Abstract

This research seeks to evaluate the impact of the brain-based learning approach on science education. The method applied is a systematic literature review using the PRISMA model, utilizing various databases such as Google Scholar through the publish or perish application, Garuda, and scopus. A systematic literature review is used to conclude and provide recommendations that are relevant to issues related to the impact of brain-based learning models in science education from 2020-2024. The analysis demonstrated that the application of the BBL model had a positive effect on students' concept understanding and critical thinking skills, especially in Biology and Physics. Interest in BBL had decreased in 2022-2023 but increased again in 2023. This model is predominantly applied in senior high schools, although it is also effective in elementary schools to improve students' memory. Geographically, BBL is more optimal in Western and Central Indonesia, while Eastern regions face challenges related to facilities and teacher training. The BBL method can enhance the quality of science learning but requires more attention to teacher training and the provision of facilities.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential of social media in biology learning by examining the digital competence of Generation Z through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The review follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) framework to ensure methodological rigor and transparency. A total of 18 relevant documents published in Indonesia between 2015 and May 2025 were identified and analyzed. The inclusion criteria focused on studies addressing social media, biology learning, digital competence, and Generation Z. The findings reveal that platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp are widely utilized in learning activities, supporting concept visualization, collaboration, and creative engagement. Most of the reviewed studies were conducted at secondary and higher education levels, reflecting the broad adoption of social media in formal education. Generation Z demonstrates strong digital competence in communication, collaboration, and content creation. However, challenges remain in critical information evaluation, ethical digital practices, and the pedagogical integration of social media. This review highlights the dual role of social media as both an opportunity and a challenge in digital-era education. Strengthening Generation Z’s digital competence is essential to fully harness the educational potential of social media while addressing issues of information credibility and responsible use. This study contributes to mapping research trends on digital competence and provides insights for educators and policymakers seeking to optimize social media use in 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Preparing future physics teachers requires instructional models that intentionally integrate critical pedagogy, collaborative learning, and socioscientific inquiry to cultivate essential twenty-first-century competencies. However, existing approaches rarely connect these dimensions within a coherent instructional framework. This study developed and evaluated the Critical–Collaborative Learning Model (CCLM) to foster creative thinking and collaboration among prospective physics teachers. A research and development approach adapted from the Borg and Gall model was implemented through needs analysis, model design, expert validation, formative evaluation, and field testing. Data were collected using validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, creative-thinking assessments, and collaboration-skill questionnaires. The findings indicate that CCLM demonstrated high validity and practicality and produced stronger creative thinking and collaboration outcomes than conventional instruction. The model encouraged critical literacy, collaborative dialogue, creative production, and action-oriented learning through engagement with socioscientific issues, enabling students to generate more original ideas while strengthening collaborative problem-solving and shared responsibility. This study contributes a validated instructional framework that systematically integrates critical pedagogy and collaborative inquiry to support the development of higher-order competencies in physics teacher education.

Abstract

Differentiated instruction has been a focus among educators since the emergence of the Merdeka Curriculum. This approach is recognized as a fundamental strategy in facilitating student-centered learning by aligning instructional methods with their diverse learning needs. However, teachers in schools with limited resources still encounter challenges in effectively implementing differential learning. Therefore, this community empowerment initiative aims to enhancing the teaching community in school mover to design and implement differential learning effectively. The Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach serves as the guiding framework for this empowerment, facilitating teacher training in the design, implementation, and evaluation of differential learning strategies. This initiative is manifested through various collaborative activities, including workshops, group discussions, share best practices, and collective reflection within the school's teaching community. The result of this empowerment initiative demonstrate that collaborative approach can significantly enhance teacher competence in developing and implementing differentiated instruction. Therefore, this empowerment model holds the potential for broader adoption within other educational communities, thereby extending its positive impact on enhancing the quality of learning processes.

Abstract

Teacher performance is critical to educational success, particularly in Indonesia’s science education landscape. This study explores the mediating role of professional commitment in the relationship between teacher contextual factors—job satisfaction, pedagogical beliefs, and perceived support—and science teacher performance. Using social exchange theory (SET) as the theoretical foundation, data were collected from 288 science teachers across Indonesia and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) via SmartPLS 4.0. The results reveal that pedagogical beliefs strongly predict professional commitment (β=0.583, p0.001), while job satisfaction significantly influences both professional commitment (β=0.280, p=0.006) and teacher performance (β=0.283, p=0.002). Professional commitment itself has a strong effect on performance (β=0.536, p0.001) and mediates the indirect effects of job satisfaction (β=0.150, p=0.008) and pedagogical beliefs (β=0.312, p0.001) on teacher performance. Conversely, perceived support weak direct and indirect effects. These findings underscore the importance of fostering professional commitment through improved job satisfaction and culturally grounded pedagogical development. Policy implications include reinforcing institutional support systems, especially in underserved regions, to boost science teacher effectiveness and national science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competitiveness.
