Abstract

The aims of this study were to: ( 1) find out the substance of local history material in Indonesian history teaching materials used in SMA Surakarta; ( 2) Constructing the development of Indonesian history teaching materials based on local content; and ( 3) Testing the effectiveness of local content-based Indonesian history teaching materials using the Selecting, Organizing and Integrating (SOI) approach in history learning at class XI Surakarta Senior High School in increasing understanding of local history. To achieve these goals in this study used research and development methods or Research and Development (R&D). The R & D method is a research method used to produce certain products, and test the effectiveness of products. The R & D method is considered the most appropriate for this research problem. This research seeks to make products in the form of local content-based history teaching materials, as well as to test the effectiveness of using these teaching materials in learning Indonesian history according to the specified targets and criteria. This research was carried out in 4 stages , namely: (1) Exploration; (2) Model development; ( 3) Model testing; and (4) Dissemination . The results of the study show that : ( 1) The quality of Indonesian history teaching materials in high schools that have been used so far only includes material substance from basic competencies in the national curriculum. The existing teaching materials are based on a grid that has been developed in BSNP which emphasizes national political events, while local history materials have not been accommodated in teaching materials. Based on the KTSP rules, teachers can develop teaching materials according to the potential of their region. ( 2) Development of teaching materials by combining local history in the Surakarta area with existing materials and teaching materials based on the national curriculum starting from: (a) Preliminary study to determine needs; (b) Development of prototypes using the SOI. Local history material is selected from oral sources and artefact sources and integrated with national curriculum material so that teaching materials based on local content are structured; (c) An expert assessment is carried out on prototypes of teaching materials and other products developed including the instruments used to measure the effectiveness of teaching materials; (d) Limited tests and broad tests were carried out on instruments and products with a larger number of schools; and (e) Finalization. ( 3) From the results of the effectiveness test it is known that the use of local content-based history teaching materials can improve students' understanding of history in high school as evidenced by the results of the one-way ANOVA test between the experimental class and the control class . It is hoped that research will contribute to the development of history learning, especially in local history learning through the development of teaching materials. Teachers can use this research product as a reference in developing history teaching materials based on local content.

Abstract

National consciousness is a vital element in shaping the identity and integrity of a nation. Amid the rapid flow of globalization and technological advancements, Generation Z, those born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, faces unique challenges in upholding national values. This article aims to discuss the real challenges of national consciousness faced by Generation Z in the digital era, while also exploring their potential and opportunities to strengthen nationalism through relevant and contextual approaches. The methodology used in this research is a literature review, which involves collecting data and information from various sources, including academic articles and reference books. A descriptive analytical approach is applied to describe and present the gathered data without drawing definitive conclusions. Through both qualitative and quantitative approaches, this paper examines how Generation Z tends to be more open to global culture, yet still demonstrates a strong sense of patriotism, especially when confronted with issues concerning national sovereignty. However, their understanding of history, national ideology, and national symbols remains limited and in need of improvement. Therefore, an adaptive and creative approach is required, particularly through digital platforms and formal education, to instill national values that align with the unique characteristics of this generation.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited understanding and integration of archeological findings, specifically the Srivijaya-period ceramics discovered in the Musi River in Palembang, Indonesia, into historical education. Although these findings hold significant historical importance, their incorporation into the historical education curriculum remains limited, thereby hindering the potential for enriching historical knowledge and fostering local cultural identity. Employing qualitative descriptive approach, this research aims to explore the historical value of Sriwijaya period ceramics from the Musi River and their integration as a source for learning local history in Palembang. Its data was collected through literature study, document analysis, and field observations. The literature study includes historical and archaeological references related to the Sriwijaya Kingdom and ceramics found in the Musi River, and the document analysis entails examining archaeological finds and previous research reports. The data were then analyzed to reveal the historical value of ceramics and their potential as a source of learning the history of Palembang. The identification of Chinese ceramic artifacts from the Sriwijaya era has yielded ceramics from the Tang (7th-9th century AD) and Sung (10th-13th century AD) dynasties. The discovery of these artifacts holds historical significance in the domains of foreign policy, economics, social, and cultural development during the flourishing of Sriwijaya in Palembang, and these can serve as a valuable resource for local history education in schools.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of local cultural awareness of high school students in Karanganyar Regency and explore its relationship with critical thinking skills and intercultural competence. This study employed a quantitative approach with a survey design, collecting data through a 3-point Likert scale-based questionnaire consisting of factual and valence statement items, as well as additional indicators to measure critical thinking and intercultural competence. The research sample consisted of 110 high school students in Karanganyar Regency, selected purposively. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques through percentage categorization and comparison of scores across variables. The results showed that 90% of students were in the medium cultural awareness category, 2.7% in the high category, and 7.3% in the low category. Notably, one student from the high category scored 98.1% for cultural awareness and achieved perfect scores for critical thinking and intercultural competence, while students from the low category only achieved 57.4% in cultural awareness, with critical thinking scores of 61.9% and intercultural competence scores of 72.2%. These findings suggest a tendency that students with high levels of cultural awareness also show better mastery of critical thinking and intercultural skills.
