Abstract

As a research method, case studies are often used in qualitative research, but there is no agreement on research procedures. Case studies have been widely used in psychology, which is not only used in the context of research but it has different meanings. The purpose of this article is to provide a description of the case study as a research method, by providing an overview of the procedures for conducting research which includes when case studies can be used, research design, data collection, data validity, and data analysis. This article seeks to help emerging researchers in the field of psychology with several views from Robert Yin and Robert Stake. This article helps researchers to familiarize themselves with the procedures of qualitative research using case studies. A case study approach that is applied correctly can be a valuable method for conducting research, especially in the field of psychology as a means of developing theory, evaluating programs, developing interventions.

Abstract

Ethnography has gained more popularity in psychological research in recent years. As one of the qualitative traditions, ethnography is best to describe the behaviour of group and group member deeply rooted in its culture and cultural values. This paper presents a literature review on the role, challenges, and opportunities in adopting ethnography in psychological research. Study examples are presented within which, types of ethnographical design to explore new psychological phenomena are discussed. Continous self-reflection for both researchers and participants and researcher’s flexibility of using data collection methods informed by researcher’s positionality and engagement are suggested to further advance rigour in the study findings.

Abstract

This study aims to qualitatively describe the empirical facts between the expectations and the reality of implementing inclusive education in Indonesia for children with special needs. The government's efforts to legitimize inclusive education for children with special needs in regular schools ranging from primary to secondary education have increasingly opened up opportunities for children with special needs to obtain quality educational services. However, good policies are not matched by the readiness of schools that are recommended to provide adequate facilities and support for learning resources. As a result, there are indications that the education of children with special needs in inclusive schools has not received educational services that match their needs. This study uses a library research design and primary and secondary sources to obtain research data. In other words, this library research limits its activities to collecting data through library collection materials (manual and internet) without the need for field research. In practice, this library research activity series relates to collecting library data, reading and taking notes, and processing research materials.

Abstract

Many parents are unaware that their child has dyslexia or commonly known as a learning disability. Dyslexia itself involves difficulty understanding letters and words, resulting in the child being unable to spell or read and write, and because of parental ignorance, the child may need educational and emotional support from teachers and parents. Despite being a special child who needs both of their needs, they are labeled stupid. The purpose of this study is to educate parents that there are many ways that both teachers and parents can teach dyslexic children. This study uses journal literature research methods and descriptive analysis using a variety of methods such as the syllable method, the Glass Analysis method, the multisensory method, and the Fernald method.

Test has put the foundation on the studies of self-advocacy of students with disabilities. Moreover, the studies of self-determination were a root for the studies of self-advocacy. This study also provided insight related to the potential application of self-advocacy, such as in higher education and employment setting. This study will be valuable for researchers and practitioners in special education who are interested to explore this area.

Abstract

E-learning is an advancement in educational technology that helps obtain educational material without the need to meet face to face (distance education). E-learning has existed since 1990 in several countries in various universities and colleges to help educators and students who have long distances from home to university. The concept of e-learning turns into constant learning, where e-learning materials can be centered on vision that combines animation, images and interactive media where visually impaired students cannot follow optimally. The project helps visually impaired teachers and students who have visual impairments. E-learning also requires a lot of support from various parties, namely teachers, students, parents, and the surrounding environment so that e-learning achievements can be realized. Teachers are given training in order to get appropriate learning material in providing material by e-learning, especially for visual impairments. Until the development of e-learning on visual impairment has increased into several models, one of which is the VIVID model which is able to help visual impairments in mathematics education. The positive impact is due to an increase in understanding and learning for visual impairment students who are able to understand several symbols so that they can have the same understanding as a mindful person.
