Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of ethno-science approach through the making of bamboo lemang in improving students' understanding of the concept of thermal energy material at SMPN 17 South Bengkulu. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experiment method and a Non-Equivalent Control Group design. Creswell states that a pseudo-experiment is an experimental situation in which the researcher assigns, but not randomly, participants to a group because the researcher cannot artificially create a group for the experiment. Data were collected through concept comprehension tests and observations. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in the understanding of students who used the ethno-science approach compared to conventional methods. Based on the results of the normality test with Shapiro-Wilk, it showed a significance value of 0.129 (experimental class) and 0.067 (control class), which means that the data is normally distributed. Based on the results of the homogeneity test with Levene's Test resulting in a significance value of 0.611, indicating that the data variance between the experimental and control groups was homogeneous. Based on the results of the hypothesis test using Independent Samples t-Test, it showed a t-value (-5.42) with p = 0.000, which means that there was a significant difference between the two groups. The average understanding of students in the experimental class was 83.07, while in the control class it was 66.13.These results show that the ethno-science approach through the making of bamboo lemang contributes positively to improving the understanding of the concept of thermal energy. Keywords: Ethno-science, Bamboo Lemang and Heat energy

Abstract

This study aims to examine the branding strategy applied by MA Nurul Jadid in increasing the interest of the public, especially parents of prospective students, in choosing a school. In the context of increasingly competitive education, it is essential for educational institutions, especially madrasas, to have a strong image that reflects the quality and values they carry. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving in-depth interviews with school managers, teachers, and student parents to collect data on public perception of school branding. The study's findings show that an effective branding strategy at MA Nurul Jadid involves implementing a standardized managerial system, developing superior programs based on religion, and using social media as the primary communication channel. In addition, the Tahfidz Qur'an program and the school's slogan reflect a strong vision and mission and significantly strengthen the school's image. The results of this study provide new insights into how madrassas can build positive branding by integrating religious values into their strategies. These findings also provide important implications for madrasah managers and other religious education institutions to design a more integrated branding strategy focusing on education quality and values relevant to the community.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and test the effectiveness of time management training in improving the quality of student learning at SMP Negeri 1 Proppo. The primary focus of the research is how time management techniques such as prioritization, scheduling, execution, and evaluation can help students manage their time more effectively and improve their academic performance. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type, where data is collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. Data analysis was done using thematic analysis methods to identify the emerging main patterns and themes. The results show that time management training has a significant positive impact on students' ability to manage time and improve the quality of their learning. Students participating in the training feel more organized, focused, and productive in completing their tasks. These findings are in line with the theory of self-regulated learning and time management, which emphasizes the importance of self-regulation and efficient time allocation in achieving high academic achievement. This study implies that time management training programs should be integrated into school curricula to help students develop essential time management skills from an early age.

Abstract

Assessment quality is a crucial element in ensuring that science education achieves its intended learning objectives, particularly at the junior secondary level where foundational concepts are introduced. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of teacher-constructed mid-term examination items in Grade VII science by focusing on item difficulty, discrimination index, and overall reliability. Using a quantitative descriptive design, data were collected from 68 student responses to 25 test items, comprising 20 multiple-choice and 5 essay questions, and analyzed through classical test theory. The findings showed that 28% of items were classified as easy, 52% as moderate, and 20% as difficult, with 60% demonstrating acceptable or good discrimination power and a KR-20 reliability coefficient of 0.72, indicating adequate internal consistency. While the results suggest that the test achieved a balanced level of difficulty and acceptable reliability, the presence of items with poor discrimination and extreme difficulty levels reveals weaknesses in test construction. The discussion underscores that systematic item analysis is essential to refine teacher-made assessments and align them with both curriculum standards and international benchmarks. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on teacher-constructed science tests in junior secondary schools in Indonesia, a context that remains underexplored in the literature. The implications of this research point to the need for enhanced teacher assessment literacy, institutional support, and continuous evaluation practices to improve the validity and reliability of classroom-based examinations.

Abstract

The recent value integration of science and religion has become a topic of research in Indonesia, especially in developing critical-thinking skills and students’ personal religious belief. The purpose of this research is to see the results of the implementation of the DBUS (Discovery-Based Unity of Sciences) learning model analyzed in detail at each step of the learning. This research uses a qualitative approach with interactive analysis of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research sample was 101 students and two biology lecturers from UIN Walisongo Semarang, 94 students and two biology lecturers from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The results of the analysis of this research show that, by implementing the DBUS learning model, students learn constructively, meaningfully, and can apply each syntax in the learning process to develop critical-thinking skills and students’ personal religious beliefs. The DBUS learning model becomes a way to integrate the value of science and religion in developing students' abilities to learn constructively and meaningfully so they can develop critical-thinking skills and personal religious beliefs (PRB).
