Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is an integral part of higher education curriculum in Indonesia, aimed at implementing the principles of the 1945 Constitution and related education laws. KKN involves students living and working in rural areas to assist in community development, aligning with the goals of higher education. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KKN activities have been adapted for online implementation, with limited participation from specific university programs. Despite challenges, KKN remains a valuable experience for students, contributing to their personal and academic growth. Three distinct KKN activities were carried out: English Weekly Meeting, a webinar on sports during the pandemic, and a COVID-19 health equipment donation program. Each activity faced its own set of challenges, including student participation and logistical issues. In conclusion, KKN is a vital component of higher education in Indonesia, fostering community engagement and practical learning. To improve future KKN experiences, clearer communication between universities and students, stronger cooperation with partner schools, and optimized program execution are recommended.

Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving academic and technological environment, English learners are expected not only to master language skills but also to think critically and communicate effectively. However, many EFL instructional practices still focus heavily on memorization, leaving students underprepared for real-world communication demands. To address this gap, alternative teaching strategies that promote both reasoning and speaking performance are needed. This study investigates the impact of structured debate instruction on the speaking and critical thinking skills of EFL undergraduate students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. Using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design, 26 fourth-semester English education students participated in a five-meeting intervention. Their performances were assessed using rubrics adapted from the IELTS Speaking Band Descriptors and the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal framework. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, paired samples t-tests. The results showed significant improvement in both speaking and critical thinking skills (p .001). Among the rubric indicators, inference and fluency showed the highest post-test scores, while deduction and grammatical accuracy showed the lowest. These findings suggest that debate can be an effective pedagogical tool for enhancing spontaneous reasoning and communicative clarity in EFL settings, while also highlighting areas that may require additional support.

Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes are diseases that are prevalent among the people of Kadiluwih regency, with a high history of stroke and heart attack cases. The main risk factors include unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, obesity and genetic factors. Low awareness of early detection exacerbates this condition. To overcome these problems, this community service program (PKM) aims to increase public awareness and knowledge about noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and encourage the implementation of healthy lifestyles to reduce the number of complications. The activities carried out include family care, counseling on non- communicable diseases, DAGUSIBU (Get, Use, Store, Dispose of medicines properly) education, and education and cultivation of family medicinal plants (TOGA). The methods used included counseling, mentoring, and health checks. Initially, many participants did not understand the risk factors for hypertension and diabetes and how to prevent them, but after the education, the majority of participants showed a better understanding and were able to re-explain the information provided. With this positive response, it is hoped that the program can have a lasting impact on increasing health awareness and promoting healthy living in the Kadiluwih district.

Abstract

Pembedahan merupakan tindakan medis invasif yang dapat menimbulkan stres fisiologis dan psikologis, khususnya kecemasan pada pasien sebelum operasi (pra operasi). Kecemasan ini dapat memengaruhi kondisi kardiovaskular, memperburuk proses penyembuhan, serta meningkatkan risiko komplikasi selama dan setelah tindakan operasi. Manajemen ansietas yang efektif sangat dibutuhkan untuk mengurangi dampak negatif tersebut. Salah satu teknik non farmakologis yang digunakan adalah relaksasi Benson, yang dapat menurunkan aktivitas sistem saraf simpatik, menurunkan konsumsi oksigen jantung, dan memberikan efek relaksasi yang signifikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode literature review untuk mengkaji efektivitas terapi relaksasi Benson dalam mengelola kecemasan pasien pra operasi. Pencarian jurnal dilakukan pada database Google Scholar, ResearchGate, dan PubMed dengan kriteria inklusi jurnal berbahasa Indonesia dan Inggris, terbit dalam lima tahun terakhir (2021–2025), dan relevan dengan topik. Dari 28 jurnal yang ditemukan, 10 jurnal dipilih untuk dianalisis lebih mendalam. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa relaksasi Benson secara signifikan dapat mengurangi tingkat ansietas pada pasien pra operasi, memberikan manfaat praktis sebagai intervensi keperawatan yang mudah diterapkan. Dengan demikian, relaksasi Benson layak dijadikan pilihan dalam manajemen kecemasan pra operasi guna meningkatkan kualitas perawatan pasien dan hasil tindakan medis.

Abstract

Elementary education serves as a crucial foundation in shaping cognitive abilities, comprehension, and the capacity to express ideas both in written and spoken forms. Among the fundamental competencies that need to be instilled early on are reading and writing skills, which are integral components of literacy. This training program is designed to enhance teachers' competencies in developing students' literacy skills through a participatory training approach and intensive mentoring. The training is conducted in the form of a three-day interactive workshop, covering effective reading strategies, creative writing techniques, and the use of both digital and conventional literacy media. The program also emphasizes the importance of fostering a literate and collaborative learning environment, involving teachers, students, and parents in literacy-based learning activities. Success is measured by increased student participation in reading and writing activities, the availability of contextual supplementary reading materials, and the establishment of a simple yet sustainable literacy culture in the classroom. Through this initiative, the goal is to create a strong foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking among young learners.

Abstract

Humans are dynamic creatures who continue to follow developments over time. This development also has a big impact on changes in habits and has an impact on the health of everyone, which needs special attention in this era of globalization. One of the treatments for kidney failure patients is kidney function replacement therapy, namely haemodialysis. Haemodialysis therapy is a high technology to replace the function of the kidneys in removing metabolic waste (air, sodium, potassium, hydrogen, urea, creatinine, uric acid and other substances) through a semi-permeable membrane as a separator for blood and dialysate fluid in an artificial kidney (dialyzer). where the processes of diffusion, osmosis, and ultrafiltration occur. In this study, a hollow fiber type dialyzer was used which consisting of three main components: the shell (which directs dialysate flow), the porous membrane, and the tube (which carries blood). In general, this research will be carried out theoretically by developing a mathematical model of mass transfer in hollow fiber membranes in the haemodialysis process to study the distribution of urea and creatinine concentrations in the tube, membrane, and shell axial and radial section, the effect of pore area of membrane on urea and creatinine clearance, and the influence of dialysate flowrate on urea and creatinine clearance. The mathematical modeling successfully illustrates the distribution of urea and creatinine concentrations within the hollow fiber membrane both axially and radially, with a concentration decrease from blood to dialysate, influenced by diffusion and convection mechanisms. Simulation results indicate that increasing dialysate flowrate enhances haemodialysis efficiency, but its effect diminishes after reaching a certain threshold. Meanwhile, increasing the membrane surface area from 1.3 m² to 1.8 m² results in only a slight reduction in the urea concentration from 16.67 mol/m³ to 16.62 mol/m³ and creatinine from 8.85 mol/m³ to 8.83 mol/m³, demonstrating that membrane surface area has a smaller impact.

Abstract

Damar Kurung, a traditional lantern art from Gresik Regency, East Java, is a cultural symbol that is full of local wisdom values. This study aims to examine the cultural meaning, social role, and preservation efforts of Damar Kurung in Gresik society. Using a qualitative approach, this study involved interviews with artists, craftsmen, and community leaders, as well as direct observation of local cultural activities. The results of the study indicate that Damar Kurung is not only a work of art, but also a medium for conveying moral messages, history, and the collective identity of the community. This study examines Damar Kurung, a traditional lantern art from Gresik Regency, which has a deep meaning as a symbol of local wisdom. The purpose of the study is to explore the history, philosophical meaning, and relevance of Damar Kurung in the context of modern culture and its preservation efforts. The methodology used is a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with local artists, direct observation of art exhibitions, and analysis of related literature. The results of the study indicate that Damar Kurung not only functions as a decorative element, but also as a medium of social expression that reflects the life of the Gresik community, togetherness, and traditional values. Despite the challenges of decreasing interest of the younger generation and the development of the times, preservation efforts with digital innovation and collaboration between communities, artists, and the government have shown promising results. These findings emphasize the importance of preserving Damar Kurung as a cultural heritage that has the potential to strengthen local identity and introduce Gresik's local wisdom to a wider audience

Abstract

Penelitian tersebut bermaksud guna menganalisa kreativitas pegawai yang dipengaruhi atas empowering leadership, organizational culture, creativity process engagement, psychological empowerment di Badan Pusat Statistik Se-Provinsi Jawa Timur. Apakah seorang pemimpin atas memberdayakan kepemimpinan, budaya organisasi, keterlibatan proses kreatif dapat menstimulus adanya kreativitas pegawai untuk menumbuhkan perfrma organisasi. Penelitiannya memakai pendekatan kuantitatif melalui tekhnik survei, melibatkan pegawai Badan Pusat Statistik di Provinsi Jawa Timur sebagai responden. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan Analisa jalur guna menguji tautan langsung serta tidak langsung diantara variable tersebut. Temuan penelitian memastikan bahwasanya pemberdayaan kepemimpinan serta tradisi organisasi mempunyai dampak baik yang signifikan atas kreativitas pegawai.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) perbedaan yang signifikan antara model kooperatif tipe concept sentence, model kooperatif tipe think-pair-share, dan model tradisional dalam pembelajaran menulis deskripsi peserta didik kelas VII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Sleman (2) manakah yang lebih efektif antara model kooperatif tipe concept sentence, model kooperatif tipe think-pair-share, dan model tradisional dalam pembelajaran menulis deskripsi peserta didik kelas VII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Sleman. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen semu dengan desain Randomized Control-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP N 3 Gamping, SMP N 2 Godean, dan SMP N 2 Gamping.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan penggunaan model kooperatif tipe concept sentence, model kooperatif tipe think-pair-share, dan model tradisional dalam pembelajaran menulis deskripsi dengan nilai F =140,578 dan sig (p) < 0,05. Selanjutnya, model kooperatif tipe think-pair-share paling efektif dalam pembelajaran menulis deskripsi daripada model kooperatif tipe concept sentence dan model tradisional.Kata Kunci: keefektifan, concept sentence, think-pair-share, deskripsi THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE COOPERATIVE MODELS OF THE CONCEPT SENTENCE TYPE AND THE THINK-PAIR-SHARE TYPE IN THE LEARNING OF THE DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ABSTRACTThis study aims to investigate (1) significant difference between cooperative model type concept sentence, cooperative model type think-pair-share, and traditional model for the learning of the descriptive writing among Grade VII students at junior high schools (JHSs) in Sleman Regency (2) which one is the most effective among the cooperative model of the concept sentence type, that of the think-pair-share type, and the traditional model for the learning of the descriptive writing among Grade VII students at junior high schools (JHSs) in Sleman Regency. This was an experimental study employing the randomized control-group pretest-posttest design. This research was conducted in SMP N 3 Gamping, SMP N 2 Godean, and SMP N 2 Gamping.The results of the study were as follows  there was a difference among the application of the cooperative model of the concept sentence type, that of the think-pair-share type, and the traditional model in the learning of the descriptive writing with F = 140.578 and a significance value (p) < 0.05. Furthermore, the cooperative model of the think-pair-share was the most effective for the learning of the descriptive writing in comparison with the cooperative model of the concept sentence type and the traditional model.Keywords: effectiveness, concept sentence, think-pair-share, descriptive

Abstract

Snake envenomation is classified as a medical emergency that can result in significant tissue necrosis and potentially fatal outcomes. The Sembalun Bumbung region, situated in a highland or mountainous area and surrounded by dense forest, is considered a high-risk zone for snakebite incidents. The local population, particularly in Sembalun Bumbung, demonstrates limited knowledge regarding appropriate first aid measures for snakebite cases, thereby necessitating a public health intervention aimed at increasing community awareness, with a specific focus on children. a health education outreach was conducted in a single session at MTs NW Gunung Pangsor, involving 50 participants. Educational content was delivered by subject matter expert through a powerpoint presentation, supplemented by a live demonstration using a real snake. The session lasted approximately 45 minutes and was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment. To assess the participants comprehension, an oral quiz was administered to 10 individuals selected at random. All participants provided accurate and appropriate responses. Consequently, the educational intervention was deemed effective in improving participants knowledge regarding the identification of venomous and non venomous sankes, as well as evidence based strategies for the prevention and initial management of snakebite envenomation
