Abstract

This study aims to examine YouTube as an interactive educational tool to improve Arabic speaking skills among middle school students. As digital media becomes increasingly integrated into the learning process, YouTube provides audio-visual content that can simulate real-life conversational contexts, making it a relevant learning resource in today’s language teaching. This study uses a quantitative quasi-experimental design. Thirty female second-grade students were purposively selected and evenly divided into an experimental group, which received Arabic-speaking instruction through YouTube videos, and a control group, which was taught using traditional methods. The study's hypothesis states that there is a statistically significant difference in speaking skill improvement between students who use YouTube and those who receive conventional instruction. To test this hypothesis, an independent samples t-test was used. The study lasted six weeks, during which data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, interviews with teachers, and documentation of teaching materials and student progress. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS and revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s speaking ability, with a post-test mean of 42.13 and an N-Gain of 0.60 (moderate), compared to the control group’s mean of 26.53 and N-Gain of 0.11 (low), indicating that YouTube was much more effective in improving speaking performance. These results indicate that YouTube impacts Arabic language instruction as a practical and engaging strategy to develop students’ communicative competence. Although the findings are promising, the small sample size and the study’s focus on a single institution call for broader research to verify these results. Therefore, other researchers in the same field are expected to address these limitations.

Abstract

The most dominant community activities are sand farming and tourism, while government intervention is in the form of infrastructure development, establishing conservation areas, protection, and tourism. The coastal areas of Bantul and Kulon Progo Regencies in DI Yogyakarta are naturally influenced by the supply of sand sedimentation from Mount Merapi, wind, and beach wave energy. However, this area has now become an area for agriculture, tourism, and other economic businesses, supported by various infrastructures. The condition shows that there is interpenetration of the ecological system by the social system and the development policy system. This research aims to organize coastal area management institutions as a result of interpenetration. The method used combines the social-ecological systems theory approach with social systems theory, which aims to get an overview of the dynamics of interpenetration. The research results show that interpenetration between the three systems occurs repeatedly and creates reciprocal symptoms. This research recommends that institutional governance be used as a middle way to reduce vulnerability, increase resilience, and strengthen sustainability. Institutional governance places the social system and development policy system as subjects, and the ecological system and the other two systems as objects.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and effectiveness of corrective feedback in improving students' speaking performance in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Corrective feedback is considered one of the essential strategies in the language learning process, especially in addressing students' language errors both directly and indirectly. Various types of corrective feedback, such as recasts, prompts, and explicit correction, are known to facilitate effective learner uptake and positively impact students' speaking accuracy and fluency. Based on a comprehensive review of academic literature, this study reveals that timely and context-appropriate corrective feedback significantly contributes to the development of students' speaking skills. Additionally, both teachers' and students' perceptions of the importance of corrective feedback play a crucial role in determining its effectiveness. Teachers who can select the appropriate feedback techniques based on students' characteristics and learning situations help learners build confidence and self-correct their language errors more effectively. This study suggests that English teachers should actively and consistently provide corrective feedback during speaking activities. The selection of feedback types and timing should be adjusted to maximize their impact on students' speaking development. Thus, corrective feedback serves not only as a correction tool but also as a pedagogical strategy that encourages students to engage more actively in the language learning process.
