Abstract

Workers involved in revitalization projects are vulnerable to reduced productivity due to physically demanding tasks, time constraints, and challenging environmental conditions such as heat, noise, and long hours. These factors can lead to fatigue, stress, metabolic disorders, and poor nutritional intake, which in turn reduce endurance and focus. This study examines the influence of energy intake and nutritional status on work productivity among workers at the Merdeka Square Revitalization Project in Medan City. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used, involving 77 respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate logistic regression tests. After controlling for confounders, both energy intake and nutritional status significantly affected work productivity (p < 0.05). Although excess energy intake was not statistically significant (Exp(B) = 1.319; 95% CI: 0.375–4.642), it still posed a 1.3 times greater risk of reduced productivity compared to adequate intake. In contrast, insufficient energy intake was significant (p = 0.030; Exp(B) = 5.375), with a 5.4 times greater risk of lower productivity. Nutritional status, both overnutrition (p = 0.009; Exp(B) = 10.039) and undernutrition (p = 0.002; Exp(B) = 14.898), significantly affected productivity. The Nagelkerke R² value of 0.354 indicates that these variables explain 35.4% of the variance in work productivity.

Abstract

Abstract

The condition known as stunting, which occurs when a toddler's height is significantly below the World Health Organization's (WHO) median growth standard, is a chronic nutritional issue impacted by a number of variables, including economic circumstances, maternal nutrition, infant health, and insufficient food intake. In Indonesia, where 36.4% of people suffer from stunting, national development priorities include measures to alleviate the issue, particularly under the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2015–2019. Basic needs, education, and health are all included in the government's multi-sectoral strategy. Short-term effects of stunting include higher morbidity and growth deficiencies in children; long-term effects include changes in adult height, obesity risk, reproductive health, and productivity. One of Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to cut stunting by 40% by 2025. At the Gunung Tinggi Community Health Centre, which runs initiatives like offering extra food and nutrition education to prevent stunting, a descriptive qualitative study was carried out. The primary initiatives include regular child development monitoring, supporting hygienic living practices, and providing food supplements to needy populations. Despite the encouraging outcomes of these programs, issues such as budget limitations, parental involvement, and population migration still exist. The program's success depends on the efforts of community health workers, or posyandu cadres, who assist families and enable the early identification of nutritional issues. In order to effectively address Indonesia's stunting epidemic, coordinated initiatives in prevention, education, and resource mobilization are necessary.

Abstract

The Aksata Pangan program aims to reduce food waste by rescuing surplus food from restaurants, hotels, and bakeries that is still safe for consumption, and then distributing it to vulnerable communities in Medan City, such as orphanages and community centers. The program involves collaboration with the private sector and promotes public awareness of the importance of reducing food waste. During implementation, more than 500 kilograms of food were saved and distributed, providing direct benefits to over 10 orphanages and community centers. A social impact evaluation was conducted through observations, interviews, and questionnaires, which showed that the program succeeded in increasing access to food for people in need and raising awareness about more efficient food management. The results of this program indicate that collaboration between the private sector and non-profit organizations has great potential to reduce food waste and improve social welfare. This program is also expected to serve as a model for sustainable, community-based food management in other regions.

Abstract

Hypertension is theoretically influenced by several risk factors. The first risk factors are those that cannot be changed such as age, gender, and genetics. Modifiable risk factors include education, knowledge, behavior, and attitude. This study aims to identify factors that contribute to hypertension in Bangun Sari Village, Datuk Tanah Datar Sub-district. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional analytic design. The study population consisted of all residents of Bangun Sari Village, with a total population of 4,099 people and 1,148 households. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique, with the Lameshow formula, resulting in 94 respondents. Data were collected through observation sheets. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between age, knowledge, behavior, attitude, and occupation with the incidence of hypertension (with a p-value of 0.001 for all variables except education). There was a statistically significant association between employment status and the incidence of hypertension (p-value = 0.002). However, no significant association was found between education level and the incidence of hypertension (p-value = 0.501). Therefore, there is a statistically significant relationship between age, knowledge, behavior, attitude, and occupation with the incidence of hypertension, but there is no significant relationship between education level with the incidence of hypertension in Bangun Sari Village.

Abstract

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, especially among vulnerable groups such as toddlers and the elderly. Low public knowledge about ARI prevention is a risk factor contributing to the high morbidity rate. This study aims to determine the effect of education using pocket books on increasing public knowledge about ARI in Pangkalan Dodek Baru Village, Batu Bara Regency. The study used a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach on 58 respondents selected using an accidental sampling technique. The research instrument was a validated closed-ended questionnaire, and data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, 63.8% of respondents had good knowledge, 20.6% had sufficient knowledge, and 15.6% had insufficient knowledge. After the intervention, all respondents (100%) had good knowledge. The average pre-test score was 7.66, increasing to 9.88 in the post-test, with the Wilcoxon test yielding a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that education using pocket books has a significant impact on increasing public knowledge about ARI. This simple educational medium can be used as an alternative promotional and preventive strategy in efforts to control ARI in the community.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains a public health challenge in Indonesia, including in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. The Community Service Program (KKN) of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) collaborated with Posyandu cadres in Tambun Sungkean Village to prevent stunting through a participatory education program. Implementation methods included anthropometric measurements, providing nutritious food made from local ingredients, and counseling on parenting and balanced nutrition for mothers of toddlers. The results of the activity showed that optimizing the role of Posyandu not only improved monitoring of child growth and development but also strengthened community awareness of the importance of nutrition and parenting. Education based on nutritious cooking demonstrations and the use of local foods was able to change the perception of mothers of toddlers that healthy food does not have to be expensive. Furthermore, the nutrition awareness community movement succeeded in increasing maternal participation in Posyandu activities and routine counseling. Thus, the collaboration between KKN students and Posyandu cadres has proven effective in fostering collective awareness and serving as a model for community-based interventions that support strategies to accelerate stunting reduction at the village level.
