              AbstractThe aim of the research is to find out whether Indonesian Folktale Movie is effective or not to teach narrative text writing. The research focused on the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pontianak in academic year 2019/2020 by administering a written test about narrative text before and after giving two teaching treatment. The research applied Quasi-Experimental, in which the writer had one class for experimental and one class for control. The sample of this research was X AKL 3 as the experimental group and class X AKL 4 as the control group, which consist of 39 students in each class. The data was calculated and the results showed that the mean score of the experimental group students’ pre-test is 59.4, while the post-test is 79.71. The mean of control group students’ pre-test is 59.69, while the post-test is 61.79. The t-test was higher than the t-table (5.15 1.992). The result of the effect size (ES) was 3,34, which was categorized as a modest effect (ES>0.5). It proved that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It can be concluded that the Indonesian Folktale Movie is modestly effective to teach students’writing narrative text. Keywords: Indonesian Folktale Movie, Narrative Text, Teaching Writing

AbstractThis research is aimed to know how well the reading comprehension ability of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019.The writer used measurement test as techniques to collect the data.The writer classified the result of students? test in order to get the research findings based on the category of the difficulties; main idea, supporting details, vocabulary, and inference and decided the most dominant difficulty faced by the students from each percentage of difficulties.The most dominant problem was made by the students in reading comprehension test was in vocabulary, its percentage with 36%.Where as the other difficulties were supporting details with 28%, reference word with 19% and main idea with 17%. Abstract The research investigated the result whether implementing Instagram as a teaching media was effective in teaching students writing descriptive text or not. This was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. There were 30 students of X Tata Niaga learning group who participated in this research. The date were collected by objective test and analyzed by t-test and effect size formula. According to the research findings, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The obtained t-value (3.615) was bigger than the critical value of r (1.699) by the degree of freedom 29. The effect size was categorized as strong effect since the ES value was 0.65 and bigger than 0.6. Everything considered, teaching writing descriptive text through Instagram, is significant and effective to year – 10 of “SMK Panca Bhakti†in Academic Year 2018/2019.  Keywords: Descriptive Text, Instagram, Writing.

AbstractThis study was aimed to know how STAD technique improves the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 21 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. It was a classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four components namely planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The research instruments were observation in form of observation checklist and field notes in order to describe the process while applying STAD technique in the classroom. In addition, she used measurement technique in form of reading test items to measure students’ achievement. These reading test items including five aspects that helps students to improve their reading comprehension. These five reading aspects in terms of identifying main idea, identifying specific information, identifying reference, identifying inference and vocabulary. The result of this study that, the students improved their reading comprehension through STAD technique by discussing the issues proposed by the teacher in the reading text. Further more, they worked together in heterogeneous teams to get higher improvement point as their goal in each cycle. This condition created the compotitive athmosphere in the classroom. So, it increased students’ motivation to comprhened the reading text.Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Classroom Action Research, STAD Technique

AbstractThis research was conducted on the effect of Diary Writing was effective in teaching writing a recount text to the eighth grade students of SMPN 11 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The purposes of this research is to know the effectiveness of diary writing to improve student? writing ability of a recount text. Sample of this research are Class VIII A was the experimental group and class VIII F was the control group. The experimental group given a treatment that is diary writing and the control group did not given the treatment. To know the effectiveness of diary writing the writer gave a pretest and posttest. Pretest before treatment and posttest after treatment. The students? write a diary writing with the generic structure of recount text. Diary writing and recount text is a text to tell the reader about past experience. The result of this research showed that diary writing was effective to improve students? writing ability in recount text. Keywords : Writing, Recount text, Diary Writing

AbstractThe present research was an attempt to know the improvement of teaching by using picture series on students’ process in writing procedure text in Year-7 of “SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya†in the Academic Year of 2017/2018. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research. This research was done in three cycles. The participants of this research were the seventh-grade English teacher and 32 students in class VII A. The researcher found that the picture series improved students’ process in writing procedure text. Then the ideas were also clearly stated and the sentences were organized well. The students also began to show their interests by actively answered the questions and enthusiasm during the class activity until the end. The result of this study showed that the picture series did not only improve students’ process in writing procedure text but also motivated the students to write in groups and individual.Keywords: Procedure Text, Picture Series   Â

AbstractThe research aims at analysing the teacher-student interaction in the classroombased on Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) system in the classroom at eleventh grade students of MAN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2016/2017.This research applied a case study approach with qualitative method. The sample of this research were one English teacher as the participant who taught English subject and XI IPA 3 students.The instruments were FLINT system.The data was collected by using observationtechniquewith audio recorder as the tool of collecting data. The research findings showed that that there were two languages used in the teacher-students interaction. The languages used in the interaction were English and Indonesian which English was the dominant language used in the classroom. The teacher talk of giving praises and encouragement is approximately more than criticizing the student’ behavior , the asking questions category dominate the teacher talk category rather than student’s talk but once the teacher asked the questions to the students and the students responded it well by speaking eagerly. The utterances of giving direction occurred in relatively short times. While in student talk, there are students’ problems and difficulties in speaking. The extracts of student talk in classroom interaction revealed the students problems such as the lack of vocabulary, anxiety, inability to form ideas in English language form, and grammar error. The teacher talk frequency was still excessive, but the teacher made group and pair discussions to balance the effective talk for students in student-student interaction. Keywords: Teacher-student Interaction, FLINT System, English Class.

Abstract This research is aimed to improve students? reading comprehension in descriptive text by using Jigsaw technique. In conducting this research, the researcher implemented classroom action research as a method. The researcher collected the data by using observations checklist and students? assessments in each cycle. This research was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was 20 students at the eighth grade of SMP Mujahidin Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. Based on the data collected, it is found that Jigsaw can improve students? activeness and participations to in teaching-learning processes from cycle to cycle. Besides, the process improvement impacted to students? mean score. The students mean score was 60.75 and in second cycle was 71.75. Since the process of learning in the second cycle showed a significant improvement, the teacher and the researcher not to conduct the next cycle. In conclusion, Jigsaw technique can improve students? reading comprehension on descriptive text.Keywords: Improve, Students, Reading, Jigsaw, Descriptive Text.

Abstract This research was conducted to improve the students? participation in learning writing recount text by using picture series. Most of the students did not actively participate in the class, when the teacher taught, they did not pay attention to the teacher, they talked to each other and did not participate in completing the assigned task. To achieve the research purpose, a classroom action research was conducted. This research was implemented to 33 eighth grade class D students. The research was done in three cycles. The writer observed the improvement of students? participation by collecting the data through observation technique. The result of data analysis showed that the students? participation improved during the process of teaching and learning writing recount text using picture series. The students could active participate in the teaching learning process. It showed that the percentage of students? participation improved from 43% (cycle 1) to 45% (cycle 2) increased to 72% (cycle 3). It can be concluded that the students? participation in learning writing recount text improved using picture series. Thus, it is recommended to the teachers to use picture series as a media to improve students? participation. Keywords: Learning Writing Recount Text, Participation, Picture Series

AbstractThis research was conducted in order to solve the problem encountered in the classroom; the students were passive in learning process, they also had difficulties to figure out the main idea, supporting details, and determine the synonym and antonym. The method of the research was classroom action research. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students science V of SMA Negeri 7 Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018. When the researcher applied the reciprocal teaching technique, the students began to show their interests by actively answering the questions and enthusiasm in having their roles in learning process. The result of this research showed that reciprocal teaching did not only improve the students? reading comprehension, but also the students? interaction between the students to students and the students to the teacher.
