Abstract

The recent application of palm empty fruit bunches as solid waste directly on soil or as organic fertilizer has enhanced palm farms. Moreover, the co-products of this palm oil mill constitute a dependable metric for assessing mill processing performance, specifically regarding quantity and weight. The quantity of palm empty fruit bunches is usually ascertained through manual counting using a hand counter during processing. The imprecision in calculating palm empty fruit bunches is a limitation of this method, as operators sometimes perform erroneous calculations, overlook quantities, and produce contradictory results for mill management. To address this issue, the sector requires enhanced execution of a monitoring and counting system methodology. The aim of this community service project is to create an empty fruit bunches count station using an IoTbased palm solid waste counting system for use in palm mills. The Ministry of Industry - Politeknik Teknologi Kimia Industri (PTKI) Medan will engage in and oversee the advancement of Industry 4.0 within the industrial sector. The initiative was executed at Tanah Gambus Estate in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. Assistance was provided by a palm mill partner associated with PT. Socfin Indonesia. The implementation of the empty fruit bunches palm oil counting system was conducted efficiently, facilitating optimal operations, real–time online monitoring, uninterrupted functionality exceeding 24 hours daily, swift assessment of the empty fruit bunches volume, immediate identification of traditional counting inaccuracies by operators and management, and its station provides benefits to the palm industry.

Abstract

Perceptions and intentions about breastfeeding, especially among adolescents who represent future parents vary widely. Understanding these views is essential for designing impactful health education programs. This study aimed to assess perceptions and intentions toward breastfeeding among adolescents in Bangladesh. Method used a cross-sectional survey conducted on 132 adolescents aged 14-18 years from urban and rural areas of Bangladesh, who were selected through appropriate sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using a computer program that used descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant relationships were identified between breastfeeding perception and several socio-demographic factors such as class level (t=2.107, p=.037), mother’s education level (t=2.215, p=.029), father’s education level (F=5.189, p=.007), and source of information on breastfeeding (F=4.290, p=.006). Additionally, a positive correlation was found between the number of siblings and breastfeeding perceptions (r=.047, p=.047). On the other hand, no significant relationship between a range of socio-demographic factors and adolescents' intentions regarding breastfeeding in Bangladesh was noticed in this study. P<.05 was used as the significant of this study. It is concluded that educational interventions that address both male and female adolescents, emphasizing the health benefits of breastfeeding and overcoming social barriers, are crucial for promoting a supportive breastfeeding culture.

Abstract

Elderly people are a population group that experiences various physiological changes with age that affect nutritional status. Food consumption and the body's utilization of nutrients can be used to estimate nutritional status. The Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference are two methods used to evaluate the nutritional condition of the elderly. This study purpose to determine the nutritional status based on Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference in the elderly in the Aisyiyah regional leadership of Tasikmalaya City. This research method used a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study was 33 elderly people with an accidental sampling technique. Interviews were conducted with the research subjects to obtain age data, then body weight, height and waist circumference were taken. The analysis used univariate analysis, namely frequency distribution. The results of the study showed that the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, as many as 19 people (58%), while the nutritional status of respondents based on waist circumference was mostly central obesity, as many as 26 people (79%). Although the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, most of the respondents' waist circumference experienced central obesity. This deserves attention, because central obesity can increase the risk factors for metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, therefore it is recommended that waist circumference can be reduced.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a persistent and widespread chronic disease, posing a significant global health challenge and ranking as a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Indonesia, in particular, bears the fourth-highest TB burden globally, especially within the South-East Asia (SEA) region. Alarmingly, TB incidence rates increased by 13% from 2020 to 2021. This research utilized a systematic review methodology, sourcing data from four reputable English databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, OpenAlex, and Dimensions. Both quantitative and qualitative studies published in the last five years (2019-2023) were included. A comprehensive search strategy across the specified databases yielded a total of 1,201 articles. These articles underwent meticulous screening, resulting in six articles being deemed relevant for inclusion in the review. The inclusion criteria focused on studies examining the association between family support and self-care adherence among TB patients. The systematic review identified and analyzed these six pertinent articles, highlighting the pivotal role of family support in influencing TB patients’ adherence to self-care during treatment. Enhanced family support was found to correlate positively with improved adherence levels among TB sufferers. In summary, this literature review underscores the critical importance of family support in enhancing self-care adherence for individuals undergoing tuberculosis treatment. The positive correlation between robust family support and improved adherence levels emphasizes the influential role of the family unit in the overall well-being and treatment outcomes of TB patients.

Abstract

In the business and industrial world, vendor selection is very important because it has a direct impact on the success and efficiency of a company's operations. However, subjective factors and the lack of a systematic approach often affect this process. The purpose of this study is to develop and compare Decision Support Systems (DSS) using three Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods: Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product (WP), and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Data collected from five vendor evaluation criteria are price, product quality, delivery distance, after-sales service, and after-sales service. The results of data processing show that each method produces different vendor rankings, but the SAW method produces the most consistent and easy-to-understand results.

Abstract

The widespread accessibility of the internet via smartphones, laptops, and tablets, along with the convenience of carrying these devices anywhere, has transformed social media from merely a communication tool into a key source of information. Instagram, in particular, focuses on visual aesthetics. Many government agencies in Indonesia now have Instagram accounts to engage with the public, as social media-especially Instagram-is increasingly viewed as a popular platform for information dissemination across various demographic groups. One such agency is the South Sumatra Provincial Food Crop and Horticulture Agriculture, which operates under the Instagram handle @pertaniantph.sumsel. However, engagement with their Instagram community remains low, as seen from the limited number of likes and comments on their posts. To investigate the factors contributing to this issue, a study was conducted using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT 2) model, gathering data from 516 questionnaire respondents who follow the @pertaniantph.sumsel account. The data was analyzed using SmartPLS, revealing that Behavioral Intention significantly impacts Usage Behavior, Effort Expectancy significantly affects Behavioral Intention, Facilitating Conditions influence Usage Behavior, Habit has a significant impact on Behavioral Intention, Hedonic Motivation affects Behavioral Intention, and Social Influence also plays a key role in shaping Behavioral Intention.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence technology has presented new opportunities in improving the quality of education, especially in creating adaptive and personalized learning systems. In higher education, the main challenge in the learning process is the differences in student characteristics such as learning styles, initial level of understanding, and learning motivation. This inequality often makes it difficult for lecturers to deliver material evenly and effectively. This study aims to examine the extent to which the use of AI technology can improve the personalization of student learning and its impact on learning outcomes. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test approach to 62 students involved in AI-based learning systems. The instruments used included learning outcome tests and student perception questionnaires. The results of the study showed a significant increase in learning outcomes after the implementation of AI, with an average post-test score higher than the pre-test. These findings indicate that the application of AI in learning not only improves academic outcomes but also creates a more personalized and adaptive learning experience. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of integrating AI into modern learning systems in order to address the challenges of differentiating student characteristics more effectively.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is entering an aging population phase, in line with the global increase in the number of older adults. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 700 million people are aged 65 years and over worldwide, a figure projected to rise sharply by 2050. In response, the Indonesian government established the Integrated Development Post (Posbindu) to promote early detection, monitoring, and prevention of non-communicable diseases among the elderly. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between family support and elderly participation in Posbindu activities at Urug Public Health Center, Tasikmalaya. Methods: A quantitative descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied. The study population included 189 elderly individuals aged 60 years. A purposive sampling technique was used to recruit 51 respondents. Data were collected using a family support questionnaire and Posbindu attendance records. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: The findings showed that 35 respondents (68.6%) reported receiving family support, while 16 (31.4%) did not. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between family support and elderly participation in Posbindu activities (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Family support is crucial in encouraging elderly participation in Posbindu programs. Strengthening family involvement and health worker initiatives may enhance community-based elderly care and ensure the sustainability of Posbindu activities.
