Abstract

Diospyros celebica Bakh is one of the strongest, one-class, beautiful types of wood, including high-value timber species and is a luxury wood species. The level of ebony regeneration in nature is relatively low, this is due to its semi-tolerant nature, which at the level of the ebony seedlings requires shade plants. Water is one physical component that is vital for plant growth and development. The role of water that is very important has the consequence that direct or indirect deficiencies or excess water in plants will affect all of its metabolic processes so that it can reduce plant growth. This research was conducted for 3 months, December 2015 until February 2016. The research location was located in the area of the Faculty of Forestry, Tadulako Palu University, Central Sulawesi Province. The experimental design used was the Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consisted of two factors, namely light intensity and watering intensity. The results showed that the treatment of light intensity had a significant effect on the growth of ebony plants the best average growth results were found at 30% light intensity (C2). The treatment of watering intensity significantly affected the growth of Diospyros celebica Bakh, the best growth rate was found in P2 (watering morning and evening). The interaction between light intensity and watering intensity has no significant effect, this is due to the state of light intensity, the soil moisture is still relatively the same, both during watering P1 and P2 so that the availability of water for photosynthesis is still available. Keywords: Diospyrros celebica Bakh, light intensity, watering

Abstract

The microorganisms found in the forest soil are one of the factors that influence the formation of forest soil. In mountain tropical forests slow down soil formation processes as evapotranspiration decreases, chemical reactions are slower and densities of fungi and soil bacteria are fewer, whereas in lowland forests are rich in vegetation species, as well as hot and humid climate conditions. The purpose of this research is to know the population of fungi and bacteria of forest soil of mountains and lowland forest. The study was conducted from December 2017 to February 2018. This research started from field survey, determination of sampling point. Soil sampling was done on a plot with size 25 m × 25 m with a soil depth of 0-10 cm and composite soil sampling. This research uses descriptive analysis method. The results showed that the population of fungi and bacteria are different between the mountain forest (Nokilalaki) and lowland forest (Kamarora). The lowland forest soil higher of fungi (614 × 103 CFU g-1) and bacteria population (43.6 × 106 CFU g-1) then the mountain forest soil of fungi (188.8 × 103 CFU g-1) and bacteria population (7.36 × 106 CFU g-1).

Abstract

Forest is the habitat of a wide range of plant species in which these species have different sizes and ages of seedling at transplanting. In order to increase the species richness through natural regeneration, it is important to carry out research related to this topic. In the present study, the seedlings of Malapoga (Toona ciliata M. Roem) from its natural population are investigated. It primarily aims to determine the effect of storage time of the seedlings of Malapoga (Toona ciliata M. Roem) to obtain optimal seedling growth. It was conducted in June – August 2016, at the nursery of BPDAS PALU-POSO, Universitas Tadulako, Palu, Central Sulawesi. The research uses a completely randomized design (CRD) in which there are four treatments, namely: M0 = Control, M1 = 1-day storage, M2 = 2-days storage, M3 = 3-days storage. Of the four treatments, five replications were conducted hence there were a total to 20 samples. The parameters were height, stem diameter and number of leaves. The honestly significant difference (HSD) test was carried out since the analysis of variance showed a significant difference among the treatments. The results indicate that the 3-days of storage (M3) has a significant positive effect on the seedling growth, with an average plant height of 6.94 cm, stem diameter of 0.3 mm, and eight leaves are visible. It contrasts to the control in which it experiences slow growth.

Abstract

Dendrobium orchid has great potential to be developed. The problem faced in its development is the decrease of orchid productivity per square meter of cultivation area. Consequently, the less availability of orchid either in quality and quantity. Whereas, there are growth regulator substances might be used to fulfill the hormone needs of orchid to obtain optimal growth. The main constraint is how the growth regulator substance in a certain amount affected the dendrobium archid growth. The research objective is to assess the growth response of stem cuttings of Dendrobium secundum orchid in combination of concentration and application intensity of growth regulator. This research was conducted for 3 months from October to January 2018, at Orchid Green House of the Permanent Nursery of BPDAS Palu Poso, Tadulako University. The results of study showed that the best treatment was combination of NAA (1 ml) + BAP (1 ml)/liter of water applied once a week (P1), which gave the fastest shoot growth of 16.25 days and had the highest growth on the shoot height of 3.5 cm and on the leave number of 4 sheets at the age of 12 weeks after planting.
