Abstract

The community service carried out in Rukti Basuki Village, Rumbia District, Central Lampung Regency. These activities took place at the house of the chairman of the Rukti Basuki village farmer group through outreach to the farming community both those who are members of farmer groups and individual farming communities regarding the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer by utilizing organic materials, which is very easy to find around us like healthy grass. The objectives of this activity are 1) To provide understanding and skills for farming communities so they can make liquid organic fertilizer from grass-based ingredients; 2) Providing understanding so that farmers maximize the use of organic fertilizers rather than chemical fertilizers; 3) Providing skills to farmers to utilize the grass around us or on the land we plant into organic fertilizer which so far has been underused by farmers; and 4) Help increase farmers' income from the agricultural sector. The method used ABCD (Asset Base Community Development), based on the strengths and assets owned by the community. The results obtained from this counseling activity included: the farmers who participated in the counseling were able to produce liquid organic fertilizer from agricultural waste, the participants were able to pack it properly and were able to apply it. Abstract

This paper investigated the physical characteristics of wood–plastic composites, which were made using recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and using wood flour from Pometia sp (Matoa), Intsia sp (Merbau) and Alstonia sp (Pulai) as filler. The sawdust was taken from local furniture industry and the HDPE was collected from recycled plastic bottles of mineral water. Composite panels were made from recycled HDPE through hot-press moulding produced excellent stability based on JIS and SNI Standard, especially for moisture content and swelling characteristics. The water absorption and targeted density were also measured. In this study we found that the water absorption and the density of the composite exceeded our expectation. The composites showed high variation average for water absorption. For the swelling behavior, the value is varied from 5.74% to 25.57% after 2 hours soaking and varied between 7.56% to 28.53% after 24 hours soaking. This study has shown the composites had a high possibility to be used for interior and non-structural purposes.

Abstract

Biodiesel is a bioenergy or biofuel produced by transesterification of vegetable oil (animal fat). Transesterification is a chemical method in which oil triglycerides react with methanol with the help of an alkaline catalyst to produce biodiesel. The goal of this study is to determine the quality of biodiesel utilizing MeOH as a catalyst throughout the transesterification process. This study aims to produce biodiesel using the transesterification process with palm oil as the main raw material. Making biodiesel begins with heating the palm oil at 61-65 oC and then adding a mixture of NaOH and methanol solutions so that glycerol, emulsion, and biodiesel are obtained as a result of transesterification. Finally, a separatory funnel is used to obtain pure biodiesel. The yield values of biodiesel produced with MeOH catalysts of 20%, 25%, and 30% were 81.5%, 86.6%, and 44.4%, respectively. Furthermore, this study performed density calculations that influenced the quality of biodiesel from each amount of MeOH utilized to achieve a density of 0.85 g/ml. As can be observed, the usage of MeOH catalyst has an effect on the quality of biodiesel yields.

Abstract

Abstract

Astronomy is commonly defined as a science that studies the movements of the fixed stars and the planets. It is often perceived one of Western science as scientific heritage of Greek. Modern astronomers do not know the criticism made Moslem astronomical scientists, Ibn Shatir, who criticize Ptolemy System. Astronomy only knows the theory is built Kepler and Copernicus after collapsing geocentric theory confines without considering the theory of Ibn Shatir who first charted the movement of planets in space, the theory of which is believed to belong to the modern world as Kepler and Copernicus. This article attempts to reviewing the roots of Islamic astronomy in medieval times that mark the advance of Islamic civilization during the darkness of the West. Middle Ages was the golden age of Islam who donated a lot of new theories in science literatures, including astronomy. This article shows that the activity of astronomy widespread intensively from the beginning of the ninth century to the sixteenth century. This activity is reflected in the large number of scientists working in the field of practical and theoretical astronomy, the number of books written, active observatory, and the new observations. All scientific activities began with the fantastic translation of non-Arabic scientific works. Islamic astronomical activities divided into two major schools, astronomical-mathematic school in the East and astronomical-philosophic schools in the Western Islamic caliphate.

Abstract

Periode kelima, tahun 2000-an, dimana perbenturan antar tradisi pemahaman keagamaan di Rejomulyo semakin kompleks. This article is result of study about epistemologi of islamic law in villagers applicative level of Rejomulyo, south Metro Lampung which shows intellectual creativity in interpretating a belief. This current study starts from the excistence of continuity and transformations of reforming issue that was coming from the great tradition to thoughts that concerns with the little tradition rank. The purpose of this article is to describe the geneology of villagers’ interpretating a belief toward villagers’ plurality of region insight of Rejomulyo – South Metro, Lampung. The yield of this current paper shows that the roots of villagers’ plurality region insight at Rejomulyo shaped based on aspects of history which consist of five periods. Early period, the nuance of region has been colored by hindu-islam doctrines and java’s spritualism. Second period is in the 1940’s, the patterns of diversity is more rather than islamic cultural. 1960’s is the third period where it has been colored by harmonization between two islamic organizations, those are Muhammadiyah and the traditionalist. The fourth period has been begun 1990’s. That year was time when thought of differences appeared between The traditionalist and the Literalist. Mellinnium era is the fifth periode where conflicts between tradition of relegion thoughts was more complex in Rejomulyo. The Emergence of islamic traditionalist group who try to energize the patterns of cultural variations. The new group, then, is well-known “ New Tradition” which resided between traditionalist and Literalist group that always involved to flight over the claim of thruthfulness which is the authentic one in doing reverence.

Abstract

The study of Salafi is generally focused on the perspective of social movements with the political opportunity structure, resources theory, and collective action frames. The three approaches to social movement theory lead to the same estuary, which is an analysis of emerging factors and the development of a social movement. Unlike the previous studies, this article focuses on the acceptance of the Islamic community's acceptability patterns to the Salafi movement. The interesting phenomenon of this movement is the so massive infiltration occurring. The community is so rapidly accepting the style and the system of sustainability offered by various Salafi groups. This article uses a sociological approach to the basis of structural-functional and interactionist-symbolic theories of experience in both the individual and collective levels of the followers of Salafi. Methods of collecting data through interviews, observations, and documentation with the research subject of 30 members of the Salafi group are not grass-root. The results showed that structuralist-functionally, the phenomenon of public acceptability due to the currents of modernity, shifting the concept of the family, shifting the meaning of religious authorities, and ease of access to information technology. Symbolically-symbolic, the phenomenon is the result of individual interaction with the social environment and the search for alternative religious identity. Keywords: Salafi, Movemnt, and Islam

Abstract

Text is one of the most important elements for Muslims. It not only acts as a symbol but also a representation of authority that connects family identity among Muslim communities. In the world of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), ijtihad is one means of reproducing text authority, including in the fiqh mu’amalah. The article aimed to examine the authority of the text in the ijtihad of the fiqh mu’amalah of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. The article is the result of normative legal research with a qualitative descriptive research design. Meanwhile, the research objects studied and examined were related to text and authoritative power in the ijtihad of santri (Islamic students) in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). The study showed that as authoritative power, santri plays a role in transferring the text of the kitab kuning (yellow book) in the discourse of fiqh mu’amalah, both explicitly (qawli) and implicitly (ilhaqi), as legitimacy for the decisions made in the bahsul masail forum. Based on the concept of El-Fadl’s authority, the role of santri as the authoritative power of the text in ijtihad is based on five foundations, honesty and openness, sincerity in understanding "God’s will" in the text, the principle of comprehensiveness, rationalization of interpretation and search for "God’s command," and the ability to self-control in ijtihad. This study recommends that the bahsul masail methodology be preserved, either in the pesantren environment or formal education, affiliated with the pesantren. So, the religious texts are interpreted and read properly according to their context.
