Abstract

This study examines the influence of principal leadership, work motivation, and work discipline on the performance of elementary school teachers in Bulakamba District, Brebes Regency. Using a quantitative approach with an associative correlational design, the research involved 384 teachers with 196 selected as samples through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with multiple linear regression. The results reveal that, partially, principal leadership has the strongest effect on teacher performance with a contribution of 89.6%, followed by work discipline at 43.8% and work motivation at 34.6%. Simultaneously, the three variables contribute 91.1% to teacher performance, indicating a very strong combined effect, while the remaining 8.9% is explained by other factors outside the model. These findings emphasize that teacher performance improvement requires strong leadership, high motivation, and consistent discipline. The novelty of this study lies in integrating these three variables into a single model in the context of elementary schools in rural areas.

Abstract

Low literacy achievement in Indonesia, as reflected in national and international assessments, underscores the urgency of strengthening literacy culture in schools. This study analyzes the role of the school principal in developing literacy culture at SDN Brebes 09, Brebes Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that the principal performs three crucial roles: educator, motivator, and innovator. As an educator, the principal integrates literacy into daily learning, guides teachers, and models literacy practices. As a motivator, the principal fosters a supportive school climate, provides recognition, and conducts regular evaluations of literacy programs. As an innovator, the principal initiates creative programs such as Radigabluk (Rajin Membaca dan Menulis Buku), establishes reading corners, and engages parents in literacy activities. These efforts enhance students’ reading interest, increase writing output, and strengthen teacher and parent involvement. The impact is evident in improved 2022–2023 Education Report scores and the BOS Kinerja award. The study concludes that principal leadership, through educational, motivational, and innovative roles, is pivotal in cultivating sustainable literacy culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

Improving the quality of basic education requires school leadership that can drive teacher professional development through a planned and data-driven learning community. This study aims to describe the principal's strategy in planning the Professional Learning Community (PLC) at SD Negeri Temperak, analyze data-based strategic steps in preparing teacher learning community programs, and identify supporting factors and obstacles that affect its implementation. The approach employed is qualitative, utilizing a case study design through data collection techniques that include in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. These data are then analyzed using thematic analysis methods. The results of the study show that school principals play a central role in utilizing education report card data to identify learning needs, formulate teacher development priorities, and develop PLC agendas collaboratively. Systematic and evidence-based planning has been proven to strengthen teachers' reflective practices, enhance learning effectiveness, and positively impact student learning outcomes, particularly in literacy and numeracy. The main obstacles identified include time constraints, dependence on school principals' leadership, and a lack of optimal continuous evaluation. These findings confirm the importance of adaptive, collaborative, and data-driven leadership in learning as a foundation for teacher professional development in elementary schools.

Abstract

Educational quality is influenced not only by learning outcomes but also by how effectively schools manage financial resources to support instructional processes, including the integration of learning technology. This study examines the management of School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds in supporting technology-based education quality at SDN Dersansari 02, Semarang Regency, Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 11 key informants, including school leaders, teachers, students, and education authorities. Data were analyzed using an interactive qualitative analysis model consisting of data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion verification, supported by source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that effective management of BOS funds guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, effectiveness, and efficiency has significantly contributed to the availability, sustainability, and utilization of learning technologies, such as digital learning media, internet infrastructure, and technology-based assessment tools. Transparent budgeting and accountable reporting strengthened stakeholder trust, while effective and efficient allocation ensured that technology investments directly supported instructional quality and digital assessment implementation. This study contributes to the literature on educational finance and technology integration by demonstrating how structured BOS fund management can serve as a practical financing model for enhancing technology-based learning quality at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study examines the critical role of principals in managing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance teacher professional development and improve the quality of education in elementary schools. This study used a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that principals play a dynamic managerial role in the success of PLCs through comprehensive management functions, including planning, organizing, mobilizing, and controlling (POAC). Specifically, principals conduct in-depth needs analyses based on educational data, strategically plan and organize resources, and actively engage teachers in collaborative activities that foster a culture of participatory learning. Furthermore, regular reflection and data-driven evaluation ensure that the learning community remains aligned with school goals, leading to measurable improvements in teaching practices and student learning outcomes. This study highlights the importance of principal leadership in overcoming challenges such as resistance to change and limited integration of digital platforms. This study contributes to the literature by emphasizing the importance of principals’ managerial skills in effectively managing PLCs to achieve sustainable education reform. Practical implications suggest that principals need to focus on data-driven planning, resource optimization, and ongoing teacher engagement to strengthen PLCs in schools.
