Abstract

This study explores and analyzes the use of figurative language in the novel Dilan: He Was My Dilan in 1990 by Pidi Baiq through a stylistic approach. The main focus lies in identifying the types of tropes employed in the narrative text and examining their function in constructing meaning, character development, and aesthetic value in popular literature. A qualitative approach is applied using a descriptive-analytic method, with textual analysis of relevant quotations containing stylistic devices. The data are categorized into four major groups of figurative language: comparison, contradiction, association, and repetition. The analysis reveals that Pidi Baiq creatively utilizes various figures of speech such as metaphor, personification, hyperbole, irony, synecdoche, epizeuxis, and euphemism in his storytelling to produce a distinctive, emotional, and communicative narrative style. These stylistic elements not only enhance the literary aesthetics but also strengthen the identity of the main character as a poetic and humorous teenager, establishing intimacy with the target readers. The findings affirm that language in popular fiction carries high stylistic potential and is worthy of linguistic-literary investigation to enrich the understanding of language dynamics and meaning-making in contemporary literary works.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penurunan kompetensi dalam pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di Australia menjadi perhatian dalam kerangka kerja sama bilateral di bidang pendidikan antara Indonesia dan Australia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa dan budaya Indonesia pada siswa di dua sekolah di Canberra, yaitu Burgmann Anglican School dan Trinity Christian School, melalui lokakarya kolaboratif. Lokakarya ini melibatkan 112 siswa kelas 3-5 di Burgmann Anglican School dan 310 siswa kelas 6-8 di Trinity Christian School. Diselenggarakan oleh empat program studi dari Universitas Negeri Jakarta—S1 Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia, S1 Sastra Inggris, S1 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, dan S1 Pendidikan Seni Tari—serta Program Studi S2 Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia, lokakarya ini menekankan pada pembelajaran interaktif melalui multimedia, lokakarya tari, serta permainan edukatif dengan tema cerita rakyat "Lutung Kasarung." Tujuan utamanya adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Indonesia dan minat siswa dalam mempelajari bahasa serta budaya Indonesia. Evaluasi melalui survei menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kompetensi bahasa Indonesia dan pemahaman lintas budaya. Hasil ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya pendekatan pendidikan berbasis budaya dalam memperkuat hubungan bilateral dan pelestarian bahasa di tingkat sekolah dasar. Abstract: Declining competence in Indonesian language learning in Australia is a concern within the framework of bilateral cooperation in education between Indonesia and Australia. This study aimed to improve Indonesian language and cultural competence in students at two schools in Canberra, Burgmann Anglican School and Trinity Christian School, through collaborative workshops. The workshops involved 112 students in grades 3-5 at Burgmann Anglican School and 310 students in grades 6-8 at Trinity Christian School. Organised by four study programmes from Universitas Negeri Jakarta - Bachelor of Indonesian Language and Literature, Bachelor of English Literature, Bachelor of English Language Education, and Bachelor of Dance Education - as well as the Master of Indonesian Language Education Study Programme, the workshop emphasised interactive learning through multimedia, dance workshops, and educational games with the folklore theme of ‘Lutung Kasarung’. The main objective was to improve students' Indonesian language skills and interest in learning Indonesian language and culture. Evaluation through surveys showed significant improvements in Indonesian language competence and cross-cultural understanding. These results underscore the importance of a culture-based education approach in strengthening bilateral relations and language preservation at the primary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the ideology embedded in the folk tale scrapbook of Timun Mas and Buto Ijo through the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach based on Norman Fairclough's model. Folk tales, as a form of cultural narrative, not only convey moral messages but also represent social constructions, power relations, and ideological values that exist within society. Using Fairclough's three-dimensional analysis (text, discourse practice, and social practice), this research explores how the visuals and narrative in the scrapbook reflect and reproduce certain ideologies, such as the relationship between power and bravery, the representation of female characters, and moral antagonism. The analysis results show that the text structure and visual elements in the scrapbook contribute to a re-interpretation of gender roles, power dominance, and resistance through the symbolism of the Timun Mas character. This study emphasizes the importance of a critical reading of culture-based learning media in revealing the hidden ideologies that shape the way young people think. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan bahan ajar, mengembangkan bahan ajar dan menguji kelayakan serta efektivitas bahan ajar menyimak teks prosedur berbasis QR-Code untuk peserta didik Slow Learner di sekolah inklusi DKI Jakarta yaitu SMPN 102 Jakarta. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) dengan model pengembangan 4D (Define, Design, development dan Dissemination) dari Thiagarajan, yang dalam penelitian ini hanya sampai tahap 3 yaitu Development. Pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Guru setuju untuk dilakukannya pengembangan bahan ajar khususnya keterampilan menyimak teks prosedur untuk menunjang pembelajaran peserta didik Slow Learner; (2) Kelayakan dari bahan ajar menyimak teks prosedur berbasis QR Code berdasarkan validasi ahli materi sebesar 90% dengan kriteria layak, validasi ahli media sebesar 92,5% dengan kriteria layak, validasi ahli bahasa sebesar 97,5% dengan kriteria layak, hasil uji coba produk untuk guru sebesar 92,5% dengan kriteria layak, dan hasil uji coba produk untuk peserta didik 88,75% dengan kriteria layak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahan ajar menyimak teks prosedur berbasis QR Code untuk peserta didik Slow Learner layak digunakan sebagai buku pendamping bagi guru dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) determine the integration of politeness of language of grade X high school students during debate learning in class. (2) determine the factors that influence politeness of language in debate practice in grade X students of SMAIT Qonita Islamic Boarding School. (3) determine the good politeness model in learning debate texts for students of SMAIT Qonita Islamic Boarding School. The method used in this study is the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), which is a systematic approach to instructional development. This model was chosen because it is often used in designing effective and efficient learning. Based on this study, it is concluded that the development of a module integrated with politeness of language has a positive impact on students' communication skills and behavior. This module teaches the application of politeness and wisdom maxims in debate, which not only improves students' argumentative abilities but also their understanding of the importance of respecting the opponent's point of view. Using the ADDIE method, this study shows a significant increase in the use of politeness of language and the application of good communication principles. Learning that integrates politeness also helps shape students' characters who respect differences of opinion. Therefore, it is suggested that this approach be implemented in schools to develop effective and ethical language skills. This study contributes to the literature on language education and practical insights for educators in creating learning environments that support students' social and communication skills.

Abstract

This study discusses Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis on stereotypes of the wife's role in the household in the religious speech given at a wedding event. The purpose of this religious speech is to provide understanding to married couples regarding their respective rights and responsibilities, as well as solve problems in the household, and also to prevent and reduce the number of divorce cases. There is a stereotype of women that is synonymous with femininity, namely in the form of the perception that women are attached, that women are gentle, beautiful, easily carried away by emotions, and full of affection. These perceptions of men and women provide cultural assumptions that give different and wider roles to men and make them obtain a relatively high social value status compared to women. In relation to marriage advice lectures, by looking at the stereotype phenomenon that occurs in women, the process and occurrence of marriage advice is one of the important processes and influences the development of these stereotypes. This study uses a qualitative method using the discourse analysis technique of Sara Mills. The primary data was obtained from a long process of repeatedly listening to the marriage advice video lectures to select scenes that display stereotypes towards women in the marriage advice video lectures. The purpose of this study is to find out and analyze critical discourse about the stereotyped role of the wife in marriage in marriage advice lectures.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to descraibe three kinds of anxiety that was experienced by the main character, and how the anxiety was experienced by the main character in Serena’s novel by Ron Rash. This research used a qualitative approach with content analysis methods. The data source of this research is word, phrase, and sentence in Serena’s novel by Ron Rash. The data technique used in this research is the library technique, namely close reading, listening, taking notes, and analyzing. The results of this research showed that Serena experienced the objective anxiety 7 datas (37%), Pemberton experienced the objective anxiety 6 datas (32%), Serena exprerinced the neurotic anxiety 3 datas (16%), Pemberton experienced the neurotic anxiety 0 data (0%), Serena experienced the moral anxiety 0 data (0%), Pemberton experienced the moral anxiety 3 datas (16%). AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan unuk mendeskripsikan tiga kecemasan yang dialami oleh tokoh utama, dan bagaimana kecemasan tersebut dialami oleh tokoh utama dalam novel Serena karya Ron Rash. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitaif dengan metode analisis isi. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah kata, frasa, dan kalimat dalam novel Serena karya Ron Rash. Tekhnik analisis dalam penelitian menggunakan tekhnik perpustakaan yang biasa disebut dengan membaca secara mendalam, menyimak, pencatatan, dan analisis. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa ada 7 data (37%) yang menunjukan Serena mengalami kecemasan objektif, 6 data (32%) menunjukan Pemberton mengalami kecemasan objektif, 3 data (16%) menunjukan Serena mengalami kecemasan neurosis, 0 data (0%) yang menunjukan Pemberton mengalami kecemasan neurosis, 0 data (0%) yang menunjukan Serena mengalami kecemasan moral, 3 data (16%) yang menunjukan Pemberton mengalami kecemasan moral.

Abstract

Tragedi Kanjuruhan yang terjadi pasca pertandingan Arema FC vs Persebaya menuai perhatian banyak masyarakat dalam dan luar negeri. Tragedi yang telah menghilangkan korban dalam jumlah yang banyak mengakibatkan beberapa tokoh ikut berbicara, salah satunya adalah Najwa Shihab, seorang news anchor dan presenter talkshow professional yang memiliki kompetensi komunikasi yang sangat baik Ketika melakukan praktik komunikkasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana persepsi Najwa Shihab dalam menanggapi tragedi Kanjuruhan yang di kemas dalam kajian wacana kritis yang dikembangkan oleh Nourman Fairclough. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan teoritis analisis wacana kritis Nourman Fairclough. Penelitian ini akan mengkaji melalui tiga tradisi Nourman Fairclough analisis teks discourse practice, dan sociocultural practice . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya temuqn mengenai representasi masyarakat terhadap pertaaggungjawaban tragedi Kanjuruhan.  Aspek kebahasaan diksi dan penggunaan kalimat yang digunakan oleh Najwa Sihab telah menempatkan representasi masyarakat Indonesia terhadap ketidakbecusan pelaksana sepak bola. Keberpihakan Najwa Sihab pada korban tragedi Kanjuruhan yang menyebabkan produksi teks yang dihasilkan menimbulkan citra negatif terhadap pihak tertentu.

Abstract

Bahasa dan budaya merupakan hal yang saling terkait. Kita tidak dapat membicarakan bahasa saja tanpa campur tangan budaya dan begitu pula sebaliknya. Kangen Indonesia merupakan buku terjemahan Jepang, yang mengangkat peristiwa keseharian yang dialami oleh Hisanori Kato sendiri ketika menjalani kehidupan selama beberapa tahun di Jakarta. Berbagai peristiwa, kendala dan shock culture dialami membuat dirinya mau tidak mau beradaptasi agar dapat menyesuaikan dengan ritme negeri orang. Hingga sampai titik Indonesia menjadi ‘rumah’ bagi seorang Hisanori Kato.
