Abstract

Naturally, the human body has tolerance to free radical attacks. However, the natural antioxidant ability will decrease when exposure to free radicals from within and outside the body occurs intensively. Antioxidants play potential preventive role to protect the body from damage associated with oxidative stress by free radicals. One of the potential marine resources used as an antioxidant is macroalgae. Turbinaria is widely distributed in tropical waters of Indonesia, including West Kalimantan. This genus produces secondary metabolites with several biological activities. This genus abundantly grows in Kabung Island. However, it has not been used by the local community, even tends to be considered as a weed that disturbs others marine biota. This study aimed to evaluate the potential antioxidant activity of tropical brown macroalgae Turbinaria ethanol extract from Kabung Island, West Kalimantan. antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenger method with UV-vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that the ethanolic extract had a high of potential antioxidant activity which IC50 was 87.31 mg/L and it was classified into strong antioxidant potential.

Abstract

Lemukutan Island in West Kalimantan has marine natural resources with a high level of diversity such as seagrass, coral reefs, macroalgae, and gastropods. Gastropods are one of the largest Mollusc phylum groups that are abundant in the waters of Lemukutan Island. Several types of gastropods have been reported to have high economic value and high nutritional content as well as macro minerals such as Na, Ca, K, F, and P. Therefore, these biota are more widely used as food. This study aims to analyze the proximate and mineral content of gastropods (Lambis and Monetaria) from the waters of Lemukutan Island. The moisture content and ash content of the sample were determined by the gravimetric method. The results of the study found that macro mineral content was determined in Lambis and Monetaria by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The protein content in both types of gastropods is quite high. Monetaria has a higher protein content (63.69%) than Lambis (50.06%). However, the fat content in Lambis is 1.88% and Monetaria is 1.14%. The highest mineral content of these two types of gastropods is iron (Fe). Lambis and Monetaria have Fe content of 0.2762 mg/kg and 0.1818 mg/kg, respectively.

Abstract

Xestospongia sp. is a barrel sponge belonging to the phylum porifera of the class Demospongia. This sponge abundant in coral reefs ecosystem. It is a filter feeder where the filtering of nutrients available in the environment occurs in the pores along the body. Various microorganisms in the seawater were exposed to sponges, so that they can produce various biological activities. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of crude protein from sponge Xestospongia sp from Spermonde waters of Sulawesi Island. The protein of the sponge was extracted using ammonium sulfate. Then, the protein was determined by the Lowry method in each fraction. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity was carried out by the DPPH method. The crude protein extracts in various fractions produced intermediate antioxidant activity produced from each fraction. They are fraction 1 (0-30%) of 81.31 ppm, fraction 2 (30-60%) was 180.22 ppm, and fraction 3 (60–90%) was 93.97 ppm, while crude protein was 128.33 ppm.The ascorbic acid as a positive control has antioxidant 2.98 ppm.

Abstract

Abstrak: Banyaknya ditemukan kasus efek samping dari penggunaan obat-obatan berbahan kimia telah mengakibatkan terjadinya kekhawatiran dan meningkatnya kewaspadaan masyarakat, yang secara langsung menurunkan minat beli dan konsumsi bagi masyarakat. Semboyan Back to Nature telah melahirkan banyak gagasan kreatif dan aksi langsung di masyarakat, salah satunya adalah dengan mengimplementasikan Back to Nature melalui sosialisasi penanaman tanaman obat keluarga (TOGA) dengan memanfaatkan lahan halaman rumah yang kosong. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengedukasi masyarakat Desa Mekar Baru melalui sosialisasi dan aksi langsung di lokasai dalam memanfaatkan halaman rumah atau ruang kosong di teras rumah sebagai taman obat keluarga, dengan jenis tumbuhan obat yang bervariasi dan dapat dibudidayakan dengan cara sederhana, seperti kunyit, sirih, sereh, jahe putih dan jahe merah, kencur, kumis kucing dan beberapa jenis tanaman lain yang dapat digunakan segera saat dibutuhkan. Kegiatan penelitian ini bersifat pemberdayaan masyarakat, dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif terkait dengan kemampuan masyarakat desa Mekar Baru dalam menerapkan materi sosialisasi yang disampaikan oleh tim pelaksana kegiatan. Monitoring dan evaluasi selama berlangsungnya kegiatan ini menunjukkan sikap yang positif dari semua peserta pelatihan, ditunjukkan dengan adanya beberapa tanaman obat dalam pot yang dibuat oleh warga sekitar, serta saling memotivasi dan membantu dalam implementasi kegiatan tersebut. Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 berdampak secara langsung terhadap penurunan daya beli masyarakat, serta krisis pemenuhan kebutuhan pangan khususnya sumber protein. Perlu adanya usaha nyata untuk meningkatkan keterampilan masyarakat, salah satunya dengan budidaya Ikan Lele sistem bioflok. Ikan Lele merupakan komoditas budidaya air tawar bernilai ekonomis tinggi, mengandung gizi lengkap, harga murah, serta banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk melakukan sosialisasi sistem budidaya yang praktis, ramah lingkungan, efisien, dan berkelanjutan. Selain itu, kegiatan pelatihan diharapkan dapat memberikan keterampilan bagi masyarakat dalam berwirausaha. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 19 September 2021. Mitra kegiatan yaitu warga Kompleks Perumahan Afifah Hilya Regency, Desa Mekar Baru, Kecamatan Sungai Raya, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi, dan praktek. Sebelum kegiatan, sebanyak 10% masyarakat telah mengetahui tentang budidaya sistem bioflok. Selain itu, semua peserta (100%) juga belum mengetahui tentang probiotik, komposisi, dan cara pembuatannya. Pada evaluasi yang dilakukan di akhir kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa 100% peserta telah memahami metode budidaya dengan sistem bioflok, serta pemanfaatan probiotik untuk meningkatkan imunitas tubuh ikan terhadap kemungkinan serangan penyakit. Training on the Cultivation of Catfish (Clarias sp.) with the Biofloc System for the Community of Mekar Baru Kubu Raya The global pandemic Covid-19 has a direct impact on the decline in public purchasing power, as well as the crisis in fulfillment of food needs, especially protein sources. There needs to be a real effort to improve community skills, one of which is by cultivating catfish with a biofloc system. Catfish is a freshwater aquaculture commodity with high economic value, complete nutrition, low price, and much consumed by the community. This activity aimed to disseminate practical, eco-friendly, efficient and sustainable cultivation systems. In addition, training activities were expected to provide skills for the community in entrepreneurship. This community service activity was carried out on 19th September 2021. The partners are residents of the Perumahan Afifah Hilya Regency, Mekar Baru Village, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. Activities were carried out using lecture, discussion, and practice methods. Prior to the activity, only as much as 10% of the community had known biofloc cultivation system. In addition, all participants (100%) did not comprehend as well about probiotics, their composition, and how to make them. The evaluation was carried out at the end of the activity, showed that 100% of the participants had understood the cultivation method with the biofloc system, as well as the use of probiotics to increase the fish immunity against possible disease attacks.

Abstract

Desa Bakau is located in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan which has the potential for mangrove forests with an area of ± 305 Ha. Ecologically, mangrove forests have various roles, one of them is as a habitat for various types of aquatic biota, including gastropods. Several gastropods have important economic value for the community as food and medicine. The local community catches and consumes the mangrove gastropods. As a food ingredient, gastropods have a high nutritional content and essential macro minerals. Gastropods can be used as an alternative source of animal protein at an affordable price. This study aimed to determine the nutritional value of the gastropod Cassidula from the mangrove area of Desa Bakau, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. Quantitatively, nutrient content such as protein, carbohydrates, fat, moisture, and ash content were determined according to the AOAC (2005) standard method, whereas macro minerals content (Na, K, Mg, Ca, and P) was carried out according to the AOAC method (2016) using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The result showed that Cassidula had a protein content (57.02%) with the highest value compared to other types of nutrients. In addition, Cassidula also contained an essential macro mineral, such as calcium (37.0006 mg/kg) with the highest value followed by sodium (21.7364 mg/kg), respectively. The results showed that Cassidula can be used as an alternative food ingredient for human.

Abstract

The coastal area of Kabung Island is an area of Karimunting Village, Bengkayang Regency, which has a population of around 300 families, whose main livelihood is fishing. Water conditions are very risky due to bad weather, such as strong waves, making it impossible to go to sea, causing new activities for people to plant gardens by utilizing makeshift land and plantation commodities along the hills on the island. Apart from coconuts and cloves, nutmeg is a plantation commodity that is widely available in this region. The training for the processing of syrup from the flesh of the nutmeg for the people of Kabung Island is to improve the skills and welfare of the people of Kabung Island who have previously carried out simple processing of nutmeg by drying the seeds and making candied nutmeg. The training is carried out by direct processing of nutmeg in front of the Kabung island community who are also participants in this activity. This activity was attended by 50 participants consisting of 15 men and 35 women. Based on the questionnaire before the activity started, it showed that 40% had already known and read about the processing of nutmeg syrup, while 30% of the participants had made simple syrup preparations from nutmeg pulp. Then the evaluation conducted after the activity showed that 80% of the participants were able to make good nutmeg syrup, including packaging and labeling of the resulting products.

Abstract

Kawasan Batu Burung Singkawang merupakan perairan yang berhadapan langsung dengan laut Natuna yang mempunyai perbedaan kondisi geografis dan merupakan wilayah dengan topografi yang cukup datar dengan kemiringan antara 0-8% pada ketinggian antara 0-12 meter di atas permukaan laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis distribusi parameter tinggi, frekuensi dan energi gelombang yang terjadi serta menganalisis perubahan garis pantai yang terjadi di perairan Batu Burung Singkawang. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2018 di peraian Batu Burung Singkawang, Kalimantan Barat. Data gelombang, arus dan pasang surut diperoleh berdasarkan observasi lapangan selama 15 hari. Selanjutnya data citra satelit yang digunakan adalah Citra Landsat 8 dengan interval dari tahun 2008-2017 dan untuk data kecepatan angin diperoleh dari European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) dengan interval waktu yang sama. Hasil analisis menunjukkan tinggi gelombang signifikan (Hs) diperoleh nilai ketinggian maksimal hingga 0.13 meter dengan frekuensi gelombang antara 0.12 – 0.71 Hz dan energi gelombang yang didapatkan sebesar 21.87 Joule/m.  Besarnya energi gelombang yang dihasilkan mengakibatkan perubahan garis pantai di lokasi penelitian ini. Hasil ini dibuktikan dengan analisis berdasarkan data citra satelit bahwa perubahan garis pantai pada interval waktu  2008-2017 yang dibagi menjadi dua grid area (grid A dan B) dimana terjadi pergeseran garis pantai ke arah darat berkisar antara 3.8-16.4 meter dan akresi dengan jarak garis pantai ke arah laut berkisar antara 1-39.8 meter sepanjang 2.03 km garis pantai (grid A).  Kemudian pergeseran garis pantai ke arah darat berkisar antara 2.6-36.6 meter dan akresi dengan jarak garis pantai ke arah laut berkisar antara 3.2-18 meter sepanjang 2.12 km garis pantai (grid B).

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengkaji varibilitas tinggi dan periode gelombang laut signifikan di Selat Karimata. Metode yang digunakan adalah Sverdrup Munck Bretschneider (SMB) dengan variasi empat musim, yaitu musim barat, musim peralihan I, musim timur, dan musim peralihan II. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tinggi dan periode gelombang laut signifikan berkisar 0,79 s.d 1,49 meter dan 4,43 s.d 6,25 sekon pada musim barat ; 0,34 s.d 0,73 meter dan 2,49 s.d 3,94 sekon pada musim peralihan I ; 0,50 s.d 1,42 meter dan 3,13 s.d 6,09 sekon untuk musim timur ; sedangkan musim peralihan II adalah 0,51 s.d 1,05 meter dan 3,16 s.d 5,17 sekon. Tinggi dan periode gelombang laut signifikan tertinggi saat musim barat.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang identifikasi sebaran batuan beku dibukit Koci Desa Sempalai Kabupaten Sambas Kalimantan Barat dengan menggunakan metode geolistrik resistivitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan nilai resistivitas batuan dan mengetahui pola sebaran serta jenis batuan yang ada di lokasi penelitian. Penelitian dilakukan dengan membuat 6 buah lintasan geolistrik yang dimana 5 lintasan berada di puncak bukit dan 1 lintasan di lembah bukit. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data dari keenam lintasan menunjukkan bahwa jenis batuan yang mendominasi pada daerah penelitian adalah pasir, batu pasir, dan batuan beku andesit. Batuan beku andesit tersebar pada puncak bukit dengan lintasan 1,2,3,4, dan 6.
