Abstract

This study aims to explore the existing forms of ethnomatematics in the Palue society and to analyze its relation to mathematical concepts in elementary school. In this study, qualitative data were obtained through observation of the community's activity and arterfak used in the activity. The other data were also obtained through interviews with the Palue community. The data are analyzed theoretically using theories relating to the relationship of ethnomatematics with the concepts of mathematics in elementary school. The results show that the ethnomatematic forms that exist in the Palue society culture include forms of artifacts used in traditional ceremonies, dances, livelihoods, tenun ikat activities and traditional games. These social activities have a certain relationship to mathematical concepts in elementary schools, namely the concept of numeral operations, two deminsion concept (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, rhombus, and kite), geometry concept (tubes, shperis, and cones) as well as concepts of the measurement (measurement of the length, mass, and time). Based on this matter, it can be concluded that Palue society in Palue culture contained elements of ethnomatematics that can be integrated in the mathematics learning in elementary school.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with etnomatematics nuance by using traditional games to improve students problem solving ability. The population in this study was the fourth grade students of SDN Mandirancan, Kebasen, Banyumas Academic Year 2017/2018. Sampling was done by using simple random sampling. Data collection technique applied was problem solving ability tests, observation and documentation. This study was analyzed by using t-test. The results show that (1) the ability of problem solving using PBL models with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games has reached the classical completeness 75%, (2) the average scores of problem solving ability by using the model of PBL with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games was better than the average scores of problem solving ability by using the model of expository, (3) the average gap of problem solving ability by using the model of PBL with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games was better than the average gap of problem solving ability by using expository model. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that the model problem based learning with etnomatematics nuanced by using traditional games is effective in improving students' problem solving ability.

Abstract

This study has the purpose of analyzing the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model based on ethnomathematics with Selotigo batik motifs in improving students' problem-solving abilities. This study was true experimental design research. The sampling technique was done using random cluster sampling. The sample in this study was Public Elementary School Sidorejo Lor 07 Salatiga as an experimental class and Public Elementary School Sidorejo Lor 03 Salatiga as a control class with a total of 74 students. The data collection was done through observation, documentation, and test method. The data analysis was done using One-Sample t-test, Proportion Test, and Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that the PBL model based on ethnomathematics was effective in improving students' problem-solving abilities. This result was indicated by the average score of students' problem-solving ability in the learning using PBL model based on ethnomathematics which was above the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) with KKM of problem-solving abilities of 75, the proportion of students completeness of problem-solving abilities in PBL model based on ethnomathematics was above 75% of the classical completeness, the average problem-solving ability of students in the PBL learning model based on ethnomathematics is better than the average problem-solving ability of students in the PBL model. Based on the result, it can be concluded that problem-solving in a PBL model based on ethnomathematics is effective in improving the problem-solving ability of students.

Abstract

The 4Cs in 21st century skills consist of critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration. The skills are very importance in solving problem should be owned by students to face current century global advancement. This research aims to describe problem solving skill pattern of students based on cognitive style after being taught by Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with Ethnomathematics nuances. This mixed method research used sequential explanatory design. The qualitative research part was conducted first and then continued by quantitative research part. The qualitative research used technic and source triangulation. This study consisted of 23 subjects. They were selected based cognitive style test by using Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) at fifth grade of Public Primary School Citimun I, Sumedang. Techniques of collecting data were observation, test, interview, and documentation. Reflective and Impulsive students could understand problems, design solution, and promote problem solving although they were incapable of accurately rechecking. Slow-Inaccurate students could understand problems but they were incapable to plan solution and solve problem. They also could not do rechecking accurately. It could be concluded that Reflective - Impulsive cognitive style typed students had more dominant in problem solving skill than Slow-Inaccurate cognitive typed students. Thus, PBL model with ethomathematics nuances can improve students' problem solving skills.

Abstract

The Problem Submission and Solving (JUCAMA) learning model is a learning model that is oriented towards problem submission and solving to improve students' creative thinking skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of ethnomathematics JUCAMA learning models and to determine the influence of the mathematical habits of mind on the creative thinking ability of students. The research method used for this research is a mixed-method using a sequential explanatory design. The population in this study were students of class VIII in Junior High School of State at Sub-District Donggo Regency of Bima which is not a One-stop Middle School and the sample is class VIII of Junior High School of State 3 Donggo. Class VIII/A is the control class and class VIII/B is the experimental class. The results was showed that the average creative thinking ability of students taught by using etnomathematics JUCAMA learning model more higher than the average thinking ability of students taught by problem-based learning. Students who are taught with the ethnomathematical JUCAMA learning model experience an increase in creative thinking skills in the medium category, while students who are taught with problem-solving learning models experience an increase in creative thinking skills in the low category based on the N-gain category. In improving the creative thinking ability, the ethnomathematics JUCAMA learning models were applied to the experimental class more effective than problem-solving learning models were applied to the control class. There is the influence of the mathematical habits of mind on the creative thinking ability of students.

Abstract

Students' mathematical critical thinking skills are still low, this is because the learning is still monotonous. Therefore, it is necessary to implement student-based learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the local culture-based Project Based Learning model in improving the critical thinking skills of class VIII students. This study uses a quantitative research approach. This design involved two groups of subjects, the experimental class was given treatment in the form of giving a Project Based Learning model with ethnomathematical nuances based on local wisdom, while the control class was taught using conventional learning. The sample in this study were 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The results of this study are the effectiveness of learning using the PjBL model with an ethnomathematical nuance based on local culture in improving the critical thinking skills of eighth grade students. Value of Sig. in the experimental class, the results of 0.05 it means that H0 is rejected, in other words that the average posttest result of students' critical thinking skills classically has reached the minimum criteria completeness so that it can be said to be effective. The mean of the experimental class showed a result of 82.50, while the control class showed a result of 71.09. This shows that the average critical thinking ability of students in the experimental class is higher than the average critical thinking ability of students in the control class. The conclusion of this research is that the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Model Based on Local Culture is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of eighth grade students.
