Abstract

Lad Contamination in Roadside Soil and Plant and Effect of Organic Matter Amendment (Sabaruddin, D Budianta and Mardia):  Roadside soils and plants may be the most important sink of lead (Pb).  It has been widely known that soil organic matter (SOM) plays important roles in determining concentrations of metals in soil solution and their extractability from the soil.  To investigate Pb contamination in the roadside soils and plants, as well as the effect of organic matter (OM) on the soluble Pb in the roadside soils, surface soils (0 to 20 cm) were collected from a busy road.   The soils were incubated for 4 weeks under room temperature after being treated with 0, 30, 60 and 90 Mg ha-1 of OM.  Leaves of oil palms (Elaeis guineensis) planted on the roadside were also analyzed for Pb content.  Current study revealed that Pb content in roadside soils and leaves of oil palm was 1.5 and 5.5 times higher than the safe level of Pb in soil and plant.  It confirms that both soil and plant at the study site were contaminated by Pb.  Current study also showed that SOM amendment significantly (P<0.01) affected soluble Pb content in the soils.  Adding OM to the soil at 30 Mg ha-1 to correct the level of SOC from very low to low was sufficient to significantly reduce soluble Pb in the soils.  However, the application of 60 Mg ha-1 of OM triggered the increases in soluble Pb in the soils.  Further increases in OM application to 90 Mg ha-1 resulted in significant increases in soluble Pb as compared with that in the soil receiving 30 Mg ha-1 of OM.  In spite of the increases, the level of soluble Pb in the soils receiving 60 and 90 Mg ha-1 of OM was still much below the safe level of Pb in soil.

Abstract

Relationship between the Organic Matter Content with Post Harvest Period of Forest Industrial Plant Acacia mangium Willd (Sabaruddin, S.N.A. Fitri, and L. Lestari): Timber harvesting may have significant effects on soil organic matter content through mechanical disturbance, inputs of logging slash, alterations in litter production, and leaching of dissolved organic matter, as well as the alteration of temperature and moisture regimes.  To investigate the effect of post-harvest period of tree harvesting on the dynamics of soil organic matter content, surface soils (0 to 10 cm and 10 to 20 cm) were collected from intact Acacia mangium Willd. plantation (control) and from A. mangium Willd. harvested in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006 in four replicates.  Each replicate consisted of composited 4 sub-samples.  Timber harvesting reduced litter accumulation on soil surface.  However, the amount of litter accumulated on soil surface increased as post-harvest period increased.  Timber harvesting significantly (p<0.001) affected soil organic matter content both in 0 to 10 cm and 10 to 20 cm.  The increases in soil organic matter content were significantly correlated (r=0.85; p<0.001 in 0 to10 cm and r=0.62; p<0.01 in 10 to 20 cm) with post harvest period.

Abstract

This study explores the growing trend of English language usage in Indonesian cyberspaces, particularly in social media comments. The researchers employ a qualitative research approach, specifically a phenomenological study. Data is collected using the documentation method, through screenshots of comments containing English on social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. This methodology allows for an in-depth examination of the real-world manifestations of English usage in Indonesian digital communication. This research aims to understand the motivations, contexts, and implications of this linguistic phenomenon. The results show that the use of English in Indonesian online spaces shows how language, technology, culture, and worldwide connections mix together. It shows Indonesia is more involved in global online talks while trying to keep its own language and culture. The findings suggest that English usage in Indonesian cyberspace is a complex phenomenon driven by various factors, including globalization, digital connectivity, and changing perceptions of language prestige.

Abstract

Shifting from handcrafted to digital and factory-made toys has sparked worries about primary students’ fading creativity and numeracy skills. This mixed-methods study explores the relationship between children’s play and their creativity and numeracy achievements. The qualitative strand involved interviews with teachers and traditional toy artisans, capturing cultural practices, learning contexts, and observed skills during play. Qualitative results support these themes, showing that traditional play stimulates verbal interactions related to reasoning and problem-solving, particularly in spatial reasoning and mathematics. The quantitative results indicate that play frequency significantly predicts both creativity (β = 0.62, p < 0.001) and numeracy (β = 0.71, p < 0.001), explaining 78% and 86% of the variance, respectively. Traditional and modern non-digital games have positive effects, whereas digital games have significant negative effects. Path analysis further reveals a significant correlation between creativity and numeracy (r = 0.84, p < 0.001). Concerning the models that consider play type, the results show that traditional play consistently supports both outcomes. Digital play tends to exhibit negative impacts, and modern non-digital play contributes positively, albeit to a lesser extent. The tapestry of both data types deepens the conclusion that play, especially when culturally situated, nurtures cognitive development.

Abstract

Bio composite materials are a combination of two or more natural polymer materials or biofiber (natural fibers) which can be degraded as reinforcement and polymer or matrix. Natural fibers generally have the ability to absorb sound well and have basic properties as composite reinforcements. If a wave hits a material, the wave can be straightened, reflected and absorbed. The ability of composite structures to absorb sound can be used to reduce noise levels. This research models a combination of egg rack waste mixed with sago leaf stem (gaba-gaba) waste as a bio-composite material for room acoustic panels. This research uses a material modeling engineering method which is a pure experiment, with the stages of making test samples based on fixed variables and measurable variables and then testing to obtain the material absorption coefficient, then the test results are based on the specified variables, then applying the material to the meeting room. After that tested the acoustic level of the room, especially the meeting room.
