Abstract

Mathematics learning is ideally expected to foster critical and reflective thinking skills, yet international assessments such as PISA indicate that most Indonesian junior high school students remain at a basic competency level. This gap is evident in their difficulty solving problems that require analysis, evaluation, and drawing conclusions, particularly in the topic of relations and functions. This study aimed to analyze and map the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in solving relations and functions problems based on categories of metacognitive ability. A descriptive qualitative approach with instrument triangulation was employed. A total of 31 students completed a metacognitive awareness questionnaire and a critical thinking test, after which six students representing high, medium, and low categories were selected for reflective interviews. Data were thematically analyzed through cross-instrument triangulation. The findings revealed that students’ critical thinking skills did not always align with their perceived metacognitive categories; actual cognitive regulation was more decisive than declarative awareness. These findings emphasize the importance of process-based assessment that integrates tests, questionnaires, and interviews, as well as instructional practices that explicitly foster planning, monitoring, and evaluation strategies. Theoretically, this study strengthens the understanding of the interaction between metacognition and critical thinking, while practically it provides recommendations for teachers and policymakers to design learning and assessment strategies that promote cognitive regulation and address affective factors such as motivation and self-confidence.

Abstract

Early literacy is a fundamental ability that serves as the foundation for children to develop reading skills at subsequent educational stages. However, many young children still experience difficulties in letter recognition, resulting in slow and suboptimal early literacy development. This study aims to analyze, develop, and evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the “Baju Anti Buta Huruf” learning media as an innovative alternative for improving early literacy in early childhood education. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development design. The research subjects consisted of 15 early childhood learners, who also served as the trial participants for the developed media. Data were collected through questionnaires for validation by subject matter experts, media experts, and early childhood teachers. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test to determine differences in early literacy abilities before and after the implementation of the learning media. The results indicate that the “Anti-Illiteracy Shirt” media is feasible and effective in improving early literacy skills, as evidenced by increased student interest, active participation, and improved letter recognition through multisensory activities involving body movement and visual symbol representation. The study concludes that the “Baju Anti Buta Huruf” media is a creative and effective alternative for enhancing early literacy skills in young children and supports teachers in implementing interactive learning strategies. The implications of this study suggest that early literacy instruction is more effective when designed using a multisensory approach that integrates visual, kinesthetic, and direct experiential elements.

Abstract

This community engagement program was conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Probolinggo to develop innovative instructional designs and assessment instruments. The method employed was qualitative-descriptive, utilizing observation note sheets, reflective note sheets, and questionnaire sheets as instruments. The program comprised three main stages: workshops, mentoring, and evaluation. The first stage involved a workshop that covered presentations on innovative learning and the development of assessment instruments. The second stage consisted of mentoring sessions for the development of innovative teaching materials and assessment instruments, conducted through one online and one offline meeting. Evaluation was carried out during the workshop using observation note sheets, mentoring sessions through reflective discussion sheets and questionnaires, and an overall assessment of the community engagement activities through questionnaires. The evaluation results indicated a 92% increase in teachers' understanding of the Merdeka Curriculum, a 77% improvement in their confidence in designing teaching modules, and a 62% increase in their comprehension of assessment types. Additionally, 77% of teachers felt capable of developing teaching modules and assessments, although challenges remained in designing appropriate evaluation instruments. Meanwhile, the use of technology in teaching increased by 54%, yet it remains an area that requires further enhancement. These findings suggest that the mentoring provided had a positive impact on teachers' competency development, particularly in designing innovative instructional strategies. Therefore, further mentoring sessions are needed with a greater focus on strengthening teachers' skills in designing assessments and integrating technology into teaching to support the optimal implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Emotional management is an important aspect of human life because uncontrolled emotions may trigger interpersonal conflict and psychological problems. In Islamic psychology, anger (gadab) is viewed as a natural emotion that must be controlled through spiritual and moral development. This study aims to analyze emotional management in the perspective of Islamic psychology and to identify methods for preventing excessive anger in interpersonal interactions. The research employed a qualitative approach using library research methods. Data were collected from the Qur’an, Hadith, books, and accredited scientific journals related to emotional regulation and Islamic psychology. The findings reveal that emotional management in Islam integrates spiritual, psychological, and moral dimensions through self-control, patience, dhikr, ablution, and interpersonal communication ethics. Emotional regulation contributes positively to psychological well-being, social harmony, and healthier interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, uncontrolled anger may lead to aggression, verbal conflict, and damaged social relationships, including in digital communication. Therefore, Islamic-based emotional management provides an effective approach to maintaining emotional stability and harmonious social interaction in modern life.
