Abstract

Introduction: Benzene is one of the pollutants in the shoe home industry that can cause cancer among the workers. The present research aimed to analyze the relationship between exposure to benzene and spmA (s-phenylmercapturic Acid) in the urine of shoe-making home industry workers in Surabaya. Methods: This was an observational study using an analytical research method where the total number of respondents in the sample was 10. The concentration of benzene was measured using Gas Chromatography-FID (Flame Ionization Detector). The data collection technique was descriptive analysis for each variable from among the worker’s characteristics. The analysis of the relationship between the level of spmA in their urine and the worker’s characteristics was performed using regression tests while the analysis of the relationship between the level of benzene in the air and the levels of workers’ spmA was performed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: The benzene I levels in the work environment were found to be between 0.06 ppm - 53.8 ppm. The average spmA was 6.68 μg/g creatinine. The p value of the relationship between the variable levels of benzene and the levels of spmA was 0.879 with a Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.056. Conclusion: The mean concentration of benzene in the air at the 6 point uptake was over the threshold. Based on the results of the spmA examination, the mean value of spmA was below the threshold value. The test results on the level of benzene in the air and the spmA indicate a very weak relationship.

Abstract

Knowledge of food additives is one of the important factors for sellers. Knowledge affected the choice and usage of food additives for the product. Sellers’ knowledge influenced by various factors such as level of education and experience or business age. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between education, business age, and knowledge among noodle sellers who sell their product through online order-delivery application GoFood and GrabFood in East Surabaya. This research was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional method. This study using 57 respondents who sell their noodles product through online order-delivery application GoFood and GrabFood in East Surabaya within 2.38 km from predetermined point, Campus C Airlangga University, Mulyorejo obtained using random sampling method. Respondent characteristics and knowledge data were collected through interview using questionnaire. Data was analyzed using Spearman Rank Test to find the relationship between variables. The result showed that majority of respondents had senior high school education level, business age 1-5 years, and low level of knowledge. The results showed that education has significant relationship with knowledge (p value=0.017) with correlation coefficient 0.314 and the insignificant relationship between business age and knowledge (p value=0.418). In conclusion, level of education played an important role in sellers’ knowledge of food additives. Socialization about the usage of food additives also need to be done regularly to prevent the false information received by the sellers.

Abstract

Background: The spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia has caused many deaths. One of the ways to deal with COVID-19 is to increase immunity. Youth is the majority population group in the world, meaning many can potentially be exposed to the coronavirus. Youth, including students, tend to be easily exposed to the coronavirus because they have bad eating habits (lack of protein, vitamin C, and vitamin A intake). Bad eating habits can occur due to a lack of knowledge related to nutrition, especially those related to efforts to increase immunity.  Objectives: To determine the relationship between nutrition-related knowledge to increase body immunity with eating food sources of protein, vitamin A, and vitamin C during the covid-19 pandemic in Airlangga University students. Methods: Descriptive quantitative method used a cross-sectional research design with a sample of Airlangga University students. The data was obtained using an online survey using the accidental sampling method. Furthermore, the researcher distributed online questionnaires in the form of google forms with the help of media such as pamphlets through social media. Then the data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Most of the respondents were students of the Faculty of Public Health, female, 21 years old, and living with their nuclear family at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, have good knowledge of nutrition to increase immunity (75%), except for factors which can reduce immunity. There is a significant positive relationship between knowledge and eating habits. Conclusions: There was a significant relationship between knowledge related to nutrition to increase immunity during the covid-19 pandemic through eating food sources of protein, vitamin A, and vitamin C.

Abstract

This study aims to find a perspective of the One-Health approach that can be applied in urban areas. The method used is a Scooping review using PRISMA guidelines. The analysis included relevant articles from several scientific databases such as Elsevier, Science Direct, and Scopus. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to explore the practice of a one-health approach in urban areas. The research results show that this study provides a One-Health approach that must be considered and can be applied in urban areas. Metropolitan areas with high population mobility are supported by facilities that enable various sectors to support each other in implementing One-Health. Integrated interprofessional collaboration can address the determinants of infectious diseases in humans, animals, and the environment. This study concludes that the One-Health approach is an appropriate mitigation strategy to prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases in urban areas. Keywords: COVID-19, One-Health, Urban

Abstract

Introduction: Determinants of health consist of social and physical determinants; one the factors included in physical determinants is environment. Environmental conditions that aren’t healthy can attract flies to land. Diarrhea is caused by vectors (flies) that contaminate food and drink consumed by humans. This research aimed to analyze the strength of the relationship between knowledge, facilities, and behavior of household waste management with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Sedah Kidul Village. Methods: This research was a descriptive study with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional study design. Respondents were selected using simple random sampling from families with toddlers in Sedah Kidul Village as many as 40 respondents. The questionnaire was distributed to respondents to obtain research data. The statistical test used was the contingency coefficient to analyze the strength of the relationship between the variables tested. Result: The results showed the strength of the relationship for level of knowledge (p-value = 0.373 and C = 0.269) including the weak category, availability of facilities (p-value = 0.380 and C = 0.267) including the weak category, and household waste management behavior (p-value = 0.763 and C = 0.168) including the very weak category with the incidence of toddler diarrhea. Conclusion: The conclusion based on the results of statistical tests is there was no significant relationship between knowledge, facilities, and behavior of household waste management with the incidence of toddler diarrhea, supported by the strength category of the relationship on the three variables.
