Abstract

The use of a rotary dryer in the coffee bean drying process offers advantages in heating homogeneity and increased contact between the material and the drying medium. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the rotary dryer operating temperature on the drying characteristics of coffee beans in terms of changes in mass, moisture content, and drying rate. Experimental testing was conducted using four temperature levels, namely 40 °C, 50 °C, 60 °C, and 70 °C. The drying process lasted for 360 minutes with data collection intervals every 30 minutes to monitor the dynamics of moisture content reduction as a function of time. The results showed that increasing the rotary dryer operating temperature significantly accelerated the process of reducing the mass and moisture content of coffee beans. At a temperature of 70 °C, the rate of moisture reduction occurred the fastest compared to other temperature variations, while at a temperature of 40 °C the process was slower and tended to be stable. The drying rate showed a maximum value in the initial stage of drying, then decreased gradually as the moisture content in the material decreased. This phenomenon indicates a transition in the mass transfer mechanism from the dominance of free water evaporation to a slower internal moisture diffusion. Overall, temperature variations in rotary dryers significantly impact the drying dynamics of coffee beans. Determining the correct operating temperature is crucial for achieving optimal process efficiency while minimizing potential changes in material quality during drying.

Abstract

Community service program (PKM) aimed at raising awareness of the role of sprayer technology among the Sinar Harapan Farmers’ Group in Setanggor Village, Central Lombok Regency, has been successfully implemented. This PKM activity aims to improve the community’s understanding and ability to apply sprayer technology. The PKM was implemented in four stages: activity preparation, including identification and inventory; implementation of the PKM through outreach and practical training; and finally, evaluation and program sustainability. The results of this PKM indicate that the community is able to understand and apply sprayer technology to improve the efficiency of the rice spraying process for farmers. The results of the pre-test and post-test also showed a significant improvement, indicating that the partners—the Sinar Harapan farmer group in Setanggor Village, Central Lombok Regency—understand and are able to implement rice sprayer technology to achieve food self-sufficiency.

Abstract

Kelurahan Getap, Kecamatan Sandubaya, Kodya Mataram, terkenal sebagai sentra perajin logam/pandai besi. Produk yang dihasilkan berupat alat-alat dapur dan pertanian. Untuk mendukung kegiatan usaha tersebut Pemerintah Kota Mataram pada bulan September tahun 2023 telah meresmikan Rumah Industri Logam. Tujuan pendirian Rumah Industri Logam, untuk meningkatkan produksi perajin sekaligus memperluas pangsa pasar. Walaupun demikian keberadaannya belum bisa memperbaiki kualitas produk alat-alat dapur dan pertanian. Ketajamannya masih rendah dan mudah tumpul.Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat memecahkan permasalahan tersebut dengan metode penyuluhan dan mengedukasi langsung kepada perajin logam yang tergabung dalam Rumah Industri Logam. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat adalah dengan penyuluhan dan praktek langsung tentang cara pengerasan permukaan baja karbon rendah dengan teknologi pack carburizng, dan evaluasi. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi hasil kegiatan masyarakat khalayak sasaran (perajin logam/pandai besi) merasa puas karena masalah kualitas produk berupa alat pertanian teratasi, dengan cara mengaplikasikan teknologi pack carburizing, dengan media karburasi arang tempurung kelapa dan energizer serbuk tulang ayam. Peningkatan kualitas produk meningkatkan omset penjualan sehingga bisa meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat khlayak sasaran. Kata kunci: perajin logam, pack carburizing, media karburasi

Abstract

Leadership in political mobilisation under asymmetrical conditions is determined by informational conditions. Existing research has focused on organisational power, networking and digital possibilities but less on conditions of information-poor leadership. To fill this gap, the research reconceptualises leadership as information-based and links historical and contemporary studies on resistance. In this paper, we use a qualitative interpretive approach and secondary historical data as a foundation for studying Supriyadi in the PETA Blitar rebellion. It demonstrates that when there is a lack of information, leadership is built on amiable selectivity, segmentation and secrecy to create networks that are fragmented yet trust-based. However, when there is too much information there is a transformation in leadership into managing public perceptions, content creation and getting used to living in an environment where everything is algorithm-driven. However, while these differences vary one thing remains constant: leadership is ultimately about control of information in hierarchical structures. This paper offers: reaffiliation of leadership with information practices; visualising leadership as a condition to build networks through control of information; and an intersection of historical and digital insights on resistance. It offers a theory of leadership in varying informational contexts.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of oil type on exhaust gas temperature and fuel consumption in a 125cc 4-stroke motorcycle. Three kinds of SAE 10W-40 oil were used: mineral, semi-synthetic, and full synthetic. Tests were conducted at idle with varying rpm and while cruising at varying speeds. Temperature was measured using a thermo gun, while fuel consumption was measured using a burette. Results showed that full synthetic oil produced the most stable temperature and lowest fuel consumption, while mineral oil demonstrated the highest temperature and consumption, especially at high rpm. This efficiency is attributed to the chemical characteristics and thermal stability of the full synthetic oil. This study provides a novel contribution by testing a classic air-cooled motorcycle under static and dynamic conditions, thus better reflecting real-world use.

Abstract

Internal combustion engines remain the primary power source in transportation by converting fossil fuel energy into mechanical energy. This study examines the effect of piston dome height variations (1 mm, 3 mm, and 5 mm) on the performance of a 4-stroke 87.70 cc engine. A quantitative method was used with a rope brake dynamometer to measure torque, adequate power, fuel consumption, and SFCe, effective at engine speeds ranging from 2000 to 5000 rpm. The highest torque and power were recorded at 4000 rpm, the highest fuel consumption at 5000 rpm, and the highest SFCe at 2000 rpm for all dome height variations. As piston dome height increases, combustion chamber volume decreases, leading to lower compression ratios and reduced combustion efficiency. Therefore, piston design should be aligned with the intended focus on either efficiency or performance.

Abstract

Aktivitas pemindahan toolbox secara manual merupakan salah satu pekerjaan yang berpotensi menimbulkan risiko gangguan muskuloskeletal apabila dilakukan dengan teknik pengangkatan yang tidak ergonomis. Di Bengkel Mobil Listrik Teknik Mesin Universitas Mataram, toolbox yang sebelumnya berada di lantai dipindahkan ke rak kerja sebagai bagian dari penataan fasilitas laboratorium. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memberikan pendampingan kepada mahasiswa dalam menerapkan teknik pemindahan beban yang aman dan ergonomis selama proses pengangkatan toolbox. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi identifikasi risiko kerja, sosialisasi prinsip manual material handling, demonstrasi teknik pengangkatan yang benar, pembagian tugas pengangkatan secara berkelompok, serta pendampingan selama proses pemindahan toolbox ke rak kerja. Teknik yang diterapkan meliputi menjaga posisi punggung tetap netral, menekuk lutut saat mengangkat, memegang beban secara seimbang, mengangkat menggunakan kekuatan otot tungkai, serta melakukan koordinasi gerakan antaranggota tim selama proses pengangkatan dan penempatan toolbox pada rak. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik pengangkatan ergonomis mampu memperbaiki postur kerja mahasiswa, meningkatkan koordinasi selama proses pemindahan, serta mengurangi potensi cedera akibat pengangkatan manual. Selain itu, toolbox berhasil dipindahkan ke rak kerja dengan aman sehingga memudahkan akses terhadap peralatan dan mendukung penataan bengkel yang lebih ergonomis. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa edukasi mengenai teknik manual material handling merupakan langkah sederhana namun efektif dalam meningkatkan keselamatan dan budaya kerja ergonomis di lingkungan laboratorium.
