Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Socio-Based Problem-Based Learning (PBL-Socio) model in enhancing the creative thinking skills of prospective physics teachers. Rooted in constructivist pedagogy, the PBL-Socio model integrates real-world social issues into the learning process to foster deeper engagement and higher-order thinking. A quasi-experimental design was conducted involving 53 undergraduate students from a physics education program in Indonesia, divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group engaged in PBL-Socio activities, while the control group followed conventional instruction. Students’ creative thinking abilities—measured through fluency, flexibility, and originality—were assessed using an open-ended instrument and analyzed with the Rasch measurement model. Results showed a notable improvement in the experimental group’s creative thinking performance, with a mean gain of +1.63 logits compared to +1.03 in the control group. Rasch analysis indicated more consistent performance, reduced score variability, and stronger alignment with high-difficulty items among students exposed to the PBL-Socio model. Further analysis through Differential Item Functioning (DIF) revealed meaningful differences across learning styles and educational backgrounds, emphasizing the importance of inclusive instructional design. The findings suggest that integrating socially relevant content into physics instruction can significantly enhance both the quality and equity of creative thinking development in teacher education. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting socially contextualized learning as a powerful driver of 21st-century competencies in STEM education.

Abstract

Differentiated instruction has been a focus among educators since the emergence of the Merdeka Curriculum. This approach is recognized as a fundamental strategy in facilitating student-centered learning by aligning instructional methods with their diverse learning needs. However, teachers in schools with limited resources still encounter challenges in effectively implementing differential learning. Therefore, this community empowerment initiative aims to enhancing the teaching community in school mover to design and implement differential learning effectively. The Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach serves as the guiding framework for this empowerment, facilitating teacher training in the design, implementation, and evaluation of differential learning strategies. This initiative is manifested through various collaborative activities, including workshops, group discussions, share best practices, and collective reflection within the school's teaching community. The result of this empowerment initiative demonstrate that collaborative approach can significantly enhance teacher competence in developing and implementing differentiated instruction. Therefore, this empowerment model holds the potential for broader adoption within other educational communities, thereby extending its positive impact on enhancing the quality of learning processes.

Abstract

Alternative conceptions become obstacles in physics. However, it is difficult to find instruments that can identify students' alternative conceptions, especially in gases kinetic theory (DIGaKiT). The purpose of this research was to development of diagnostic instrument of DIGaKiT in identifying students’ alternative conceptions by Rasch analysis model. The research method used the defining, designing, developing, and disseminating (4D). The samples are 31 students (12 male students and 19 female students, their ages were typically 16 years old) at one of the senior high schools at Belitung. Rasch analysis was used to identify the validity, reliability, and distribution of students' alternative conceptions. The result is that the level of validity and reliability of the instrument is in a good category. Meanwhile, alternative conceptions of the kinetic theory of gases can be identified in all questions, and the questions with the highest alternative conceptions are questions with code Q11 (77%) and the lowest are questions with codes Q1, Q5, and Q6 (4%). Therefore, teachers must design learning processes that can reduce students’ alternative conceptions of the kinetic theory of gases material.

Abstract

Higher education institutions have come under fire for their perceived restrictive tactics and lack of diversity among students and faculty. This article dives into the possible synergy between anthropology and critical consciousness, drawing inspiration from Paulo Freire's seminal contributions. The major goal is to create a revolutionary transition in higher education toward a more inclusive educational paradigm. Furthermore, this study investigates the influence of political landscapes on educational curriculum, emphasizing the need for a revolutionary pedagogical framework that fosters critical consciousness in both students and instructors. The prospect of developing a more equitable and inclusive learning environment within higher education becomes reachable via the harmonic integration of different pedagogical techniques, one that is sensitive to the diverse requirements of all learners. This attempt, however, is not without difficulties, such as opposition to change and the political terrain's intricacies. Professional development opportunities and coordinated efforts between educators, administrators, and policymakers are required for successful implementation. To summarize, the priority of social responsibility in higher education is evident, and adopting transformational pedagogy is critical for tackling the multiple issues inherent in the twenty-first century.
