Abstract

The community service activity aims to establish a partnership system with breeders by providing limited goat assistance for six months or one reproductive cycle with the introduction of artificial insemination and ovulation manipulation technology, thus the strengthening of business capital can be increased. This activity involved ten target audiences from Ajee Rayeuk Village, Ingin Jaya Sub-District, Aceh Besar District. Criteria for the target audience were 1) having the lowest income, 2) having experience in raising goats whether their own goats or other people goats, 3) having a pen for at least 4 livestock, and, 4) having family members who are able and have time to focus on managing and caring for their livestock. The community service team was procuring goats based on the criteria that the goat have given birth, clinically healthy, and 3 years old, so the goats had a high productivity performance. The total number of goats provided was 30 goats, with three goats for each target audience. The goats were then subjected to ovulation manipulation technology and artificial insemination.

Abstract

Abstract. Thasmi CN, Hafizuddin UP, Husnurrizal, Siregar TN, Herrialfian, Sutriana A, Rosmaidar, Hanum FF, Gholib, Sayuti A, Yusmadi, Barus RA, Abdelbagi MAE. 2025. Short communication: Disparities in early luteal phase progesterone concentrations between repeat breeder and fertile Aceh cattle. Asian J Agric 9: 854-860. Repeat breeding remains a major reproductive constraint in cattle, often associated with altered luteal function and inadequate progesterone production during early estrus cycles. Understanding hormonal differences between fertile and repeat breeder cows is essential for improving reproductive efficiency in Aceh cattle (Bos indicus). This study aimed to investigate disparities in progesterone concentrations during the early luteal phase between repeat breeder and fertile Aceh cows. Six multiparous Aceh cows, aged 3-5 years and weighing 150-250 kg, were selected as study subjects. The cows were divided into two groups: repeat breeders (n=3) and fertile cows (n=3). To ensure synchronized estrus timing, all cows received 5 ml PGF2α (Enzaprost®-T, Dinoprost 5 mg) using the by double injection method. Estrus detection was performed following PGF2α injection in the morning and afternoon. Blood samples were collected on days 3 and 6 post-estrus for progesterone analysis. Progesterone concentrations were determined measured using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method, and the data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results indicated that progesterone concentrations on days 3 and 6 were 5.68±4.98 and 6.61±3.04 ng/mL in fertile cows, whereas in repeat breeder cows, the concentrations were only 0.35±0.07 and 2.74±0.58 ng/mL, respectively. A significant difference in progesterone concentration was observed on day 3 between the two groups (p < 0.05). The conclusion indicates that repeat breeder Aceh cows exhibit lower progesterone concentrations during the early luteal phase compared to fertile cows. These findings contribute significantly to the understanding of hormonal differences between the two groups, which may serve as a foundation for developing more effective and sustainable breeding strategies.

Abstract

Aqueous extract of johar leaf contains metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, sponins, tannins, phenols, anthraquinones, anthocyanins, and cardiac glycosides which can be used to substitute commercial antibiotics. The use of aqueous extract of johar leaf has been known to have antibacterial activity in vitro. This study aims to determine the effect of aqueous extract of johar leaves (Senna siamea) injection on survival and blood profile of snakehead fish (Channa striata) in vivo. This research was a laboratory study using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications with a total sample of 75 snakehead fish. The fishin KA, KB, KC and KD groups were injected with aqueous extract of johar leaves with concentrations of 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60% respectively, while in KE group the fish was injected with distilled water (control). The parameters of this study were the survival rate and blood profile of snakehead fish. Blood hematology examination included calculation of erythrocyte count, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit percentage, leukocyte count, and thrombocyte count. The research data obtained were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and followed by Duncan's Multiple Distance test. Injection of aqueous extract of johar leaf did not affect the survival rate of snakehead fish. However, hemoglobin and platelet levels significant decrease in the group given 60% concentration of aqueous extract of johar leaf. It can be concluded that aqueous extract of johar leaf at a concentration of 10%, 20%, 40% is safe to use in snakehead fish. Keywords:Johar leaves extractSnakehead fishBlood profileSurvival rate
