Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore and compare knowledge management practices in Minangkabau, implemented by librarians and classroom teachers in the context of primary education, and their impact on improving students' literacy skills. Knowledge management has significant potential in optimizing learning outcomes through effective knowledge management. This research uses a qualitative method with a comparative approach to understand the best strategies for improving student literacy. Results suggest that librarians have a better literacy skill level than teachers. Through comparative analysis between librarians and classroom teachers, it is hoped that it can provide in-depth insights into effective collaboration and how to overcome challenges in improving the quality of literacy in primary schools.

Abstract

The Workshop on Semester Learning Plan Development was conducted to support lecturers in understanding how to design structured learning documents aligned with curriculum requirements and classroom learning needs. The activity was initiated based on the need for regular updates of learning plans to ensure that each course has a clear direction and contributes to the expected learning outcomes. The workshop aimed to guide lecturers in reviewing and preparing the core components of the learning plan, including the formulation of course learning outcomes, organization of weekly content, and arrangement of assessment strategies. The method used involved structured training sessions consisting of concept explanations, group discussions, and hands on document drafting. The results indicate an increased understanding among participants in producing more organized and applicable learning plans that are consistent with institutional standards. Participants successfully prepared more comprehensive drafts through collaborative discussions and peer review. Overall, the workshop contributed to improving learning design practices within the higher education environment.

Abstract

Background of the study: Technological developments in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) are increasingly rapid, along with advances in information and communication technology (ICT). One of the most recent innovations highlighted is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, which is gaining recognition for its potential to support information analysis. Purpose: This research aims to explore and analyze previous research related to the implementation of AI as part of technological developments in the LIS field, using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Method: The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using Publish or Perish (keywords: ‘library,’ ‘ICT,’ ‘AI’). Initial 48 articles (2019-2023) screened to 38. Data analyzed using Mendeley and visualized with VOSviewer. Findings: The study showed a significant upward trend in the number of studies on the application of AI in the LIS field over the period. AI is considered an effective tool in supporting information analysis. Researchers emphasized the importance of human intervention in the final analysis; results generated by AIs require further verification and analysis to ensure their validity and relevance in a more specific research context. Conclusion: AI plays a key role in the development of LIS and ICT. Library management must implement strategies such as AI integration, competency development, user AI literacy, and ethical policy development.

Abstract

In the midst of the rapid development of information technology, libraries are required to transform in providing information services. However, conventional services based on printed collections still have an important role, especially in supporting specific and in-depth reference needs. This study aims to examine the existence and relevance of conventional reference services that are still organized at the Library of Universitas Perintis Indonesia. The method used was qualitative research with a field study approach through direct observation and interviews with reference librarians. The results showed that printed collections such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and directories are still actively used, especially by final year students and lecturers who need valid references in scientific writing. The main challenges faced are the limited budget for collection renewal and the lack of user understanding of the benefits of printed collections. However, these services have the opportunity to continue to be relevant if integrated with digital approaches and the promotion of information literacy. This research confirms that conventional services do not lose relevance, but need to be adapted to the dynamics of user needs in the digital era.

Abstract

Purpose. Digital transformation accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the way students explore and evaluate information, especially in the early stages of digital literacy. This study aims to analyse the information literacy practices of students of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the context of Digital Humanities, focusing on the use of AI-based tools in the search, discovery and evaluation of information sources. Methodology. This research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. The sample consisted of 245 FAH and FST students of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, who were purposively selected. Data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analysed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive and Chi-Square tests. The validity and reliability of the instruments were tested, with Cronbach's Alpha >0.80. Results and discussion. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents routinely use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, Gemini, and Perplexity for initiating information searches. AI is considered highly useful for initial reference discovery, expanding exploration scopes, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant sources. However, doubts remain among students regarding AI's effectiveness in assessing source credibility. These results underscore the need to integrate critical thinking approaches into AI-based digital literacy education in Islamic higher education institutions. Conclusions. This study contributes to the Digital Humanities discourse by offering an initial mapping of students' interaction patterns with AI in the digital information literacy landscape.
