional health, such as high and low empathy, for example, Schadenfreude) and external factors (family, peers, school (one of which is the school climate, and the surrounding area). Keywords: Schadenfreude Speech acts WhatsApp groups Phenomenology MDAP (Manual Data Analysis Procedure)

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of Islam in European Parliament sessions using the Europarl 3: German corpus, focusing on collocations related to Islam to understand their associated sentiments and semantic distributions. Political discourse plays a critical role in shaping public perceptions, and Islam is often framed within the context of security and conflict in contemporary European narratives. This study aims to explore two key aspects: (1) the sentiments associated with collocations related to Islam in European Parliament sessions, and (2) the semantic categorization of these collocations within the corpus. Using collocation and concordance analysis via Corpus Query Processing (CQP), the study finds that themes with absolute negative sentiments are predominantly associated with the term Terrorismus 'terrorism,' which is frequently linked to Islam. However, some other collocations reveal variations in sentiment, including the presence of limited but notable positive sentiments. The study also categorizes these collocations into semantic groups based on established corpus linguistics frameworks, identifying patterns of representation that indicate bias in political discourse toward Islam. These findings highlight the securitization of Islam in political narratives, which may reinforce negative stereotypes and contribute to social polarization. Nevertheless, the existence of references with positive sentiments suggests opportunities to promote more balanced and constructive discourse. This study underscores the importance of inclusive political language to foster social cohesion. Future research is recommended to expand the corpus to other languages, conduct longitudinal analyses, and further explore positive narratives related to Islam to achieve a more balanced political discourse in Europe

Abstract

Language serves as a strategic tool for managing legal and emotional pressures during trials. This study focuses on the use of the phrases "tidak tahu" and "saya rasa" in Richard Eliezer's testimony in the Brigadier J case, reflecting defensive communication strategies. The issues examined are how these phrases are used to evade legal responsibility and how emotional pressure influences speech patterns. Using a descriptive quantitative and qualitative approach, the results indicate that the phrase “tidak tahu" (used 41 times) is employed to avoid accountability, while "saya rasa" (used 4 times) reflects subjective opinions aimed at risk mitigation. These findings reveal a close relationship between the emotional pressure experienced by the witness and their language choices, as well as the importance of linguistic analysis in understanding legal communication.

Abstract

The language used as a medium of communication for someone to convey ideas or thoughts must pay attention to the norms, situations, and conditions of the language being spoken. Because inaccuracy in using language often triggers conflict in certain communities. This can be influenced by the development of language and culture such as the emergence of taboo words that are not appropriate in using and interpreting them. In the upload of the YouTube channel "Yowis Ben 2" describes a dialogue between two characters discussing taboo words in their daily speech and there is a new meaning expressed by the character. The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of taboo words in East Javanese dialogue in the YouTube clip "Yowis Ben 2". This study uses a qualitative sociopragmatic approach with text analysis methods and the content of YouTube broadcasts. The data collection technique used is the technique of listening, speaking, and taking notes, then narrated and documented. Based on the results of the study, the use of taboo words in East Javanese dialogue on the YouTube channel "Yowis Ben 2" starring Bayu Skak and Anya Geraldine. The words 'jancuk' and 'barokokok' were found. The word, which was originally a taboo word, has now changed its meaning to be positive, namely expressing the expression of the heart, cultural expression in behavior, and containing hyperbolic meaning. The expression is used only in certain circles who understand the function of the words 'jancuk' and 'barokokok'. In its use, it must be accompanied by a supportive expression, namely a smiling, happy, and amazed face and the tone of voice should not be high when the word 'jancuk' is said. This is what distinguishes the expression of the word 'jancuk' from the meaning of the taboo word that has been understood so far and it can be concluded that the word 'jancuk' becomes a positive word when its use is in accordance with the criteria that have been explained.

Abstract

This research highlights the crucial role of governors as regional leaders in conveying messages and policies to the community, especially through opinions published in the mass media. The focus on the use of formal and informal language in the governor's communication, as well as the analysis of sentence patterns in the opinion of the Governor of East Java in the November 25, 2023 edition of Jawa Pos are the main objectives of this study. Content analysis methods are used to evaluate opinion texts, examine sentence types, sentence patterns, and formal and informal language usage. The results showed the dominance of the use of active voice in the governor's opinion, indicating awareness of the subject as the main actor in the message conveyed. Common sentence patterns such as KSPO and SPK are often used, but there are also variations of other patterns that provide a broader dimension in communication. There is also a unique blend of formal and informal language in the governor's text, creating a more personal atmosphere and connecting with the audience more thoroughly. However, the study has limitations, especially in the overall representation of the governor's communication style that may not include all communication strategies in different situations. In conclusion, the study reveals complexity and variation in language use and sentence patterns in governors' opinions.

Abstract

In the context of the 2024 presidential election campaign, the proliferation of memes as a medium of public and supporter expression has become increasingly prominent. Memes serve as a vehicle for political commentary, often reflecting public sentiment and opinion. However, a significant concern arises from the pervasive use of linguistic impoliteness within these memes. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of linguistic impoliteness in memes related to the 2024 presidential election. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, data were collected from a variety of meme images sourced from the internet. The analysis reveals that linguistic impoliteness in these memes manifests in several forms, including bald on-record impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, sarcasm, and the withholding of politeness. These forms of impoliteness not only reflect the aggressive nature of political discourse but also have the potential to incite conflict among different political factions. The findings suggest a need for more responsible meme usage, particularly in politically charged contexts, to foster a healthier and more constructive political dialogue. The study concludes that while memes are a powerful tool for political expression, their potential to exacerbate tensions should not be overlooked. Implications for future research include exploring strategies for mitigating the negative impact of impoliteness in online political communication.
