Abstract

Arranged marriages and early marriages remain embedded in the social life of some Madurese communities, even though modern developments have increasingly given women more space to determine their own life choices. This tradition is rooted in the belief that marriage serves as a means to maintain the family’s good name and preserve long-standing social relationships built across generations. This study aims to reveal how family habitus and social capital sustain the continuation of arranged marriage practices, and how these dynamics influence the extent of women’s control over decisions related to their marriage. Using a qualitative approach, this study conducted in-depth interviews with three categories of women: those who fully comply with tradition, those who accept arranged marriages as a consequence of maintaining family harmony, and those who have begun to critique the tradition because they feel entitled to choose their own partners. The findings show that habitus functions as a guiding framework for families in evaluating women's propriety and morality through engagement practices prior to courtship, while social capital is mobilized to ensure that the chosen match comes from a family deemed compatible in terms of status, religious networks, and reputation. When habitus and social capital operate strongly, women’s agency tends to weaken; conversely, greater access to education and broader insight opens opportunities for women to negotiate or even reject arranged marriages. This study concludes that arranged marriage is not merely a cultural tradition, but also a family strategy to maintain their position within the social structure. Throughout this process, women continuously negotiate the space they have in making decisions about their own lives.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the learning motivation of children at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Tarbhiyatus Sibyan in Jelun Village, Banyuwangi Regency, by examining how family background and social environment shape their perspectives on education and the future. The study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach, utilizing participatory observation and direct conversations during teaching activities. The findings indicate that children's learning motivation is influenced by family habitus, emotional stability, and the social capital available in their daily lives. Children from families with strong educational support tend to have a clear future orientation, while children from non-harmonious or less stable families often show apathetic attitudes toward school and choose to work after graduating from the MI. In addition, the study found the existence of a pseudo-identity construction in some students as a form of psychological compensation due to the lack of parental involvement. This analysis is reinforced by Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory and Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory, which show that learning motivation is not only born from individual willingness but also from the relationship between the family environment, school, and village social structures. This study concludes that differences in children's learning motivation at MI Tarbhiyatus Sibyan are closely related to each child's social conditions and life experiences. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for schools and communities to strengthen social and educational support for children in rural areas.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of the feminization of poverty through a case study of women informal parking attendants in the city of Surabaya. In the context of urbanization and economic inequality, poor women are increasingly pushed into vulnerable and unprotected sectors of informal labor. The aim of this research is to reveal the socio-economic realities, survival strategies, and structures of power relations faced by these women. Employing a qualitative approach, the study uses case study methods and in-depth interviews with seven primary informants. The findings show that these women work under legally uncertain conditions, shoulder the dual burden of public and domestic labor, and operate within an informal work structure dominated by patron-client relations and symbolic control. Nevertheless, the women also demonstrate agency through spatial negotiations, community solidarity, and survival strategies. The study concludes that the feminization of poverty in urban spaces is not only economic in nature, but also political and cultural. These findings highlight the urgent need for inclusive and gender-sensitive urban policies to ensure social sustainability for marginalized women in urban settings.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to develop and empirically validate an integrative strategic framework linking AI-driven HRM, hybrid work, psychological welfare, sustainable talent development, and HR governance in predicting future-ready HR within digitally transforming organizations. Research Methodology: A quantitative approach using SmartPLS-SEM was applied to analyze survey data from 150 HR managers, supervisors, and practitioners across multiple industries in Indonesia. The model evaluated reliability, convergent validity, structural relationships, effect sizes, and predictive relevance. Results: Findings confirm that all five constructs significantly and positively influence future-ready HR. AI-driven HRM improves strategic decision-making and predictive analytics; hybrid work enhances flexibility; psychological welfare strengthens engagement; sustainable talent development builds long-term workforce capability; and HR governance reinforces fairness and ethical practices. The model shows strong explanatory power (R² = 0.713), with all path coefficients significant (p < 0.05). Conclusions: A multidimensional, integrative HRM model is essential for preparing organizations for future challenges. The synergy between technological innovation, employee well-being, continuous talent development, and ethical governance forms the foundation of resilient and future-ready HR systems. Limitations: The study uses a cross-sectional design, a relatively limited sample size, and excludes other potentially relevant predictors such as organizational culture, leadership style, and digital maturity. Contribution: This study advances HRM literature by presenting an empirically validated, holistic model that integrates technology, human factors, and governance, while offering practical guidance for sustainable and human-centered HR strategies.

Abstract

Whitin the family sphere, violence against women remains a significant social problem that is frequently treated as a private matter. As a cultural medium, film plays an important role in shaping public understanding of such issues through processes of representation. This study applies Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to identify the forms of domestic violence experienced by the female protagonist and to analyze how these forms are depicted in the film Rumah untuk Alie (released 17 April 2025). Using a descriptive qualitative approach and semiotic content analysis, the research draws on primary data from the film and secondary data from books, academic journals, and official reports on violence against women. Data were collected through repeated observation of scenes and documentation of dialogues and visual details. The findings indicate that the film represents three main forms of domestic violence: physical, verbal, and emotional/psychological. Through its narrative structure, dialogue patterns, and visual framing, the film highlights the marginalization of women and demonstrates how violence is embedded within unequal power relations in a patriarchal household. At the same time, the film positions domestic violence both as a normalized family practice and as a critique of broader social structures. Overall, the study underscores that such representations help reveal domestic violence as a structural social issue rather than an individual or private concern.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the social experiences of women entrepreneurs in the technology trade sector, particularly in facing social interactions influenced by gender bias, domestic stereotypes, ethnic discrimination, and environmental stigma. Using Alfred Schutz's phenomenological qualitative approach, this study explores the subjective meanings of the actions of female traders through in-depth interviews with five informants whose identities have been concealed. The results show that female traders face structural inequality in the form of professional belittlement, social exclusion, price injustice, and the spread of slander that affects business continuity. These findings also confirm that women's actions are shaped by because motives that stem from previous discriminatory experiences, and in-order-to motives that reflect their goals in maintaining professional identity and business stability. Overall, this study concludes that the technology trading space is not only an economic arena, but also a social arena where women negotiate meaning, develop survival strategies, and fight for self-legitimacy in an environment that is not yet fully gender-equal.

Abstract

The era of Society 5.0 demands profound transformation within Islamic Education Management (MPI), particularly in integrating Islamic values with technological advancements such as AI, IoT, and big data. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to identify and classify key issues faced by MPI in the disruptive digital era. The findings reveal four major problems: non-adaptive leadership and digital culture, insufficiently innovative curricula that have yet to fully integrate 21st-century competencies, limited infrastructure and persistent digital divides across regions, and low human resource competence in digital literacy and pedagogy. These results highlight the need for adaptive strategies, including strengthening digital leadership, updating technology-based curricula, expanding equitable access to digital infrastructure, and enhancing human resource capacity through continuous training. This research provides an important contribution to mapping managerial challenges and offers strategic recommendations for realizing Islamic education governance that is relevant, innovative, and competitive in the Society 5.0 era.
