Abstract

Background: Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) is the leading cause of death in the world. One of the causes of death is heart and blood vessel disease. The American Heart Association (AHA) states that one in three people over 20 suffer from hypertension. Hypertension is a risk factor for blood vessels and heart disease. Hypertension risk factors are obesity, a high diet of calories, fat, and salt, a sedentary lifestyle, stress, and lack of exercise. The risk of obesity at a productive age can cause hypertension. UKM members tend to be more active and productive in their daily life than students who do not participate in UKM. Objectives: To analyze the association of nutritional status, diet, coffee drinking habits, and blood pressure of UNAIR Students Methods: The design of this study is a cross-sectional study of 80 student members of UKM UNAIR. Respondents were taken from the population based on the accidental sampling method. The independent variable in this study is blood pressure. The study's dependent variables are nutritional status, diet, and coffee-drinking habits. Data were analyzed using chi-square. Results: There is a correlation between nutritional status (p=0.009), high sodium diet (p=0.022), coffee drinking habits (p=0.046), and blood pressure, and there is no correlation between high-calorie diet (p=0.663) and high-fat diet (p=0.215) and blood pressure. Conclusions: There was a correlation between nutritional status, high sodium diet, and coffee-drinking habits with blood pressure in UNAIR Students.

Abstract

Background: The development of Industry 4.0 makes it easy to access everything, such as food and beverages. Online food order platforms are often used among students nowadays. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in purchasing behavior through online order services, especially with the policy of limiting community activities. Beverages such as boba, several types of tea, and coffee are often ordered online. Consumption for a long time and high frequency can increase body mass index, obesity, and the risk of non-communicable diseases. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the impact of the development of online ordering behavior of consuming sweet drinks (SSB) during the COVID-19 pandemic among college students in Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods: This was an observational study using a Mixed Method research design. A quantitative study with a Cross-Sectional research design and a qualitative study through an FGD was done. Results: Based on the results of the descriptive test, it was shown that tea was the most frequently purchased (daily) through online orders (12.95%). Discount greatly influences the respondents' reasons for ordering online (68.4%). Through FGD, most respondents considered promos being the biggest motivation to order. Conclusions: Currently, most 'modern' drinks are included in the SSB category. Consumption of SSB with repeated frequency for a long time will impact nutritional status. Government policies and related parties are needed to minimize the impact of SSB consumption habits, especially with the current pandemic.

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in children under five years old has decreased from 25% in 2013 to 18% in 2019 in The Gambia. The consumption of certain food groups, as part of minimum dietary diversity, serves as a measure of the adequacy of nutrient density for children. This study aims to examine the association between stunted children under five years old and types of food sources, as well as wealth status. Secondary data from The Gambia Demographic and Health Survey 2019-2020 were analyzed, involving 2,533 out of 8,362 children. Logistic regression tests were performed with a 95% confidence interval. Staple foods were identified as the dominant food source for stunted toddlers (p< 0.05; OR = 1.78; 95% CI = 1.436-2.216) and considered a risk factor for stunting. Food intake from more than four food sources (OR = 0.6; 95% CI = 0.403-0.88), place of residence (OR = 0.72; 95% CI = 0.53-0.95), middle wealth status (OR = 0.47; 95% CI = 0.33-0.68), and wealthy household (OR = 0.74; 95% CI = 0.52-1.05) were significantly associated with a reduced likelihood of stunting and considered protective factors. The incidence of stunting is linked to the diversity of food sources given to toddlers. In providing care for stunted toddlers at the community level, stakeholders must consider food diversity, economic capacity, and type of residence.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a serious health problem that continues to increase and can cause morbidity and mortality in many countries. India as a country with the second highest number of DM cases in the world after China has around 77 million cases in adults aged 20-79 years and is estimated to increase by 134 million in 2045. The cause of the incidence of DM in adults is multifactorial. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the risk factors associated with the incidence of DM in adults aged 15-49 years in India. This quantitative study uses a cross-sectional approach. This research data source was secondary data from the 2015-2016 National Family Health Survey (NHFS-4). The study sample size was a male adult population aged 15-49 years in 157 rural and urban areas in India. The independent variables studied were age, meat consumption, alcohol consumption, fried food consumption, smoking, economic status, education level, place of residence, and employment status, while the dependent variable is the incidence of DM. The results from the chi-square show that there were relationships between age, meat consumption, alcohol consumption, fried food consumption, smoking, economic status, education level, place of residence, and the incidence of DM in adult men aged 15-49 years in India. The results of the logistic regression test showed that age, smoking habits, and economic status had a significant effect. Meanwhile, the most influential factor was the higher economic status with an OR of 0.628 times higher having type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Stunting pada balita sangat rentan untuk terjadi akibat asupan nutrisi yang tidak adekuat selama 1000 HPK. Kader posyandu memiliki peran penting dalam melakukan pemantauan tumbuh kembang balita serta memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, pengetahuan yang dimiliki oleh kader posyandu harus mumpuni dalam mengatasi stunting pada balita. Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT) berbahan dasar pangan lokal menjadi salah satu alternatif para ibu dalam mengatasi stunting pada balita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh edukasi gizi menggunakan metode presentasi oral terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan kader posyandu terkait PMT untuk balita stunting. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Pulau Kangean pada 22 Juni 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan pre-experimental design dengan one group pretest dan posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 163 orang kader posyandu yang berada di bawah naungan Puskesmas Arjasa, Kabupaten Sumenep, Jawa Timur. Sehingga sampel penelitian dipilih berdasarkan accidental sampling yang mencakup kriteria inklusi yaitu hadir dalam kegiatan edukasi gizi, mengisi kuesioner, serta termasuk kader yang berada di bawah arahan Puskesmas Arjasa sebanyak 33 sampel. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji normalitas menggunakan Kolmogorov Smirnov. Akibat data tidak berdistribusi normal maka selanjutnya dilakukan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test untuk melihat ada atau tidak pengaruh edukasi gizi berbasis presentasi oral terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan kader posyandu untuk balita stunting. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat pengaruh pengetahuan kader posyandu sebelum dan sesudah diberikan edukasi gizi dengan metode presentasi oral. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh terjadinya komunikasi dua arah selama sesi berlangsung dan kegiatan dilakukan secara tatap muka. Maka terdapat pengaruh edukasi gizi presentasi oral terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan kader.

Abstract

anker serviks merupakan salah satu jenis kanker rahim yang disebabkan karena pertumbuhan abnormal jaringan epitel serviks akibat infeksi human papillomavirus (HPV) risiko tinggi onkogenik yang persisten. Anemia sering menjadi penyakit komplikasi pada pasien kanker yang biasanya terjadi karena kekurangan zat besi dan perdarahan tumor. Pada penelitian ini, diet Tinggi Kalori dan Tinggi Protein diberikan sebagai Proses Asuhan Gizi Tertandar (PAGT). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui implementasi PAGT dan pemberian Diet TKTP pada pasien kanker serviks III B, low intake, dan anemia. Studi kasus dilakukan bulan November 2022 pada pasien rawat inap di RS Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. Pengambilan sampel penelitian dilakukan dengan pemilihan pasien berdasarkan kriteria kasus besar yang telah ditentukan sebelumnya oleh ahli gizi rumah sakit dan pembimbing magang. Pengambilan sampel penelitian dilakukan dengan meninjau rekam medis pasien berdasarkan persetujuan perawat jaga yang juga didampingi ahli gizi rumah sakit. Peneliti menggunakan metode observasi selama 3 hari pada aspek asupan, aspek fisik/klinis, dan aspek biokimia. Peneliti juga melakukan studi literatur untuk melengkapi data yang diperlukan. Hasil penelitian ini berdasarkan monitoring dan evaluasi terjadi perubahan jenis makanan sejalan dengan nafsu makan pasien yang menurun, fisik/klinis belum membaik, dan asupan makan pasien yang kurang dari target (<50%). Pemulihan kondisi pasien terbilang tidak berjalan dengan baik. Hal ini dikarenakan pasien masih menunjukkan tanda fisik/klinis lemas dan nyeri, walaupun asupan makan pasien meningkat, tetapi masih jauh dari target.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a common health problem among adolescents that needs to be resolved immediately. It is estimated that more than 50% of female adolescents aged 12-15 years have anemia. Some of the anemia's effects on adolescents include stunted growth, decreased learning ability, and susceptibility to infectious diseases. Objectives: To identify evidence for nutrition education's effectiveness on anemia knowledge and hemoglobin levels in female adolescents aged 12 to 19. Methods: Using study eligibility criteria, three electronic databases (Scopus, Science Direct, and Pubmed) were searched within five years for relevant articles. Review Manager (RevMan) version 5.4.1 was used to analyze the research findings. Results: Based on the results, there was no significant relationship between education and anemia knowledge in the control and treatment groups (p<0.05). Neither group also had a significant relationship between nutrition education and Hb concentration. However, the Active, Creative, Effective, and Fun Learning or Pembelajaran Aktif, Kreatif, Efektif, dan Menyenangkan (PAKEM) program approach impacted adolescent anemia knowledge. The mean difference value of 0, which indicates the intervention group is more effective than the control group, presented significant results. The estimated effect can be seen in the forest plot image to the left of the vertical line. Conclusions: Based on the meta-analysis, the PAKEM method is a nutritional education method that provides significant results on female adolescents' knowledge regarding anemia and Fe tablet consumption. However, the nutritional education method did not affect hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

Background: Positive Deviance Heart (PDH) focuses on processes identifying affordable, acceptable, and sustainable practices used in communities with limited resources. One of PDH's goals is to prevent malnutrition in children by changing societal norms regarding parenting behavior, feeding practices, and health care behavior. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of PDH implementation in urban areas by assessing nutritional status alteration and changes in child feeding practices. Methods: This quantitative study with a descriptive-analytic approach used secondary data from a three-month PDH intervention conducted by Wahana Visi, Indonesia. Locations and participants were determined by a purposive sampling method. Twenty-nine (29) participants from three urban villages in Surabaya were involved. Data analysis was performed using frequency distribution, ANOVA, and Chi-square test (95% Confidence Interval). Results:  The PDH implementation in Simokerto Sub-district did not significantly improve the children's nutritional status. Changes in child feeding practices during the Hearth did not significantly affect children's nutritional status (p>0.05). There were differences (p<0.05) in Z-score alteration based on the time of weighing with or without considering the age groups and the children's residence (p<0.05). Conclusions: The three-month PDH sessions in the Simokerto Sub-district have not been effective in increasing the target of nutritional status. Changes in child feeding practices were not associated with increased children's nutritional status. Based on the time of weighing, the PDH's intervention periods can improve the target of nutritional status.
