Abstract

This research aims to describe the instillation of nationalism values in ubrug-based learning. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative research. The research results indicate that the ubrug method or role-playing in instilling nationalism can enhance the students' nationalist attitudes. Students not only portray characters in the story being presented but also can extract the values contained in the performing arts, especially those related to nationalism, which is the goal of the learning process using the ubrug method or role-playing. Furthermore, the use of the Sundanese and Javanese Serang local languages continues to endure with the preservation of local wisdom, including folk theater like ubrug. However, the use of the local language also faces obstacles in the staging of ubrug within the school environment because there are students who are not native to Banten. Hence, they need to learn and adapt to the local language used in the ubrug theater performance.

Abstract

Abstract: The Janissary Army was originally a key part of the Ottoman Turkish military and helped conquer parts of Asia and Europe. Over time, however, its members began to work in politics, business, and other areas, losing their military character. Because of this drop in numbers, Sultan Mahmud II disbanded the corps on June 15, 1826. This study seeks to investigate: This research aims to examine the origins, transformation, decline, and dissolution of the Janissary Force, as well as the consequences of its disbandment, through historical research encompassing topic selection, heuristic resource collection, source criticism, chronological interpretation, and historiography. The findings indicate that the Janissary Army, formed through the devshirme system, evolved from a military corps into a powerful socio-political force whose resistance to reform led to Sultan Mahmud II’s decisive dissolution of the corps, marking the beginning of Ottoman modernization. Mahmud II created the Mansur Army, which was trained in the European way. This was a big step toward military reform and centralization.

Abstract

This study evaluates the impact of the Quizizz application on junior high school students' comprehension, highlighting its potential to enhance classroom instruction through innovative and engaging learning strategies. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach was employed, encompassing planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting stages. The study involved 36 eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Batang Gangsal. Data were gathered through observations, tests, and documentation. Qualitative analysis of observational data was conducted using tables and diagrams to track progress, while quantitative analysis compared student performance across two cycles. In Cycle I, the average student score was 62.4, with 38.89% (14 students) achieving scores ≥70. By Cycle II, the average score increased to 74.1, with 88.89% (32 students) meeting or exceeding the benchmark. These results demonstrate significant improvement in students' comprehension of social studies. The findings highlight the effectiveness of Quizizz as a tool for engaging students and enhancing learning outcomes. Its interactive features contributed to increased student motivation and better comprehension of social studies concepts. The Quizizz application proved to be an effective and innovative learning tool, significantly improving student comprehension. Future research should explore its application across diverse subjects and educational levels to assess its broader impact on learning outcomes.

Abstract

Developing students' critical thinking has become an important objective of social studies education, yet classroom instruction often provides limited opportunities for students to engage in inquiry, collaborative reasoning, and evidence-based argumentation. This study explored how structured recitation activities fostered students' critical thinking during social studies learning through a qualitative classroom inquiry. The study involved eight junior high school students and employed classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, students' learning artifacts, and classroom documentation as primary data sources. Data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed four interconnected themes characterizing the development of students' critical thinking: (1) developing collaborative learning engagement, (2) building learning confidence through peer support, (3) developing evidence-based critical thinking, and (4) strengthening independent inquiry through structured recitation activities. Students gradually shifted from passive participation toward active engagement by collaboratively seeking information, discussing ideas, constructing arguments, and defending their conclusions using evidence. These qualitative findings were supported by improvements in students' critical thinking achievement throughout the learning process. The study concludes that structured recitation activities provide meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond improving academic achievement by promoting collaboration, learner autonomy, analytical reasoning, and reflective participation. The findings offer practical implications for social studies teachers seeking to design more student-centered learning environments that effectively foster critical thinking.

Abstract

Character degradation has become a trend as a consequence of massive globalization. The deconstruction of a curriculum oriented towards character building can be achieved by integrating local traditions as a source of contextual learning. This study aims to explore history, analyze character values in the Haul Raden Intan II tradition, and apply them in history lessons. A qualitative case study approach was used to explore the phenomenon of the Haul Raden Intan II tradition in South Lampung. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with three key informants, namely the family of the heir and traditional leaders, religious leaders, and students who are cultural activists, supported by direct observation and documentation. Secondary sources, including scientific articles and supporting books, were used as references. Data analysis used interactive techniques by Miles and Huberman. The research findings show that the haul tradition has become the cultural identity of the people of South Lampung, serving to preserve the exemplary character of Raden Intan II. The Raden Intan II haul tradition's procession embodies values aligned with the Graduate Profile Dimensions, namely faith and devotion to God Almighty, citizenship, collaboration, critical thinking, and independence. The integration of the character values of the Raden Intan II haul tradition into history learning is presented in the material on the Struggle of the Local People Against the Colonizers, which uses a historical inquiry model based on mini-research and edu-vlogs, culminating in an authentic assessment.

Abstract

This study examines the technological innovation of Trans Jogja as a public transportation system that adapts to the dynamics of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The problem addressed in this research is the limited understanding of how digital transformation—such as electronic ticketing, GPS-based fleet monitoring, real-time information services, and smart mobility integration—contributes to improving the efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability of urban transportation. Using a qualitative descriptive method supported by document analysis, observations, and interviews, this study analyzes the operational system and technological features implemented in Trans Jogja. The findings show that technological innovation has enhanced service reliability, reduced transaction barriers, strengthened passenger data management, and supported environmentally sustainable mobility. However, challenges remain, including uneven digital literacy, infrastructure limitations, and inconsistent real-time accuracy. The study concludes that Trans Jogja represents a strategic model of technology-based public transportation capable of supporting smart city development and promoting sustainable urban mobility in Yogyakarta.
