Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between peer social support and subjective well-being in terms of the gender of SMK students in Tanjung Morawa. In this study using an explanatory quantitative approach. A sample of 192 based on random sampling technique. Using two psychological scales, namely the scale of subjective well-being and peer social support. In processing the data used normality test, linearity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between peer social support and students' subjective well-being. The higher the peer social support, the higher the subjective well-being, and vice versa. There is no significant difference in subjective well-being between male and female students. This states that both male and female students have the same level of subjective well-being. It is hoped that the school can improve the subjective well-being of students by increasing the social support of students' peers, through entering the community they want, providing space to talk to friends, holding school vent events and other activities. Students are expected to be able to improve subjective well-being by: getting involved in school sharing events, communicating feelings and emotions in various situations such as feeling pleasant, having positive expectations in the learning process, entering the community they want. Abstract

Based on the researcher’s observations at a private vocational high school in Medan, adolescents who were victims of bullying exhibited low levels of self-esteem. Low self-esteem can exacerbate feelings of anxiety, depression, and social isolation, which are often experienced by bullying victims. Bullying itself refers to any form of oppression or violence intentionally carried out by an individual or a stronger group, with the primary aim of harming others, and is typically conducted repeatedly. This study aims to determine whether group counseling using the assertive training technique is effective in enhancing students’ self-esteem. The research employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental method using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The participants consisted of eight students with low self-esteem, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a self-esteem questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, which yielded a Z-value of -2.524 with a p-value of 0.012. Since the p-value < 0.05, the results indicate a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. It can be concluded that group counseling with the assertive training technique is effective in improving self-esteem among adolescents who are victims of bullying.

Abstract

General Background: Rapid digitalization in the 21st century has transformed human life, but excessive gadget use among adolescents has triggered health issues, reduced academic focus, and weakened social interaction. Specific Background: Observations at MTs Darul Ulum Budi Agung Medan revealed eighth-grade students displaying high levels of gadget addiction, highlighting an urgent need for effective counseling interventions. Knowledge Gap: Although group counseling is known to foster behavioral change, limited evidence exists on the specific efficacy of the Behavior Contract technique for reducing gadget addiction in Islamic junior high school settings. Aims: This study examined the effectiveness of group counseling using the Behavior Contract technique to reduce gadget addiction among students. Results: Using a quasi-experimental Non-Equivalent Control Group Design with 12 purposively sampled students, statistical analysis showed significant reductions in addiction in the experimental group (Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, p = 0.028; Mann-Whitney U Test, p = 0.004), unlike the control group. Novelty: This research introduces a structured Behavior Contract as a written agreement with reinforcement strategies, demonstrating measurable behavioral improvements in a religious school context. Implications: Findings suggest that integrating Behavior Contract-based group counseling into school guidance programs can effectively decrease gadget dependence, enhance discipline, and strengthen students’ learning focus and social interaction. Highlights: Proven effectiveness of Behavior Contract technique in reducing gadget addiction. Significant statistical results confirm measurable behavioral improvement. Practical integration into school counseling to enhance discipline and focus. Keywords: Behavior Contract, Gadget Addiction, Group Counseling, Quasi-Experimental, Student Intervention

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services with systematic desensitization techniques in reducing public speaking anxiety in junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative approach with the quasi-experiment one-group pre-test post-test design method. The participants of this study were grade VIII students of Junior High School in Medan, with a sample of 7 students. The sample was recruited using a purposive sampling technique based on the criteria of students who experienced high speech anxiety. The intervention was carried out through 4 group counseling sessions adjusted to systematic desensitization techniques. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test led to a decrease in the average score from 74.14 to 57.14 with an Asymp significance value. Sig (2-tailed) is 0.018. This proves that group counseling with systematic decentralization techniques can reduce public speaking anxiety in junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counselling with expressive writing therapy in enhancing self-acceptance among junior high school students from broken home families at Madrasah Aliah Al-Jam’iyatul Washliyah Tembung. A pre-experimental design, consisting of a one-group pretest–posttest, was employed, involving eight students selected through purposive sampling based on their low self-acceptance scores. The intervention consisted of four sessions of group counselling, each incorporating expressive writing exercises to explore emotions, reflect on personal experiences, and develop coping strategies. Pretest and posttest results were analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ self-acceptance, with scores increasing from the low category to the high category (Z = -2.670, p = 0.008) and a very large effect size (r = 0.94). The study demonstrates that expressive writing therapy, when incorporated into group counselling, effectively fosters emotional regulation, psychological resilience, and self-esteem in adolescents facing family challenges. Limitations include a small sample size, absence of a control group, short intervention duration, and potential subjectivity in self-assessment. Future research is recommended to incorporate control groups, larger samples, extended interventions, longitudinal follow-ups, and qualitative approaches to deepen understanding of self-acceptance development.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Motivational Interviewing technique in increasing grit among final-year students. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The participants consisted of 8 eighth-semester BKPI-2 students who were selected based on low grit levels and their willingness to participate in group counseling. The data collection instrument used a grit scale that measured two main aspects: perseverance and consistency of interest. The analysis results showed a significant increase in grit scores before and after the intervention, as evidenced by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (sig. value = 0.012 < 0.05). Thus, group counseling services using the Motivational Interviewing technique proved to be effective in enhancing grit among final-year students.
