Abstract

Background: Indonesia's high prevalence of active smoking among young adults, despite WHO recommendations, underscores the need for Smoke-Free Area (SFA) in educational institutions to promote healthier environments. Objective: This investigation aimed to evaluate adherence to Smoke-Free Area (SFA) regulations across three Islamic universities in Indonesia and analyze the associated tobacco use behaviours among students and faculty members. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design, conducting structured interviews with 7.040 participants from Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and Universitas Islam Negeri Wali Songo Semarang. The research focuses on the dissemination of information about the dangers of smoking, designated smoking areas, and cigarette butts. The study used a structured questionnaire and JASP version 19 software for data analysis, including spatial analysis with QGIS. Results: Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara has the lowest overall compliance with regulations, while Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah and Universitas Islam Negeri Wali Songo show moderate compliance. Health Studies has the lowest adherence, particularly in "Signage." Education Studies leads in implementing smoking prevention measures, while Social Studies effectively disseminates information about smoking dangers. This data provides insights into smoking behavior and prevalence. Conclusion: The Smoke-Free Area (SFA) implementation and adherence varied among three Islamic universities in Indonesia, with Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara showing the lowest compliance rates, while Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah and Universitas Islam Negeri Wali Songo showed moderate to high adherence. Abstract

Abstract

the role of Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) in Hamlet III Sei Glugur Village in supporting community health programs, especially for mothers and children. Posyandu provides various activities such as immunizations, health education, and monitoring children's growth and development, which facilitates community access to basic health services. Even though there is enthusiasm and positive benefits felt by the community, especially young mothers, the main challenge faced is the lack of public awareness. This research recommends improving facilities, cadre training, and support from the government and community to increase Posyandu participation and effectiveness.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, especially among vulnerable groups such as toddlers and the elderly. Low public knowledge about ARI prevention is a risk factor contributing to the high morbidity rate. This study aims to determine the effect of education using pocket books on increasing public knowledge about ARI in Pangkalan Dodek Baru Village, Batu Bara Regency. The study used a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach on 58 respondents selected using an accidental sampling technique. The research instrument was a validated closed-ended questionnaire, and data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, 63.8% of respondents had good knowledge, 20.6% had sufficient knowledge, and 15.6% had insufficient knowledge. After the intervention, all respondents (100%) had good knowledge. The average pre-test score was 7.66, increasing to 9.88 in the post-test, with the Wilcoxon test yielding a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that education using pocket books has a significant impact on increasing public knowledge about ARI. This simple educational medium can be used as an alternative promotional and preventive strategy in efforts to control ARI in the community.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains a public health challenge in Indonesia, including in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. The Community Service Program (KKN) of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) collaborated with Posyandu cadres in Tambun Sungkean Village to prevent stunting through a participatory education program. Implementation methods included anthropometric measurements, providing nutritious food made from local ingredients, and counseling on parenting and balanced nutrition for mothers of toddlers. The results of the activity showed that optimizing the role of Posyandu not only improved monitoring of child growth and development but also strengthened community awareness of the importance of nutrition and parenting. Education based on nutritious cooking demonstrations and the use of local foods was able to change the perception of mothers of toddlers that healthy food does not have to be expensive. Furthermore, the nutrition awareness community movement succeeded in increasing maternal participation in Posyandu activities and routine counseling. Thus, the collaboration between KKN students and Posyandu cadres has proven effective in fostering collective awareness and serving as a model for community-based interventions that support strategies to accelerate stunting reduction at the village level.

Abstract

Nastar cake is one of the pastries made from wheat flour. Nastar cake is one of the pastries that is small round, shiny surface, made of flour, margarine, refined sugar, egg yolk and filled with pineapple jam. Nastar cake with the addition of red bean flour can be put to good use as a high-protein food. This study aims to determine the effect of adding red bean flour on the test of acceptability (hedonic) and protein content in pineapple cake. This research method uses an experimental method using Complete Randomized Design (RAL), with independent variables, namely formulas with the addition of red bean flour at 0%, 50%, 75%. Variables are tied in the form of color, texture, aroma, and taste of pineapple cake. Hedonic test data was obtained from 25 untrained panelists, namely students of the UINSU Faculty of Public Health. Data analysis for the acceptability test was carried out using the ANOVA method and Duncan's follow-up test. The results of this study found that the acceptability of pineapple cake based on the assessment of color, texture, aroma, and taste that was preferred by panelists was F0 without the addition of red bean flour (control) with an average result of 4.09 (likes), while F1 with an average of 3.23 (less likes), and F2 with an average of 2.78 (dislikes). It is known based on the test results of the highest protein content found in F2 (10.03%), F1 (9.89%), and the lowest F0 (9.72%). As a high-protein food with the addition of red bean flour, it is expected to be an alternative food that is high in protein to prevent stunting.
