Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of e-scaffolding in blended learning on pre-service teachers' scientific explanation abilities as well as to find out the patterns of scientific explanation of pre-service teachers who learn by e-scaffolding in blended learning. This study employed mixed-method with concurrent embedded design. Quasi-experimental research design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest control group design was used as a quantitative approach, whereas the learning process and scientific explanation patterns were described in a qualitative approach. The population of this study was 152 elementary school pre-service teachers of a state university at Malang, while the sample was 24 elementary school pre-service teachers in the seventh semester. The sample selection technique in the study was purposive sampling. The instrument used for measuring scientific explanation abilities was problem descriptions. The quantitative data were analyzed using the t-test, while qualitative data were analyzed using descriptive method. The finding of the study indicated that pre-service teachers' scientific explanation improved after learning with e-scaffolding in blended learning. The pre-service teachers were able to explain the relationship between theory and problems very well. The recommendation for future research, it is crucial to investigate the characterization of scientific explanation

Abstract

Operational risk in a tourism village refers to failures or deviations in the execution of tourism activities, which, if left unaddressed, may escalate into reputational risks. This study investigates strategies for mitigating operational risks in Tugu Utara Tourism Village, Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia. Adopting a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through focus group discussions involving 15 key stakeholders, including tourism village managers, representatives from tourism village associations, and officials from the Bogor Regency Culture and Tourism Office. Thematic analysis was employed to identify and interpret patterns, with findings presented through fishbone diagrams and summary tables. Results reveal four core pillars for operational risk mitigation: system risk, human resource risk, internal risk, and infrastructure and supporting facilities risk. These findings contribute to the growing discourse on community-based tourism resilience by offering a contextualized framework for operational risk governance in rural destinations.

Abstract

Innovating higher education teaching models is essential to meet the learning challenges of the 21st century. This research discusses the students' readiness and needs for the development and utilisation of the Problem-Based Flipped Learning (PBFL) model in the Islamic Elementary Education Department (PGMI) at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Using a quantitative descriptive survey method with 216 respondents from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts, the research focused on technological readiness, preference for learning styles, and perception toward PBFL. Findings indicated that the device ownership and preference of learning styles were facial in relation to visual/ self-directed, which suggested the practicality of the PBFL application. There was a moderate positive correlation between the availability of devices and readiness towards PBFL; however, limited access to the internet continues to be an obstacle. The current work adds value by incorporating Islamic principles in the design of PBFL, thereby providing a culturally sensitive framework for Islamic education. Furthermore, implementation options are developed around offline materials, student orientation programs, and institutional policies. These results could serve as a foundation for developing adaptive and creative teacher education programs that focus on educational and religious competencies, ultimately paving the way for the integration of PBFL into the PGMI curriculum in the long term.

Abstract

The teacher certification policy is one of the government’s key strategies to improve national education quality by strengthening the role of teachers as professionals. Certification is regarded as a continuous professional development instrument that not only enhances teacher capacity but also serves as recognition of the teaching profession. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of teacher certification in improving learning quality, by examining whether the policy genuinely contributes to teacher professionalism or merely emphasizes administrative compliance. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through literature review, policy analysis, and limited interviews with teachers and principals. The findings indicate that certification has positive impacts on teacher welfare and formal recognition of the profession, yet it has not significantly contributed to changes in pedagogy or classroom learning quality. Teachers’ motivation tends to be driven by financial incentives rather than professional competence development, while increasing administrative burdens often reduce their focus on teaching. The gap between normative policy objectives and actual practice suggests that certification has not fully functioned as a catalyst for improving learning outcomes. Policy implications highlighted in this study emphasize the need for flexible implementation, including affirmative schemes or special treatment for teachers in disadvantaged regions, to ensure equitable professional development across Indonesia.

Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is hyperglycemia during pregnancy, which can increase oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS). This oxidative stress can adversely affect fetal developmental processes, including body length, ocular development, blood flow, and heart rate. Curcuma longa extract, containing curcumin, has been shown to possess antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. Nanoemulsions have demonstrated efficacy in enhancing the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of herbal compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a nanoemulsion of Curcuma longa extract on body length, ocular apoptosis, blood flow, and heart rate in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos exposed to high glucose concentrations. Zebrafish has many benefits as it has 70% orthologous genes with humans, high fecundity, and rapid embryogenesis. Nanoemulsions were prepared using the self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) technique. Embryos were allocated to five groups: control, 3% glucose, and 3% glucose with 1.25, 2.5, or 5 µg/mL nanoemulsion of Curcuma longa extract. The results showed that a 1.25 µg/mL nanoemulsion of Curcuma longa extract reduced phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) expression, increased body length, and mitigated developmental process disorders by decreasing ocular apoptosis and maintaining blood flow and heart rate in high glucose-induced zebrafish embryos. These findings suggest that a nanoemulsion of Curcuma longa extract may have potential therapeutic applications in managing the adverse effects of hyperglycemia on fetal development in GDM.
