Abstract

Background. Climate change is no longer a distant environmental issue but a present and intensifying force driving social and economic displacement across the globe. Vulnerable populations, particularly in the Global South, face disproportionate impacts in the form of rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and resource scarcity, often leading to forced migration. These dynamics underscore the intersection between climate change and global inequality, raising urgent questions about justice, adaptation, and human mobility. Purpose. This study aims to explore the social dimensions of climate-induced migration, focusing on how environmental stressors exacerbate existing inequalities and shape patterns of displacement. The research also investigates the role of governance, infrastructure, and international aid in either mitigating or perpetuating migration-related vulnerabilities. Method. A qualitative-dominant mixed-methods approach was employed, including ethnographic fieldwork in two climate-affected regions, semi-structured interviews with 30 climate migrants, and analysis of secondary data from international climate and migration databases. Data were thematically analyzed to uncover recurring patterns and socio-political contexts surrounding climate mobility. Results. Findings reveal that climate migration is not solely an environmental issue but deeply intertwined with poverty, weak governance, and limited access to resources. Migrants often face legal ambiguity, social exclusion, and economic instability in host regions. The study highlights a growing need for inclusive climate adaptation policies that address both environmental and social dimensions. Conclusion. The study concludes that addressing climate migration requires integrated strategies that bridge environmental sustainability, social equity, and human rights protections to ensure just and humane responses to climate-induced displacement.

Abstract

Community service programs often operate in complex environments where social, economic, and cultural factors intersect, creating diverse risks that threaten their effectiveness and sustainability. This study explores an integrated approach to risk management in community service, combining principles from ISO 31000 with community-based participatory methods. Using a qualitative multi-case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis across 17 community programs in Southeast Asia from 2020 to 2024. The findings highlight key risk categories, including volunteer safety incidents, funding discontinuities, cultural misalignment, and data privacy breaches. Programs employing integrated risk management strategies demonstrated significant improvements in risk preparedness and mitigation outcomes. For instance, preventive measures such as GPS tracking for volunteers and diversified donor portfolios reduced preventable incidents by 37% and enhanced program continuity. Additionally, participatory approaches involving community advisory boards identified 22% more contextual risks compared to top-down methods. This study proposes a five-phase implementation model emphasizing stakeholder collaboration, adaptive monitoring, and real-time feedback loops to address dynamic risks effectively. The results underscore the importance of embedding risk communication, prioritizing resources strategically, and fostering cultural brokerage to enhance program resilience. By aligning theoretical frameworks with practical applications, this research provides actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to harmonize risk management with social impact goals. Future studies should explore the long-term cost-effectiveness of participatory models and the potential of AI-driven risk prediction tools in resource-constrained settings. This integrated approach offers a pathway to more sustainable and impactful community service initiatives.

Abstract

Chiller systems account for a significant portion of energy consumption in industrial and commercial HVAC operations, often exceeding 50% of total power usage. However, inefficiencies such as elevated condenser pressure, inadequate heat transfer, and excessive compressor workload contribute to increased energy demand. This study presents a comprehensive performance evaluation of water-cooled centrifugal chiller systems based on 30 operational test scenarios. Key efficiency indicators—including Coefficient of Performance (COP), Specific Energy Consumption (SEC), and isentropic efficiency—were analyzed to identify performance gaps. The results revealed COP values ranging from 1.92 to 4.07, with an average between 2.8 and 3.2, indicating suboptimal performance relative to industry benchmarks (COP > 4). SEC values between 1.07 and 1.25 kW/ton further highlight opportunities for energy optimization. High condenser pressure (>7.5 barg) and negative subcooling (-4.1 K to 0 K) were identified as major contributors to inefficiency. The study emphasizes that optimizing water flow rates and maintaining proper heat exchanger conditions can significantly improve system performance. Unlike previous research relying on AI or IoT-based diagnostics, this work adopts a practical, data-driven approach, offering actionable insights for facility managers seeking to enhance energy efficiency and operational reliability.

Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational settings has outpaced the development of clear ethical guidelines, creating significant challenges related to academic integrity, data privacy, and algorithmic bias. Understanding stakeholder attitudes is crucial for developing effective policies for responsible AI use. This study aimed to empirically investigate and compare the attitudes of high school students and teachers regarding the ethical challenges and responsible use of AI in education. A mixed-methods approach was employed, using a quantitative survey administered to 250 students and 50 teachers to gauge attitudes toward AI ethics. This was supplemented by qualitative data from semi-structured focus groups to explore the reasoning behind these attitudes. The findings revealed a significant divergence in attitudes, with teachers expressing greater concern for academic integrity and data privacy, while students were more focused on AI as a tool for efficiency. Both groups, however, demonstrated a shared desire for clear, explicit ethical guidelines. A notable gap exists between student and teacher perspectives on AI ethics in education. To foster a culture of responsible AI use, educational institutions must implement comprehensive training and develop clear policies that address the distinct concerns of both stakeholder groups.
