Abstract

Background: Every woman who gave birth should feel pain during childbirth. One of the ways to reduce labor pain is non-pharmacological method is through pregnancy exercise. From the observations conducted by researchers in March 2016 obtained from 10 nulliparous laboring women, there are three people experiencing mild pain, five people experiencing moderate pain and two people experiencing severe pain during the progress of delivery. Aims: This research aimed to know the differences of the mean level of pain during the first stage of labor between women who performed pregnancy exercise and those who did not. Methods: The design of this research was quasi-experiment. This research conducted in midwive practice Yenni Fitri in Bukittinggi Padang-West Sumatera between March to August 2016. A total of 16 pregnant women and joined the class of pregnant women was selected using purposive sampling method and be asked to fill observation sheet. Results: The result showed that there was a significant different in labor pain during the first stage of labor (p value < 0.001). The mean pain level among pregnant women who participated to pregnancy exercise was 4.03, lower than the control group (6.25). Conclusion: Exercise during the third trimester of pregnancy was the good way to the mother to adapt the pain during delivering baby. Pregnant women can do routine pregnancy exercise from the first trimester of pregnancy. This research is expected to recommend health service providers, especially midwives, to deliver the information and the advantages of pregnancy exercise to the women, and to facilitate exercises on third grade pregnant women since exercise during pregnancy is effective and cost-effective in reducing pain and discomfort during the first stage of labor if done regularly.

Abstract

Background: To improve the quality of teaching, teachers should be able to plan the preparation of teaching and at the same time also be able to do so in the form of teaching and learning interactions. The success of learning is influenced by several factors, one of them is the motivation. The motivation will affect the success of learners. A student who has a high enough intelligence can fail due to lack of motivation. Aims: The purpose of this researchis to determine the relationship of students perception about the use of teaching method and learning motivation and achievement of midwifery D III in midwifery care in pregnancy course. Methods: Observational analytic research with cross sectional approach was conducted in the Diploma Program of Midwifery of Universitas RESPATI on May 29, 2014. The sampling technique was aproportional random sampling with a sample of 138 college students.Statistical data analysis was spearman rank test. Results: The data shows there is no relationship between students’ perception on teaching method andstudents achievement (p value >0.05). However, a very significant relationship (p value < 0.01) was found between students’ motivation and their academic achievement. Conclusion: The findings suggest that among the midwifery students in Diploma Program of Universitas Respati, to achieve better academic performance, the students need motivation (internal or external) to easier understand the academic subject. It is expected to the teachers, especially lecturers to develop the teaching methods and materials in accordance with student motivation in learning.

Abstract

Background: Over the past decade, antimalarial drug resistance has rapidly become a major public health problem in South East Asia region including South Sumatra. This study aimed to determine the extent of gene polymorphisms associated with chloroquine resistance (CQR) in P. falciparum isolates from Lahat, Sekayu, Baturaja and Palembang district. Methods: A molecular study was conducted to identify the mutant alleles of the genes associated with the resistance to chloroquine among the isolates of Plasmodium falciparum from South Sumatera. Blood from 25 patients was collected, DNA was isolated, and the sequences of two different genes (Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine resistance transporter/pfcrt and Plasmodium falciparum multidrug resistance/pfmdr1) were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).Results: This study identified polymorphism in the pfcrt 76-Thr in all isolates and pfmdr1 86-Tyr. These findings may reflect the failure of treatment with the standard dose of chloroquine within the last few years in South Sumatera. Conclusion: PCR-RFLP technique provide a simple and rapid method of detecting polymorphisms in genes that may predict chloroquine resistance (CQR). Although the identification of the polymorphism in the pfcrt and pfmdr1 genes provides a significant indicator of CQR, further studies are needed to determine the role of these polymorphisms in the in vivo and in vitro responses to drug treatment. Keywords: chloroquine, Plasmodium falciparum, pfmdr1, pfcrt

Abstract

Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.

Abstract

Giovani Anggista , Ilyas Teguh Pangestu, Dwi Handayani, M. Endy Yulianto, Septi Kusuma, in this paper explain that the main part of ginger used is rhizome. Processed ginger products that can be developed are ginger oleoresin which contains components of gingerol, shogaol, zingerone, resin and essential oils. Ginger oleoresin content ranges from 3.2 - 9.5%, while the content of gingerol in oleoresin is between 14-25% and shogaol between oleoresin. 2.8-7.0%. Considering the benefits of high-antioxidant ginger which functions as an anti-inflammatory and prevents tumor growth, it is necessary to extract the ginger rhizome. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that most influence the extraction of gingerol from the ginger rhizome using a stirred extractor and relatively good conditions. Experiments were carried out with various solvents, pH and temperature. Solvents 4 liters and 8 liters, pH 4 and 6 and temperatures 60oC and 100oC. The Gingerol content is measured by a VIS spectrophotometer. The most influential factor in extraction of ginger was determined by experimental design 23. The analysis of the results showed that for extracting 500 grams of powdered ginger using water as a solvent, the most influential factor was pH, in this case, at pH 6 containing 4% ginger.
