Abstract

The implementation of distance learning at every level of education, significantly higher education, has various obstacles. One of them was the lack of teaching materials that can support students to learn both guided and independent. Learning resources that were commonly used did not interactively support learning. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of interactive e-modules based on project-based learning in mathematical literacy skills and student confidence in number theory courses. The type of research used was quasi-experimental with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were students of the 2021 mathematics education study program, which consisted of two classes with 32 experimental classes and 36 control classes. Technique sample used a census where each class was selected and determined treatment. Data collection techniques were used tests with literacy ability test instruments and self-confidence questionnaires. Data analysis with descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing using MANOVA and the effectiveness of learning with interactive e-modules were analyzed using a one-sample t-test.The results showed that the application of project-based learning-based interactive e-modules was effective in students' literacy skills, with a t-count result of 6.949 and a significance level of 0.000. The use of e-modules is more effective than the control class, with an average literacy ability of 81.25 in the experimental class and 62.91 for the control class. I am judging from the adequate self-confidence with a high category and the results of t count of 4.179 significant at 0.05 alpha. The results of the Manova analysis show that the application of interactive e-modules is more effective in terms of literacy skills and student self-confidence, with a significant Hotelling's trace of 0.000

Abstract

Background: Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin crucial for neuronal survival and differentiation, has emerged as a potential key player in sarcopenia development. This meta-analysis aimed to systematically evaluate the molecular mechanisms by which BDNF contributes to sarcopenia. Methods: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases was conducted for studies published between 2018 and 2024 investigating the relationship between BDNF and sarcopenia at a molecular level. Studies were included if they met the following criteria: (1) examined BDNF signaling pathways in skeletal muscle; (2) assessed the impact of BDNF on muscle protein synthesis/degradation; (3) explored the role of BDNF in mitochondrial function and oxidative stress in muscle; and (4) investigated the influence of BDNF on muscle fiber type and neuromuscular junction integrity. Results: A total of 28 studies (n = 1,245 participants) met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis revealed that lower BDNF levels were significantly associated with: reduced muscle protein synthesis (SMD = -0.85, 95% CI: -1.12 to -0.58, p < 0.001); increased muscle protein degradation (SMD = 0.62, 95% CI: 0.35 to 0.89, p < 0.001); impaired mitochondrial function (SMD = -0.71, 95% CI: -0.98 to -0.44, p < 0.001); increased oxidative stress (SMD = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.28 to 0.82, p < 0.001); a shift towards fast-twitch muscle fibers (SMD = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.21 to 0.75, p = 0.001); and compromised neuromuscular junction integrity (SMD = -0.92, 95% CI: -1.21 to -0.63, p < 0.001). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides compelling evidence that BDNF plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia through its multifaceted effects on muscle protein metabolism, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, fiber type composition, and neuromuscular junction integrity.

Abstract

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by widespread inflammation and diverse clinical manifestations. The systemic inflammatory immune index (SII), calculated as platelet count * neutrophil count/lymphocyte count, has emerged as a potential marker of systemic inflammation in various conditions. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between SII and disease activity in SLE patients. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 60 SLE patients diagnosed according to the 2019 EULAR/ACR classification criteria. Demographic and clinical data were collected, and disease activity was assessed using the Mexican Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (MEX-SLEDAI). Blood samples were analyzed to determine SII values. Statistical analysis included Spearman's correlation to assess the relationship between SII and MEX-SLEDAI scores. Results: The study population predominantly consisted of women (98.3%), with a median age of 29 years. A strong positive correlation was observed between SII and MEX-SLEDAI scores (r = 0.931, p < 0.001). Patients with higher SII values exhibited significantly greater disease activity. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that SII is a promising predictor of disease activity in SLE patients. This readily available index may aid clinicians in assessing disease severity and tailoring treatment strategies. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and explore the utility of SII in monitoring disease progression and treatment response.

Abstract

Health is a factor that always needs to be taken care of by each personal. Some things you can do to stay healthy are eating nutritious foods, exercising, taking care of the environment, etc. However, a person can experience health problems due to communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases. A communicable disease is a disease that can be transmitted from one person to another, directly or indirectly. One of the infectious diseases discussed some time ago in India was tomato flu. Tomato flu is an illness that results from a red rash and blisters that look like tomatoes caused by the flu. This disease is contagious in children under five years old. Tomato flu has some symptoms that are common with other infectious diseases, so people can be infected with other infectious diseases. The role of experts is necessary, but the number of experts cannot be compared with the number of victims. Therefore, an expert system is needed to diagnose these infectious diseases by the method of Forward Chaining. This method was chosen because it can diagnose infectious diseases based on a set of established data. Expert system testing is done using Black Box Testing, where each tested item generates a succesfull state.
