Abstract

In the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in higher education, Intensive Listening courses are expected to prepare students for the demands of academic listening yet teaching practices do not always align with students' actual needs. This study explores the impact of students' listening needs on the development of lecturers' pedagogical competencies in Intensive Listening courses. Using a mixed-methods needs analysis design, data were collected from 120 students in three classes through questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while observation and interview data were analyzed thematically and combined through triangulation. The research findings indicate that students prioritize academic listening as their primary goal, but still struggle with lexical density, high speech rate, accent variation, and note-taking when dealing with long spoken texts involving multiple speakers. Students also strongly prefer multimodal and scaffolded activities, particularly video-based materials supported by transcripts or subtitles and clear guidance at the pre-listening, during-listening, and post-listening stages. These needs point to specific areas where lecturers' pedagogical competencies need to be strengthened, including planning and designing academic listening tasks, implementing process-oriented instruction and strategies, and implementing assessments that truly reflect the demands of academic listening. This study proposes the EPMT (ESP-informed, Process-oriented, Metacognitive, and TPACK-supported) model as a practical framework for aligning Intensive Listening pedagogy with students' needs.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dimotivasi oleh anak usia dini yang mengalami masalah keterlambatan bicara. Keterlambatan bicara pada anak usia dini adalah kondisi di mana kualitas perkembangan bicara anak tidak sesuai atau di bawah usianya, di mana anak mengalami kesulitan dalam mengekspresikan perasaannya dan anak kurang menguasai kosakata. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis penggunaan metode pemecahan masalah guru dalam menangani keterlambatan bicara pada anak usia 5-6 tahun. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 2 guru anak yang mengalami keterlambatan bicara. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dari informan primer menggunakan metode wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan guru kelas subjek. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan menggunakan teknik deskriptif untuk menjelaskan hasil penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterlambatan bicara yang dialami anak usia dini menyebabkan beberapa hambatan, termasuk anak tidak mampu mengungkapkan apa yang mereka rasakan atau apa yang mereka inginkan, anak merasa canggung saat mengobrol dengan teman-teman mereka, dan juga anak cenderung pendiam. Hambatan juga dirasakan oleh lawan bicara anak seperti orang tua, guru atau teman ketika mereka ingin mengajak anak berbicara. Melalui pembelajaran metode pemecahan masalah yang dilakukan oleh guru, anak-anak mampu dan berani berbicara meskipun masih ada beberapa huruf yang belum jelas.

Abstract

The research aimed to determine whether the use of a communicative approach discussion improves students speaking skills The researcher applied a pre experimental method with a one group pretest posttest design The variables of the research were independent and dependent The independent variable was discussion The dependent variable was the students speaking skills The population of this study was the second grade students of MAN Baraka Kab Enrekang in the academic year of 2023 2024 A total of 31 students in one class were decided by using the cluster random sampling technique The data were obtained by administering the speaking test to the XI MIA 4 and analyzed by using SPSS 20 to know about the result of the student s scores The researcher found the results that discussion improves students speaking skills The mean score of the pre test was 25 62 with a standard deviation was 8 56 and the mean score of the post test was 45 34 with a standard deviation was 12 26 So it is concluded that the students of second grade students of MAN Baraka Kab Enrekang showed significant improvement in their speaking skills < p>

Abstract

This research investigates the role of the AI chatbot ChatGPT in grammar assessment and personalized feedback for second grade students at SMKN 10 Makassar It aims to evaluate ChatGPT s accuracy in assessing students grammatical competence the effectiveness of its feedback in enhancing grammar skills and students perceptions of its usefulness as a grammar learning tool Using a mixed method explanatory sequential design quantitative data were collected through a structured questionnaire involving 46 students while qualitative insights were gained through interviews with six purposively selected participants The findings revealed that a majority of students perceived ChatGPT as accurate and consistent in identifying grammatical errors particularly appreciating the clarity and specificity of its feedback Furthermore the data indicated that ChatGPT contributed to improved grammar understanding and motivation especially through personalized explanations and error correction Qualitative responses supported these findings highlighting students increased confidence and engagement in grammar learning While some neutral responses suggested room for refinement in feedback fairness and bias perception the overall results demonstrate ChatGPT s potential as an effective supplementary tool in grammar instruction This research contributes to the growing literature on AI assisted language learning and offers practical implications for integrating technology into grammar teaching at the junior high school level < p>

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of gamification in the GO Expert App for learning English as a foreign language, focusing on students' perceptions and the factors that support and inhibit its use. A qualitative approach was employed, using thematic analysis according to Creswell & Creswell (2023). The participants in this study were five twelfth-grade students from Ganesha Operation, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using the six steps of thematic analysis. The results of this study indicate that students hold a positive perception of gamification in the GO Expert App. Elements such as leaderboards, points, stars, and timed quizzes are considered capable of increasing motivation to learn, fostering a competitive spirit, and encouraging students to be more active in English learning activities. Additionally, students rated learning through this App more engaging and less monotonous than conventional methods at their school. Practice questions with immediate feedback help students understand English material independently and continuously. The study also identified supporting factors such as peer support, teacher guidance, attractive features, ease of use of the App, and immediate feedback, which contribute to behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement in learning. However, there are inhibiting factors, including technical issues, unclear features, cognitive load from long texts, and distractions from other applications on students' mobile devices. Overall, this study concludes that gamification in the GO Expert App plays an important role in enhancing students' motivation, engagement, and understanding in learning English as a foreign language. However, improvements in technical aspects and design are needed to optimize its use.

Abstract

Abstract. This study sought to determine whether students in the English Language Study Program are interested in the lecturer's teaching performance in learning English for Tourism subject for hybrid classroom, as well as the impact of the lecturer's teaching performance on students' interest in learning English for Tourism subject. This study employed a combination of quantitative and qualitative studies In the academic year 2021/2022, the population consisted of students of English Language Education (ELE) study program. There were 260 ELE students as the population.  By addressing purposive sampling, which has some categories namely: the students who were enrolling in English for Tourism subject; the students were eager to participate in this study. There were 52 students involved as the subject.  In order to obtain the data, the researchers utilized the survey questionnaires and semi-structured interview as research tools. Testing the hypotheses provided information on the relationship between lecturer’s teaching performance and students’ interest in learning English for Tourism subject. SPSS version 26 for Windows was utilized by the researcher to handle and analyze the data for this study.  The findings of this study demonstrate that the majority of questionnaire computations result in. According to the findings of the interviews, the majority of students believe that the teacher's teaching performance has an impact on students' interest in learning the English for Tourism’ subject. Abstract

The rapid development of digital platforms has transformed patterns of consumption in modern society, particularly among younger generations. Digital platforms function not only as spaces for information exchange, but also as media for the dissemination of popular culture and intercultural communication that shape consumerist attitudes. This study aims to analyze consumerism as a form of popular culture and as an intercultural communication practice on digital platforms in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis and non-participant digital observation of social media content, promotional materials, and visual narratives circulating on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and e-commerce sites. The findings indicate that digital platforms play a significant role in constructing symbolic consumption, in which products are no longer consumed solely based on their functional value, but also as representations of identity, social status, and lifestyle. Popular culture, reinforced by the role of influencers, social media algorithms, and global cultural flows, encourages consumerist behavior, impulse buying, and the normalization of hedonistic lifestyles. Intercultural communication processes further facilitate the dissemination of global values that negotiate with local cultures, thereby shaping dynamic consumption patterns. This study concludes that consumerist attitudes in digital spaces constitute a socio-cultural phenomenon constructed through media representations, intercultural interactions, and the dynamics of digital capitalism. Therefore, enhancing media literacy and critical awareness is essential to promote more rational and responsible consumption practices.

Abstract

Anak merupakan karunia dan amanah dari Allah swt yang tidak boleh di sia-siakan dan harus disyukuri. Bahkan anak di anggap sebagai harta kekayaan yang paling berharga di bandingkan kekayaan harta benda lainnya karna anak merupakan amanah dari Allah yang senantiasa dijaga dan dilindungi karna dalam diri anak melekat harkat, martabat, dan hak-hak sebagai manusia yang harus di junjung tinggi. Berdasarkan dari permasalahan di atas, rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah: 1) bagaimana dasar pertimbangan hakim dalam memutuskan hak asuh anak dalam kasus perceraian di pengadilan agama sungguminasa kelas 1A kabupaten gowa? 2) bagaimana hakim memastikan keadilan dan kepastian hukum dalam menentukan hak asuh anak di pengadilan agama sungguminasa kelas 1A kabupaten gowa ? Adapun tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pertimbangan hakim dalam memutuskan hak asuh anak dalam kasus perceraian di pengadilan agama agama sungguminasa kelas 1A kabupaten gowa. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif secara sistematis dan akurat di lapangan Penelitian ini digunakan sebab peneliti berusaha untuk mendeskripsikan dan memberikan gambaran secara sistematis dan akurat tentang peran Hakim dalam pertimbangan kasus hadhanah sebab perceraian di Pengadilan Agama sungguminasa kelas 1A Kabupaten Gowa. Dasar Pertimbangan Hakim Dalam Memutuskan Hak Asuh Anak yaitu dengan UUD Perlindungan anak perma No 3 Tahun 2017, memastikan keadilan dan kepastian hukum dalam hak asuh anak yaitu dengan kita melihat kepentingan terbaiknya anak, kita tidak bisa melihat ibu ataupun bapak yang harus kita utamakan adalah kepentingan terbaik anak. Kalau misal anak memang tidak mau, kita tidak boleh paksa. Kalau misalnya ibunya baik kenapa tidak kita tetapkan kepada ibunya apalagi anak yang belum mumayyiz lebih dekat dengan ibunya karna kan ibu itu kurang yang bekerja jadi kesehariannya banyak bersama anak dibanding bapaknya. Dasar Pertimbangan Hakim Dalam Memutuskan Hak Asuh Anak yaitu dengan UUD Perlindungan anak perma No 3 Tahun 2017, memastikan keadilan dan kepastian hukum dalam hak asuh anak yaitu dengan kita melihat kepentingan terbaiknya anak, kita tidak bisa melihat ibu ataupun bapak yang harus kita utamakan adalah kepentingan terbaik anak. Kalau misal anak memang tidak mau, kita tidak boleh paksa. Abstract

This qualitative study aims to explore how ChatGPT influences students’ learning motivation in the context of English language learning. The study is motivated by the increasing integration of artificial intelligence in education, which is believed to enhance students’ engagement and self-directed learning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten sixth-semester students of the English Education Department at Universitas Negeri Makassar, who were selected using purposive sampling. Thematic analysis was applied to identify recurring patterns in students’ perceptions. The findings indicate that ChatGPT has a positive impact on students’ learning motivation through three main aspects: autonomy, competence, and engagement. ChatGPT enhances students’ sense of autonomy by providing flexible access to information, quick responses, and personalized assistance that allow learners to control their own learning pace. It strengthens students’ competence by simplifying difficult materials, offering detailed explanations, and building their confidence in understanding English reading texts. Furthermore, ChatGPT promotes engagement by creating interactive learning experiences and providing enjoyable, low-pressure communication that reduces anxiety and increases participation. Several participants also mentioned that ChatGPT encourages curiosity and inspires them to explore learning materials beyond classroom instruction. However, some students reported a potential drawback, noting that overreliance on ChatGPT may decrease self-initiative in independent study. Overall, the results suggest that ChatGPT functions as an effective virtual learning assistant that supports both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, fosters self-regulated learning, and contributes to students’ enthusiasm for developing English proficiency.
